Great walkthrough of your Coachman Beyond, very informative. We are hoping to take delivery of our Beyond in late January or early February. I was wondering if it was difficult taking of the Coachman name off the van? I also don't care for all the branding and stickers that manufacturers put on their vans. Thanks again

@@chrisaronson4531 it wasn’t hard at all. I used, and recommend, plastic razor blades. You can find them on Amazon pretty cheap. I also used 3M adhesive remover. It comes in a spray can and is $12-$15 on Amazon as well. I didn’t warm the decals, I just used the plastic razors to scrape them off then sprayed enough of the remover to soak the remains glue. The plastic razors made short work of the glue after soaking for a minute. No scratches on the paint or damage to the clear coat.

This was a fantastic video in how you touched on details that get ignored by a salesperson's review. You intimately know your van, as well as the other layouts for comparing/contrasting. Absolutely do! I keep it in the driveway pulled in as far as I can go so that I don't block the sidewalk in front of my house. I'm single/divorced and downsized to a smaller home and I still manage to keep it with me without any issues from my neighbors. One of the upsides to a van versus a full traditional RV.

@@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure Those are exactly the reasons I'm looking only at this style of RV to buy. It should fit in my driveway by a hair, so I may not add a front bumper bar..but I won't have to pay to store it! I also want everything tucked inside, so it's 4-season useable here in the Pacific NW.

Your reasoning for buying an already built van is similar to mine. I'm 63 and getting ready to retire. I don't want to have to wait for a Transit 350HD dually AWD Ecoboost that I order, then wait for an outfitter to configure and build it to my spec. I just as soon buy one from a manufacturer (most likely a Coachmen 22C LI3) then put some additional solar and batteries on it and then probably a Van Compass 2" lift w/ Fox Shocks and new leaf springs. Maybe some bigger/beefier tires and I'm good to go! PS: Love the T-shirt. My sentiments exactly. USGC '77-'83. Semper Paratus.

Thanks and congratulations on the van purchase! The "D" was the runner up for me as well. After over 6 months in the van it is still somewhat of a runner up. I find that the option of laying in bed and having the rear doors open only works well in areas without anyone walking by your van. Otherwise, at least for me, I don't like having my living quarters so open to the public. Anywhere that I have boondocked and could leave the van doors open due to lack of people, I was already outside lounging anyway.

Thank you for your detailed review! Especially mentioning the pricing difference of of sticker and actual price to pay! I have a 23 foot travel trailer at the moment. I plan to go solo travel, thus down sizing and not having to go through the hassle of towing etc. I watch tons of van conversion videos but haven't considered buying an already converted van like this. I didn't realize the sticker/actual purchase price difference. The cost of purchasing a van plus the cost of converting, the months of self labor, and headaches versus hop in and go has got me looking another direction!

Excellent review and walk through. I’ve watched dozens and dozens of Class B reviews and your clear, honest and informative presentation is definitely the best I’ve seen and helped me understand the more technical side somewhat better. I’ve been thinking of a B for many months now and my dilemma is do I rent one first to see if this is really for me or just line up and order one? The rentals I’ve viewed are so expensive that by the time I tried one out I could have used that for a down payment. I would at times be traveling alone but also at times with a friend along. Your set up after listening to you seems ideal for me even though I was iffy about a rear bath. I liked your description of how it works so well for you. Thanks again for this super review.
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words! The cost of the vans, even to rent, versus the size is kind of a put off unless you are pretty sure this is what you want. I have to admit, there are times that I think a nice 27-30 ft Class A seems like a nice option, especially when I am in a RV park, but I would never be able to comfortably park in all the places I do. A trailer would make that even worse. As for the rear bath, it does make it really easy for me to take people with me as the standing area in the shower seems larger. Taking a shower is still tight as in most wet baths, but as a changing room it works really well for travelers that want a private area with a little room. The only way to really open up the other types of Class B wet baths are the install a shower extender which is a shower rod that arches out beyond the shower to create more shoulder room. I like not having to do that. One thing I don't think I mentioned in the video, which I think is addressed in the 2021 models is that I do not have a place to hang my showerhead when I shower. There is no wall mount so you have to lay it in the sink and pick it up to rinse; etc. Overall I still love it!
@farleycross2248
@farleycross2248 3 жыл бұрын
@@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure Thank you for your response. Yes I questioned that there was no place to hang the shower head. Years ago I towed a Coleman pop-up tent trailer. It did have a wet bath and it did have a place to hang the shower head. Hopefully they’ve caught on for the new ones. Happy travels and look forward to watching more of your videos.

This is the one I love however I am going back an forth between the back bathroom and the middle side bathroom. My main reason is that I can just picture myself backing up to a lake or beach and laying in the bed in the back with the back doors open and just relaxing while looking at the scenery. I know there are drawbacks like I need a screen for bugs so the view is not the best. What are your thoughts, pros and cons on both. thanks

Hi and thanks for watching and the question. Honestly I tossed back and forth about the same thing. In reality it was a really close call for me and I may end up tossing back and forth on my next van as well. I like that the RB has a bigger bathroom. There is also better storage for clothes and other things in there. The back doors are not insulated like the rest of the van and often times people put up thick curtains to help keep the heat or cold off them if their bed is in the back. The rest of the van feels more open and you get the benefit of having both sides of the van's windows for natural light through the whole van. The downside is that some people will say, you don't spend that much time in the bathroom anyway so why worry. There is also the opening the back doors to the world. I can say that for the majority of the time I am not opening doors like that or in a place I can. Even at the lake, you will be in the parking lot with a sidewalk behind the van between you and the water with people walking by. It's possible to do like what we see on social media, but my personal experience has been that is not really the case, especially in a van this size and weight. The back doors being opened up and sitting there would come in handy at those turn out vistas where you just want to hang out for a little bit. There were also technical considerations like where the tanks where at; etc.

Fantastic walk through. I am a very detailed person so your video was great. I'm sorry that there is no larger refrigerator/freezer in this unit. I may have missed it but what is the approximate gas millage on the van? Also in the future you might consider doing a video of measurements (height of beds, cabinet widths, width between beds, you name it, etc.) I think that there is a small opening window in that door but no videos that I have seen does not show the van door closed when you're inside.
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 2 жыл бұрын
The gas mileage I get is about 12-13 MPG but I also drive pretty fast on the highway. If I were not such a lead foot I would be getting about 13-14 MPG. This is on the 2019 chassis with a 6-speed transmission and the ecoboost. 2020 and newer chassis are all 10-speed with ecoboost and they have been getting 15-16 MPG when driven nicely. The van sliding door does have a venting window. There is one on both sides of the van in the front and in the back. The one on the sliding door gets opened quite a bit but the one behind my galley sink it often not messed with so that I don't have to fidget with the blinds to get them back down low behind the counter.

@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching! On this model and floor plan, the 2020 22RB the grey tank is the only tank on the outside of the van exposed to weather. It is the only tank with a heater because of that. The other floor plans, with AGM batteries and a generator like mine also have just one tank exposed (pretty there are no exceptions to that). With the lithium battery option the 22C model gets 2 tanks on the outside with one being the freshwater tank. This is due to the space needed for the batteries as they are inside the van (the AGM batteries are on the outside). I hope that helps.

Great job in your review of the Transit Beyond 22RB model. I have watched a lot of different Class B videos and like the other comments below, yours is one of the best. I am so glad you mentioned the MSRP and what the possible real price you could pay. Not sure why the other videos won't say anything about the price. I am grateful you added what the differences in the other Beyond models and what options you can add or not add. My question to you after you have driven and slept in it. What would you add or not add on your next Class B and would it be the same Ford Transit chassis? I am leaning towards buying a new Ford Transit model which is why my question. Thanks for a job well done.
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for the compliments and great question. I'm working on a follow up video to update on how things have been with the van. In short, I am definitely adding the lithium battery. I have heard stories of people not driving enough to charge them without a generator so I'm glad I will have both at that point (over 300ah of lithium AND the genny versus the AGM battery I have now). There are other little things like installing the ability to use a curtain versus window shades in the front would be nice. For the things that are not easily user installed, 1 or 2 have been added to future models of this van like a water recirculatory that helps you not waste water like at home when running the faucet to get the water warm. Stuff like that wastes water. Now that I have used the tanks, I feel like even though the blank tank isn't all that big, having one slightly smaller would not be a big deal for 2 people if that could allow the gray tank to be slightly larger. Nothing huge or major. As for the Transit platform. I absolutely love it still. Oil changes are weird in that Ford states this is a commercial vehicle and only needs oil changes like once every 12 months or 30,000 miles but most people change the oil more often like in a car. The short wheelbase of 148inches is nice for turning but leaves a long "hangover" past the back wheels (typical in vans usually) and I have scrapped the hitch a few times pulling out of certain driveways. Maybe a slightly longer wheelbase would work better. I've seen some Transit HD's with wheelbases in 155"-ish area but they were all converted into large box trucks. The 10 speed transmission on the 2020 frames versus the 2019 and earlier 6-speeds (like mine) seem to get slightly better gas mileage. I absolutely would not trade the Ford's 3.5 liter Ecoboost Turbo engine for anything. The Transit also has an All-Wheel drive option whereas the Sprinter if I am not mistaken still has a 4x4 option. Big difference in how those work in snow and slippery conditions and I would choose All-Wheel drive over the 4x4 any day.

@@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure Thank you for your reply. I have some other questions. You mention adding lithium batteries to your Beyond in your reply. Will you be going back to the RV dealer or the Coachmen factory to have lithium batteries installed? Or would a 3rd party lithium battery dealer be able to install what you need and possibly be less expensive than by the Coachmen factory? And what advise would you give about buying a factory installed lithium battery system, costing $20,000 from Coachmen or installing by a third party after you have driven your Beyond for months?
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
@@larrygee2613 Great questions Larry. The benefits of getting a van built just keep working out for me. Because of the Firefly control system I have as well as the type of inverter I have; etc, I can drop in a lithium battery to replace my AGM. I just need to make an adjustment on my inverter panel to the LiPo function. My AGM is an 8 cell battery and is a common to find in Lithium with the same dimensions, it will just weigh a lot less (Lithium is like less than half the weight). So I am going to do the drop in replacement myself. As for buying the Lithium system versus building and installing after, from what I have learned about these systems and the almost infinite ways you can have them configured, unless you have a very specific need for a certain amount of power/amps/amphours I would go with the factory installed systems or at least a builder that has a "system" for how they install and balance their power system. Hope that helps!

I do love that almost every year the chassis being used is getting more and more of the Ford higher end options as standard. Keep in mind to make sure you ask for the build sheet for any van you are looking at. The chassis can trail the "year" model of the van build by as many as 3 years max, although its usually 2 years on average. So it may not be until the 2023 builds that you get a lot of them built on 2021 chassis. I'm sure there may be ways to go factory direct and make sure what you get is built on the 2021.

Great video. Thanks. Did I understand correctly that the waste storage hose compartment is only 5' long? Is the supplied hose accordion style such that you could get one that was longer than 5' when needed.
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 4 жыл бұрын
You understood correctly. The outside hose storage will fit maybe some 10 foot hoses but not any of the higher end, tough hoses. The tube is only like 27 or 28 inches which makes it a few inches short for a 10 foot Rhino hose. I can fit a 5 foot in the tube though and use that for the black and have a 5 foot extension in the back of the can if I need it. Apparently the company that did my van is now using a longer tube that can even fit the elbow while it’s attached to the hose.

Lol, sorry. I was torn about showing the toilet, it was right below the vanity in the rear bath. I thought that people might not want to have a look at it. It's an RV style toilet. I made sure to get a porcelain bowl as it makes it easier to keep clean (from what I read). Having the full bath also enables the van to be considered like a second home, and since I bought it from a company that converts vans it is also already listed as a Class B for registration and financing so I can write off the interest I pay on my taxes just like a home.

Good review. You sleep length wise not laterally in the 22D when the bed is extended. Much larger frig in the 22D. 2 separate dumps for black and gray tanks in the rear bath model? Bummer.
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 4 жыл бұрын
With vans there are always trade offs. With the rear bath you technically never have to "set up" you beds since they are set up as twins. I will eventually mod them to be able to push together but its nice to not have to set up anything if I want to boondock in a pinch. The rear bath also has a larger black tank and a separate exhaust van and more cabinet storage. I do like the D model and how those bench seats have cup holders, backrests, and are more narrow so that the aisle is wider to walk through.
@hdlowrider5413

@@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure You are absolutely right about the cushions on the D being narrow and uncomfortable. That’s why I did a mod to increase the width and replace the mattresses. Dude, in the 22RB , can you turn the two twin beds into one king bed? What goes in the middle as a cushion if you can? Can you do a video on converting the twin bed into one big bed? Thanks dude!
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Technically you can't push the beds together straight from the factory, they are fixed in place. I do plan on doing a simple mod to add a leaf. There's a cushion company that a lot of vanlife peeps use to make fillers. The idea will be to get 2 fillers that are about half the gap width but are the same length of the couch and use them as lower back rests while traveling and then as fillers when the beds are pushed together. I will definitely post that video.
@sccphilly
@sccphilly 3 жыл бұрын
Really! You can’t put the twin beds together! Lame! How can they forget a design flaw like that? Usually they have supports and cushions for the middle to make one big bed! Now you got to do a DIY to make the twin beds into one big bed? WTF! It’s Like taking a shit and wiping with your hand. I was looking to get the RB but now have to get the 22C. Tell me why they did not design an option to fill the middle to make one big bed???? I don’t fucking get it!
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
@@sccphilly Its more about the preference and then I guess the company making it appeal to many. The setup you're referring to is on the 22D plan but it doesn't have the rear bath and when you push them together you are supposed to sleep on them width ways versus length ways like I do in the 22RB. The couches on the 22D are also not as long as mine which is why you are supposed to sleep width way. The beds on the 22RB are real twins which is they are longer. Also, if the 22RB was set up for the beds to be pushed together people might complain that now there isn't a clear way to the bathroom. In reality most people don't care about that, I would have loved to have the option and just choose whether or not if I want to care about the aisle being blocked, but I knew this when I bought it and decided the little bit of DIY is worth having the larger rear bath.

I was of a similar opinion as you at one point. I was going to do my own build out but most of the DIY or custom build outs that include showers and toilets had super custom, fabricated parts to make it work and usually it was something like a drop down shower curtain in the middle of the van. Anything else custom built with a good bathroom and storage was SUPER expensive (like Outside Van). Now that I am in one that I was worried about the layout, I have found my concerns to be unfounded.

@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Love this question. I have not had any issues that require warranty repair. With that said, I have had some minor issues with the drawers, both the slides and latches. My large wardrobe drawers have come out twice while driving and since the slides have a blue plastic latch holding the drawer on the rail and also from sliding out too much, those blue plastic slide holders break. I just got a set to replace on the one drawer and now the drawer above it came out and snapped the little plastic blue latches. These are different than the black latches that are used to keep the drawer closed. Those break too and on the wardrobe drawers I feel like the 1 they have on each drawer is not enough.

Nicely done walk thru. Thanks for all the detail. As a B van owner (PW), with the typical forward bath, you’ve about convinced me that this rear bath model with twin beds is the ticket. The one question I have is how well that drop down sink works. Do you have to wipe it out prior to closing to prevent water running down the wall? And the drain looks much smaller than a std one, so how well does it drain?
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video and the kind words. The drop down sink does sometimes drain a little slow depending on the slope of the van which is remedied by shimmying the sink up and down a bit. You don't get 100% of the water out of it. You will have maybe 2-3 tablespoons still in there that will drip down the wall where the hinge is. It has never been enough to warrant me wiping it down although I suppose I could wipe the sink ahead of time to avoid any leakage. The shower drains fine but just like in other vans you need to be aware of which way you can allow the van to slope and it still drain well. In regards to size of the drain, it hasn't been an issue with the exception of pet hair. It clogs quickly with just a little of my pups' hair in there but I got a good hand vac for the van and just use that while the shower is dry (before taking a shower) and its not an issue.

Love this van for full-time living but have a few dislikes and several extreme likes. Totally dislike the windows. Would prefer the lexan double pane EU awning windows. Dislike the shades. Dislike monitor panels installed on the backwall of cabinets which limits the use of the cabinets for storage. Dislike the tip down sinks, even the newer ones with center drains. Would like convection oven for baking. Like the layered controls and lighting. The electronics and power packages. Love the DC roof air conditioner and DC television. Love the Ford Transit van gasoline engine with great HP.

Dude, how long can you run roof ac with agm house batteries without engine on, just off agm batteries?
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure
@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. My ProAir unit has a feature that allows it to turn itself "down" as it approaches the temperature on the thermostat. This is supposed to result in lower power consumption as it gets cooler, but it often makes the thing run longer with the fan on and compressor off if you ask me. Because of that, it varies how long you can run it as the outside temp factors in pretty big on that. If I were in 85F weather or so I could run it maybe 3 hours because the unit would not be pulling the most power that it could draw. Anything more than that and it could actually not run since it will need the largest power draw. It varies but at the max power draw it's like 90-100 amps which is more than most AGM batteries can supply constantly especially if you consider that you may have other devices running off the battery as well. There are reports that Coachman is now putting stickers on the D/C powered air conditioning units saying not to run them off an AGM battery because of the power draw.

I see what your saying about the droop in the center of the shade. That would bother me. Shame it has to be there right where you enter the van. But re-securing that now would most likely require the removal of the upper wall cabs. then the wall panel that covers the shade frame. That would be a nightmare with the electronics involved. Solution: Find a calk that matches the darker color of the wall panel and the gap would be less obvious. Only you would ever know it was there. An old saying from the home building business - "That's why God created calk"

That’s always the trade off with vans. You have to travel smaller than class C and others. Some do install boxes on the rear doors to hold things like tabletop gas grills; etc. Winnebago just released the Ekko which is on the Transit frame and they still consider it a Class B but the entire body is not van like (no doors on the back; etc) but it has a gear garage and more water capacity and all that. Could be a good option for you if you want a smaller Class B but with more capacity than a traditional one.

@@TeamLynchSpiritofAdventure I have thought of doing that too, I did upgrade my Class C to lithium. The issue I'm having with the 22RB is where to locate the batteries inside. I'm not aware of any open spots big enough for batteries. Of course you could place them outside where the AGM is, but from the looks of that, it seems a bit unaccessible. My lithium battery on my class C is outside the living area in an open bottom battery compartment. It's a LifeBlue with built in Bluetooth and a internal heater, which allows it to be charged down to -4 F.

I'm going to try and put mine where the current AGM is outside the van now that most of the 8D lithium batteries come with internal heaters. There isn't any venting required for the lithium batteries and they seem to be less maintenance as well. Maybe it won't work out but that's the plan so far.
