Bellroy Card Pocket Zipper wallet might be too small

QOTD: ⚡ ZIPPERS!! We've reviewed a bunch, and I know we have diverse opinions, are you warming up to them or not? I tend to find that most Men's basis for not liking them is that it reminds them too much of a purse....that aside, what are your thoughts?

You're probably right about the purse angle. Can you imagine a tough guy, or U.S marine rolling into the store to buy a case of beer, and pulling out a zipper wallet? Me either. So they have that marketing hurtle to deal with right off the bat. For me, I like the idea, it certainly makes everything secure inside. The SIM storage i believe is mostly worthless. Most new phones have a built in SIM card that functions perfectly for international travel. I use the eSim on my iphone 11 when I travel multiple times a year (the US version has a physical sim, and eSim). All of that being said, you probably won't find me talking about how i'm enjoying my new zipper wallet anytime soon ;). Great review, but where is my, "cash, credit card AND business card insertion test"???

@@erikkalifornia5182 Hehe, well, we're about a month out in published videos in the pipeline from our discussion about that, so hold tight 😀Good comment about the SIM cards. I agree on the eSIM as it will eventually remove the need for that, but that will be years in the making for countries with networks which are developing behind 1st world and especially users who tend to go with older phones and hold on them for longer. But regardless, it will disappear in the future.

Personally, I love the zip ones, however, I find that they generally do not have much grip in the pocket as do the folding ones, and subsequently sliding out.

You put the cards in the wrong slot. With that many cards the center slot is the best place unless you really need to put your keys into it. Actually if more than one frequently used card you should put them into center slot. Putting keys into it isn’t a wise idea if you have any kind of personal ID there. If the wallet is lost the founder may know where the keys can be used illegimately. It’s perfect wallet if used correctly :)

I carry around 9 cards with this wallet and i realized that it is easier to just have the cards outside the pockets. You can easily pick out the card you need. The coin area is where hide the big bills and spare house key. The lower pocket is where I keep smaller bills. It's size is the reason I chose this wallet. Minimal, tiny and easy to use. My favorite wallet.

Use one of these when engaged in activity that requires a little extra “contents” security. Never have put cards in the pocket, but have put cash and a Tile in there. Cards (10-12) are placed in the main area without any interference with the zipper. Never noticed/paid attention to-the coin thing-thank you for pointing that out! Probably will move the Tile there.

Hello Walletopia, you should keep all cards in a main middle section, and use pocket just for cash or just few cards... then you can keep easy 15 cards and it's very easy access to any of your cards.

@@mbrousseau22 Absolutely. I have this wallet down for a 2nd LOOK video due to what I've learned from everyone. With that I would put the usability at a 3 which moves its overall score to 36/50.

I’ve had two of these, the previous version and the current one over the past 5-6 years. I love them because they’re by far the most efficient card carrier in the market. I had to carry close to 10 cards at one point, and it stayed very thin because there was no leather layer between each card like most other wallets. The straight compartment can take cards, but it’s meant for coins. The angled compartment is for cash (I fold them in third). My cards sit freely in the middle, as the design intended. It is a fully enclosed pouch and not a bifold, so the 15 cards aren’t meant to go into the side slots. They are not the most durable wallets. I retired the old one because the zipper fabric developed a hole, right after the 3-year warranty period. My current one has some considerable scuffs on the leather due to rubbing with another leather object in my pocket, so it’s not the toughest material. I tolerate the shortcomings because they are supposed to be very minimalistic and thin, and they serve the intended purpose very well. Because it is so small, I actually carry two wallets. This one is for emergency cash, insurance cards, licenses, memberships, company ID, company credit card, and infrequently used personal credit & debit cards. It stays in the back pocket, sharing the space comfortably with a multitool. My front pocket wallet is a true minimalist that holds the driver’s license, 2 cards, and a bit of cash, rotating between various models. It is so thin that it can stack with my phone without creating a noticeable bulk. The Dash wallet is just 3/8” thick with 4 cards and 5 bills folded in third. Not having to unzip just to show ID or pay the bar tab is nice.

I’ve been using one for several months now and it’s served me really well. In the UK we have a lot more coins and it takes them fine. About 14 cards and notes in the slot with a book of stamps. I tried lots of wallets and this is the only one that’s delivered on its promise

love this Wallet i still have and use the original elements version. as a farmer the out side has bean beaten up but it lives up to the elements claim the inside is still clean I've bean covered in Australia dust and wheat dust both tend to get almost every where also been covered in oil and had a cow push me in to a watering trough and its still clean on the inside. wish they would bring back the elements line.

I put cards in the middle and notes in the side pocket, then I can put lots of cards in and it doesn't catch on the zipper at all.

The cash/currency slot is actually used for the slot you inserted the 4 test cards. Any cards you have are to be inserted in the middle of the wallet stacked on each other. They do that on purpose so you can go through your cards and pick which one you want without having to take them all out. You also can insert cash in the middle over the cards if you'd like. You did put the coins in the right slot though. Hopefully this helps you review other zip wallets better in the future. I would give this wallet 5/5 stars!

I have this wallet and I use it for travel. Love the quality and how small it is. You’re supposed to keep the cards in the middle. Cash goes in that little sleeve.

I have this wallet in black with an Orbitkey attached to the zipper part. Perfect little wallet for me cause I don’t carry a lot of cash on me (One or two notes for emergencies). I put the cards in the middle of the wallet and I put my daily medication (tablets) in the cash sleeve part (It’s easier to remember to take them everywhere with me 😅)

I watched this video about 8 times before deciding to buy one of these. I wasn't sure about the idea of using something that could be considered being along the same lines as a lady's purse. But on getting it, and having now used it for three weeks, I'm a convert. My other very nice leather wallets can hold maybe five cards, four bills and no coins. This small Bellroy can hold my debit card, three credit cards, three loyalty cards, my driving licence and as it's not RFID enabled, I bung in an RFID card too - I know ... Oh yes I can include a couple of pound coins for shopping trolleys etc and it's still, small, secure and neat. Mine comes with an OOK zip, which I "lubricated" with some graphite and a tiny dab of nano-oil. Since then the zip is smooth. I have wonky fingers due to arthritis, so I appreciate the ease with which I can select cards from the large middle section. It's not for everyone, but it's eminently practical for me.

The cards are actually meant to go in the open compartment in addition to the slot. this can store 12 cards easily. i have used a couple of these, if you jam the cards in the pockets you will wear out the zipper..the 3yr warranty is good.

The more I see zippered wallets the more I want one! Side note: I used to think RFID blocking was a good thing but after watching your video on it I remembered how it lessened the durability of an Andar wallet I used to have. The cards would catch on the inside sewing from the leather and fabric and within just a few months, the lining tore so I went with an all leather wallet from Popov. Anyways, love your vids and I hope to see more zippered wallets in the channel!

I have to thank Bellroy, because they got me into making my own wallets. Their quality is so bad and their designs are so nice that you get truly inspired. Never buy anything that is machine stitched or leather laminate. Your money deserves a true refuge.
