Borderline wargame is music to my ears. Will have to see where I can play a session before I decide to buy, because it looks very intriguing. Thanks for covering this one, Dan.

Dirk Henn is a fantastic designer, and Wallenstein/Shogun is certainly some of his best work.

I prefer the theme of Shogun (mechanically they are 100% the same), but some people prefer the map of Wallenstein. Personally I love Shogun on the moon side of the board (you can't turtle).

This map is great! Recently grabbed the Shogun big box and Tenno’s Court expansion is a solid plus for Shogun as well!

Hey Dan! I've been thinking about this one, since I have found someone selling a second hand one bat a reasonable price. I just got Lancaster, and it feels like a natural comparison of a game. With Lancaster, I'm finding it plays best at 4 or 5. What are your thoughts on player count with Wallenstein? And, do you think that they are different enough to have both? Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi Jeffrey. They are certainly different enough to warrant owning both. I am pretty sure you'll have a good time with this one if you regularly have 4-5 players who aren't afraid of a bit of confrontation, which sounds like is well suited for you and your group if you enjoy Lancaster.

So shogun just a different theme/map? No rule changes? If you own shogun no sense getting Wallenstein? What is the difference between regular box and big box?

As far as I'm aware it's exactly the same game. Just a different map. Definitely no sense owning both. There's a bunch of modules you can add but I haven't tried any yet.
