I'm surprised that the electrical room was buzzing so hard with barely anything on. Security, if you see this... Thanks for giving us an opportunity to say goodbye to the store. ❤️
@Prnencetti2 жыл бұрын
Before the Great Northern Mall in Clay New York had water pipes burst and they closed down I put a picture of the abandoned Sears at that mall online on Facebook. People said that that's merely for security purposes. They just leave the lights on for security to not encourage Vandallism and not encourage theft. But if you ask me that just does waste money running all that electricity in a place like that when you don't need it but yeah if they did put it on motion sensors like they did in this video then that would save a lot of energy because the lights would cut on when you walked in a room and they would cut off when you leave a room.
@irefusetoaskmydoctorifyour64012 жыл бұрын
@@Prnencetti When I worked at Caldor (admittedly decades ago), they would turn off ALL the lights at the end of the day when the employees left. They said it would make it HARDER for would-be thieves because with the store pitch-black they'd have to bring their own light, AND, with thermal motion detectors, the police are already on their way. But yeah, I wonder who's paying the electric bill too. JC Penney? The mall owners? The electric company sure doesn't give that stuff away for free!

I’m still upset that I didn’t get to see this location during liquidation, so I’m glad to see what it looks like now. It’s very weird seeing it without the clothing but when you’re inside of it. Don’t know if my logic is making any sense here, but you get what I mean. Great video!

Huge stores look tiny on the inside when all the shelving is gone after they close down. Walmart for example feels huge when the store is open, but when one closes down and you can see from one corner to the other, it feels tiny! It makes you think "all that crap fit in there?!"
@BoratWanksta2 жыл бұрын
@@christiangonzales7429 I always get that same feeling in myself too, when the store shelves are removed from a store after its store closing sale. Yep totally know what you mean, that you get that feeling 'all that merchandise and shelves fit in there?'.

One of the two JCPenney stores in Indianapolis closed, which opened in a former Kmart in 2006. It was basically brand new, and had even received a bit of a renovation a few years back. It was a super strange layout, as it was super narrow and long and in a strip center. It never really did too well for them, as the big multilevel location at Castleton Square has always been a popular store in the area.

These are hands-down your best videos Wallie, the ones where you get INSIDE abandoned places! Nice! That boo-doop,! boo-doop! beeping reminds me of that Ames store you were in, where the whole interior was rotting away but you could still hear that boo-doop!, boo-doop! coming from somewhere in the back. For 17 years, 24 hours a day, just boo-doop! boo-doop! FAITHFULLY, every 7 seconds, just waiting for someone to put the key in and de-activate the alarm. It's eerie and heroic at the same time.

All the lights are wires to occupancy sensors .. by the fact some came on before you got in a room there sound/movement combos. They listen for sound combined with movement. They are required in most commercial business now for energy efficiency. Thus the lights automatically turn off after a set period of no activity

I got to go into the abandoned JCPenny in Ottumwa iowa. A grocery store ( south Ottumwa Hy-Vee) rented out a small portion of the store to have something similar to a tent sale in the old space. I snuck behind the curtains and got a peek at the former JCPenny. I believe Kohl's coming to town is what drive them out of business. The store was small and dated.

This looks a lot more like a 1978-1984 “greenhouse entrance” JCP (a single story version) on the inside than a 2005 one. The white ceramic tile in the main aisle and angled entrance threw me off too, that was also a feature of those stores. This must have been a holdover design.
