You need to set your edger up to cut one inch square and four foot tomato stakes. Garden centers and farm supply stores love these things. I suggested this to one of my friends and he sold o er two thousand of them his first spring season

Well done and a great team.... please invest in some good hearing protection. I've had "tinnitus" for over ten years which started at 54/55 years old. I worked in a machine shop for only ten years and race motocross so was around two-stroke dirt bikes. Trust me you will be sorry if you don't wear good hear protection. Beautiful Wife... Great Job!

I just finished building my water wheel sawmill on the small river on my property. I have been building it for over a year. It works but I think the gear ratio is too high as the blade is stalling out. It's spinning fast but with not enough torque. Hopefully, I can figure it out so I can cut wood to build another barn and a small guest home behind my home. Hopefully, I can also build other stationary tools to run off the water wheel like a belt sander, grinder, band saw, and a rough lath. I guess with multiple disengaging gearboxes, anything is possible.

what you should do is make a bracket where the sawdust come out and go into a 5 or 10 gallon bucket hanging on the machine and then you wouldn't have all that sawdust pile up and have to climb over, and also you should use a leaf blower and blow some of that dust off your machine, might make it last longer?

One of the Amish mills near me got into a couple sidelines All the hardwood slash goes through a chipper and it and the sawdust gets run through a pellet making rig they got and gets sold as grill and stove fuel. The softwoods get chipped into pine mulch.

Nice vid! Here's an idea on how to get top cut the first time when the low point is at the end: Raise the blade, take it down just passed the end. Lower it till it's just under you cutoff (bark, etc), note that height, raise it back up and bring it back.

Teamwork makes the dream work! There is a market for those edger bits that are 1x1.5. Hobby woodworkers. building rabbit pens, chicken nest boxes, etc. I have cut down 2x4s to make smaller material to frame up small projects. A monthly ad on craigslist and someone would come haul away your "waste" material.. Don't give it away. People don't want free. Charge .50 per board.

I'm interested in how much time you spent on that order and how much $$ you charged . How do you price your time ? As you showed, you had to replace that guide roller so I would consider rollers as a consumable just like gas, oil ,blades etc. You obviously have equipment needed to operate . Do you charge by the board foot , by the hour ? Thanks.

You two do a great job at everything you do, and I enjoy all of your content. As an old guy who worked as a lineman for the power company my whole life around noisy equipment, let me offer a little advice to help you later on in life. Wear some good ear protection while working the equipment. The old guys I worked with when I was young harped on me about protecting my back, eyes and knees and I'm glad I listened, because I have no trouble with any of them. However, I do have Tinnitus (ringing in my ears). Never wore ear plugs is why. I mainly just hear it when it gets quiet at night. Y'all keep up the good work!

Tyler: That bearing was test-ran with water when the mill was built. It also never had any grease in it from the get-go. They are sealed bearings but some never get a drop of grease during assembly. I know this from personal experience. Pop the bearings out. Pop the seals out. Pack them with a dab of neverseize and red grease. Replace and enjoy. 👋

You work so hard in such a messy wood yard. Every time you saw a plank it makes one bucket of sawdust, it takes 5 seconds to empty into a barrel and you work clean and have extra income. The same with all the off cuts, they have value in two ways one you work clean and two sell the chippings togarden centers,

For some reason it's relaxing to me to watch logs being sawmilled. No idea why. I've never done it and prob never will. However, it's strange and sad to me how many KZbinrs are willing to use their own body or the body of their significant others to get views. It doesn't matter what the subject and I have seen the trend on several sawmill channels. If you make good content, the viewers will come.

When you cut these orders do you dry the lumber or leave that to the customer? That’s something I always get stuck on - it’s a common appearance that wood is milled then used but I always thought it is a must to dry it before use.

Fun vid to watch. You banged those boards out quick style. Good stuff. I hate being that guy with the advice, but ear protection? Being old with crap hearing is not something anyone wants. It's never fun constantly putting ear protection on and taking it off, but it's better than being hard of hearing when you are older. Forgive the advice, but health is important. (Though maybe you rock it when the camera isn't on.)
