WALL-E, short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class, is the last robot left on Earth. He spends his days tidying up the planet, one piece of garbage at a time. But during 700 years, WALL-E has developed a personality, and he's more than a little lonely. Then he spots EVE (Elissa Knight), a sleek and shapely probe sent back to Earth on a scanning mission. Smitten WALL-E embarks on his greatest adventure yet when he follows EVE across the galaxy.

To me, WALL-E is one of those animated movies that was way ahead of its time and is quite underrated in terms of recognition. For an animated movie that was released in 2008, its animations and visuals still hold up to this day. Even the message portrayed throughout the movie is simple, clear, and is something everyone of all ages should be aware of to this day. But what I really love the most about this movie that makes it pretty unique is how limited the script for the main characters is, yet audiences are still able to draw a connection to these characters and care deeply about them. This is one of those movies that makes full and proper use of the *"show, don't tell"* aspects throughout it, and I highly respect the movie for achieving that.

I agree with you 100% on everything else but the underrated part. This movie won the best award an animated film can get so I believe atleast the academy gave it's due recognition to this film. Also it was really everywhere at the time even in my country the Philippines, I played the psp game in my childhood days and I had the dvd it just wasn't as big as other great animation films as it should be.

There are actually a LOT of levels of depth that are subtly present in this masterpiece of a movie. For example: there is a subtle pro-LGBTQ message. The 'malfunctioning' robots could easily be representative of unaccepted LGBTQ people. And the message is that they don't need to be fixed just because they don't do what is expected of them by society. And also with WALL-E and EVE. Neither one has an actual gender, yet everyone understands each is male or female even though neither one follows any sort of gender stereotype. They essentially displayed their own chosen gender and pronoun without aggressively shoving it in our faces. The movie is brilliant in every way.

something worth noting though, as long as Auto and the human race is in space, he has full control of everything, so is the directive the reason or the excuse to stay in space? this is sorta hinted at with the captain pictures with him getting closer with every new captain, in his mind A113 has made him the captain of the ship.

Following orders doesn't excuse you of blame. Auto, like any AI, didn't need to do what he was told. He made the decision to, because he knew he'd be without purpose and power if he went back home. Just like Wall-E and Eve, he could've changed if his desires didn't get in the way if his decisions.

Same here and I was 28 back then. It was a sad look into our reality if we give in to mass consumerism and carelessness for our environment. Personally, the ending at first was hard to watch (made me tear up) because at the time, my grandma had Alzheimer's. It was a horrible experience to watch the deterioration progress and there's nothing you can do about it. She stopped being verbal and even recognizing who I was. Just here to remind you all that wall-e spent 700 years by himself doing his job making those giant skyscraper sized trash towers all alone with all of his fellow brethren working themselves to death and the only way he was able to survive for so long was by using parts from his deceased brothers to keep going… just gonna let that sink in. Also fun fact, in the graphic novel “Wall-E recharge” not only does it explain how his brothers worked themselves to death, but it also explains that at first during his life, Wall-E actually didn’t do his job. He liked to wander around and collect stuff while his brothers worked for endless hours on end. Eventually, he became the last one, and since he hadn’t really done much work, he was in fairly good condition. From then on, he chose to keep doing the work his fellow brethren had been doing. (I still love this movie and always will, but it’s also a pretty dark movie that hits really close to home.)

Here’s a few more interesting facts/details about the movie: 1. The sound that Wall-E makes when he recharges his batteries is the same sound that a Mac makes when it boots up. 2. The voice actor who played EVE, Elissa Knight, is not really an actor; she was just an employee working at Pixar. She recorded all of EVE’s dialogue just to give the animation team something to work from while the casting people looked for a more famous actress to take the part. However, the producers ended up liking Knight’s performance in the role so much that they decided to just use her recordings in the final movie. 3. This one surprised me the most: Part of the sounds of EVE’s laser blasts were formed by tapping a slinky spring. How cool and creative is that? 🤩🤩🤩

5:41 it's actually super simple to solve a rubik's cube. There's only about 6 or 7 combinations of turns that you need to learn to fully complete it from any scramble combination. I watched a single KZbin video on it a year ago and managed to figure it out in about 20 minutes or so. Went from never being able to solve one, to being able to do it in about 2 minutes. And I'm a hopeless alcoholic, so if I can do it, anyone can lol Edit: solving a 3x3 is simple. 4x4 and up is where it starts to get tricky, and the algorithms you need to learn start accumulating drastically in comparison.

Fun fact for why old cartoons have great music. The movie production companies had orchestras on salary for movies but they thought it was a waste to pay them year round even when they didn't have anything to do so they had them play music for the cartoons. I think that set the standard for animated movies and shows.

As a HUGE animation fan, I love Pixar and because their filmography has one of the best films ever made, it can be hard to pick a favorite, but if I HAD to pick one, my favorite Pixar movie would be Wall-e. It just hits all the right places for me: the first 20-25 minutes is like a silent film, the romance between Wall-e and Eve is very Chaplinesque (Charlie Chaplin I mean), there's sci-fi, lots of creative robots, cute moments, etc. And of course, raises questions about our potential future of planet Earth and how we need to take care of it. So yeah I can't say enough great things about this movie

Director Andrew Stanton explained why he used excerpts from Hello, Dolly! (1969) in an interview: "When I got to 'Hello, Dolly!' and I played 'Put on Your Sunday Clothes', and that first phrase 'Out there...' came out, it just fit musically... I finally realized, 'You know what, this song is about two guys that are just so naive, they've never left a small town, and they just wanna go out in the big city for one night and kiss a girl. That's my main character.' And then my co-writer, Jim Reardon, said, 'You know what, he could actually discover an old tape in the trash, and that's how he got inspired by it, and it's a great way to show that he's got a romantic slant.' So we started looking at the movie, and when I found the other song, 'It Only Takes a Moment', and saw the two lovers holding hands, I realized, 'That's a perfect way for my main character to express the phrase 'I love you' without being able to say it.'" The vacuuming robot that follows WALL-E and EVE has a robotic version of the song "Put On Your Sunday Clothes." It's the first two lines of the song's chorus in electronic form. Stanton had portrayed Barnaby Tucker in a 1980 high school production. Jerry Herman allowed his songs to be used in the film without fully realizing how or why. When he saw how they worked in the film, he claimed it was "genius". To explore the possibilities of pure visual storytelling, Andrew Stanton and the Pixar team watched every single Charles Chaplin and Buster Keaton movie, both short films and features, every day during lunch for about 18 months.
