Its the decending economy i have to work on . Iv been really targeting that in every way i can think of ie 2 note 3, 4 . Per string etc. I didnt realise i aready use evonomy a lot acending untill after a few yrs . Good lesson

Great playing in the intro. I had boatloads of trouble doing strict alternate picking. Economy picking always felt more natural to me, especially descending. So I just went with it. Now I use both, depending on what is easiest. I tried the exercise and it is a great introduction to the technique imo. Licks that you can 'loop' are a very useful for focused practice.

Hey same fr me except i made the habit of decending alternate except when having to start a lower string with a down stroke in some cases . Its weird when u become aware of what yr actually doing but spending time on these things is really helpfull . Well for me it is anyway

Great lesson but I have to mention: adjacent is pronounce a(d)h-jay-cent where the D is nearly silent.

MetalAllDayAllNight Great comment but I have to mention: “pronounced” is spelled p-r-o-n-o-u-n-c-e-d. The D is not silent.

I'm an old school metal guitarist and I know that the shred community are big on economy picking. But did economy picking even exist in the early days of rock & metal ? In other words, did 70's & 80's rock and metal guitarist such as Richie Blackmore, Glen Tipton, KK Downing, Randy Rhoads, Rudolf Schenker, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith use this technique ? I'm going to guess that the answer is a hard No. And when you consider the multitudes of epic solos that were played using alternate picking, then I have to question, if alternate picking was good enough for them then why isn't it good enough for the rest of us ?

“Bad example”? I thought it sounded great! 😃

I always thought economy picking is natural and alternate is awkward especially if you have to start a lower string on a upstroke.
@Wallimann5 жыл бұрын
It definitely is not super natural at first. It becomes very natural after a while though!
