Bought 'Far Side of Crazy' on 7" vinyl ( IRS record label ), when it was first released, took it back to barracks, played it 50 times at least, flipped it over and played this brilliant track. Head exploded. Still got it, still play it.

I saw Wall of Voodoo many years ago at Parody Hall in Kansas City, Missouri. They put on a great show from beginnig to end.

I think they have a very distinctive guitar sound. A western feel. A wild west kinda band. I feel like I am in the desert. Somewhere out of town. WIV take me out there with their music. Great songs and band.

A vastly under rated iteration of a very cool band. Remember listening to this one as I tried to grasp 1st year calculus…..

He walked into a Mexican restaurant Looking for some pills She shivered on Cahuenga and Yucca She couldn't shake the chills An old man walked out of the Greyhound station Where did my wallet go? Jimmy, thirteen, lost and last seen His mother will never know He took the wrong way, the wrong way to Hollywood He took the wrong way A Babylon place where blondes die young It's a g-string girl's revenge Three boys bait on S&M and Highland for family men First, she says it’s just like Berlin She’s an idiot girl Give the people what they want It’s one man against the world The old soft shoe goes on and on The chump is down for the count And the one who lasts the longest gets the screen test at Paramount He took the wrong way, the wrong way to Hollywood He took the wrong way, the wrong way to Hollywood He took the wrong way A flash of nausea, a trembling hand Falling where we stood In a shallow doorway grave Lay me down in Hollywood He took the wrong way, the wrong way to Hollywood He took the wrong way, the wrong way to Hollywood He took the wrong way, the wrong way to Hollywood The wrong way to Hollywood

Such a great song title, wish it had been rythically more like 'They don't want me' by early Wall of Voodoo

Gonna get lot of criticism for this, but personally think Stan Ridgway made the band what it was. This man I have tried to admire the new sound, I just can’t

Amazing song. But it never takes off the way the live version does. And it's all in the mixing desk.

Re the people asking for SR - rubbish ! AP was as good a vocalist as SR. he also composed music (eg this track !) and helped write the lyrics. SR was a great lyric writer and vocalist. He did not compose any of the band's early music. The Moreland Brothers and Chas Gray (rip MM, ) did that.
@cosmohollywood865810 жыл бұрын
ummm you're wrong here about 2 things. You're wrong that Ridgway did not compose music with the band too. Of course he did. And its rip Marc and Joe. Not Chas. Better to get it right first than just post what you don't seem to really be sure of ? And they were a great band agreed!
@keithbate940510 жыл бұрын
cosmo hollywood Cosmo happy to admit I made a mistake re Chas. But as for SR my source is Bruce Moreland. So until you can give a better source for your comments that SR composed the band's music I will rely on the comments from some one who was in the band ! As I said I have no axe to grind here. Unlike many people I thought WOV were great from "a dogs life" until "the ugly Americans" there music was far ahead of its time, and to my ears still sounds modern (that electronic music is popular nowadays ) The only band I liked as much in 1979/80 was Joy Division , But they were nowhere as good after the tragic suicide of IC. WOV were "fire" to JD's " ice" a warmer sound. More exciting.

You're wrong about Stan. I've read Bruce Moreland's interview and he remarked that Stan had a habit of taking the songs presented by Marc, Chas , Bruce and making changes to them. Ridgway probably had as much a hand in composing the lyrics as anyone in the band. Marc however, composed the majority of the music.
