This is such a wonderful song I have never understood why it isn't more often sung as a standalone number. It's so poignant, so simple, and with the Sondheim trademark way with words. The ending is crushing. And some people say Sondheim couldn't write tunes!

Wayne is such an expert at improvising melodies and riffs. You can tell he was extra careful to learn all of Sondheim's notes and rhythms perfectly and not mess with them because he respects the material so much. Lovely rendition!
