This is Awesome. I've never understood why the touring element of Rugby Union is not more of a drawcard for those players deciding between Union and League. I appreciate that Union is weaker from a domestic competition perspective... but the ability to travel to almost every continent, every year, to play in front of mammoth crowds has to be more appealing than touring to campbelltown stadium to play in front of 8,000 people on a Monday night.

The NRL pull crowds just as large even larger than any international union game, Joseph played in front of 80,000 in game 1 state of origin, game 2 had over 90,000, when was the last time any union game had more than that? You can say that union has the advantage of 'international lure' but to try and make out crowds are significantly bigger in union is outright false

And this video shows exactly why (well one of the reasons why) Union is a much more interesting sport. Rather than the most unique thing you do in a season being travelling on a bus out to Penrith or a flight to Townsville, you get to play in sold out stadiums across the world, with every place having a completely unique style and culture of rugby. From England to Ireland to France to Japan. I know AFL and league dominate the segment in Australia at the moment, but this is where Union absolutely stands above - it’s a truly global game, and it’s likely league and AFL will never ever be anywhere near that. Oh and let’s not forget it’s a better game anyway 😉

It’s the national sport of 8 countries, with world rugby comprised of 133 member nations. In the vast majority of countries where football is the biggest sport (ie France, England, Scotland, etc) rugby is the second most followed and watched winter sport. In the last 4 year cycle the rugby World Cup was the 3rd largest sporting event in the world behind the Olympics and the fifa World Cup. And it’s considered to be the 7th biggest sport in the world. So how exactly is it not a global sport? 🤡

The NRL also pulled larger average attendances to matches than ANY union domestic tournament, it smashed the next biggest (top 14) by several thousand
