Sweden has a longstanding tradition of fostering internationally prominent mathematicians, with many students wanting to undertake doctoral studies in the field.
Nevertheless, Swedish mathematical research has been losing ground internationally during past decades.
By establishing a research programme offering international experience to the best young researchers in Sweden, and enabling recruitment of young as well as more experienced mathematicians to Sweden, the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation aims to strengthen research in Mathematics.

What I don't understand is why mathematics/science isn't more often taught separately from other courses. Having to write 5 page essays on arbitrary works of literature while also doing "humanities" requirements during undergrad seems like a pointless distraction.
@alexandrugheorghe5610
@alexandrugheorghe5610 6 жыл бұрын
Erik Nomura it's not pointless. We don't know how the brain works exactly but we do know that cross curriculum helps at the very least your brain plasticity but also fundamental knowledge about the world which you're a part of whether you like it or not. It's good not to end up in situations like Trump in the states, neo communism in South of Europe etc. These lectures help the humanity which is just as important when you impact it through your regular work. There's an Romanian writer very famous (Liiceanu, his name) for saying that you, as a human, have 3 jobs: 1st is the job of being a citizen, 2nd that of being human, 3rd is your regular job (work).

Scientists can't perform well in exams ever. To discover sth, u need to have mind which can go deep which happens when minds are free of all disturbances. Exams are to measure how much practise u did and how much u remember. They can never measure the real ability for research i.e a mind which can visualize and can go deeper.

@Karthick Jayaraman In a sense, since much of the course litterature is in English. But when I studied philosophy at the University of Lund about ten years ago the lectures were held in Swedish. We have a lot of guest students from other countries here at the University in Lund, where i reside, so maybe some of the lectures are held in English. But I don't know. Google it in English. If the universities in Sweden have lectures in English it'll show up. Good luck!

I suggest that you be clearer, then. Fact of the matter is that esteem and pride is strongest perhaps with those who sincerely believe that the school of mathematics founded in America is more valuable than that which is worked upon elsewhere. Honestly, it is not expected that anyone understands that origins by nationality is not even a legitimate subject of discussion in the realm of mathematics, and I admit that I am defensive on that point. I don't wish to comment on your personal insults.
