Spring in the Poconos has arrived and with it the first Milford Saint Patrick's Day Parade! The lineup was amazing and featured two bagpipe bands, leprechauns, smokey the bear, a Sasquatch, mascots, and lots of community organizations. Sponsored by Davis R. Chant Realty and the Milford Hospitality Group as well as other businesses, the first time parade drew hundreds of participants and vehicles and thousands of spectators. It took over an hour for the entire parade to pass through town. Everyone had a great time and there were no shenanigans. You don't want to miss this St. Patrick's Day parade next year! Also on the same weekend, the Two River's Race Marathon held its annual race festival with hundreds of runners completing the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Full Marathon races. Several people ran the Marathon in order to qualify for other Marathons, such as the Boston Marathon. For some, the race weekend is a time to get together with friends for some device free bonding! The Two River's Marathon is the first race of the season in the Northern Poconos and one of the best attended race festivals in the area. Start training now for next year! Coming up on April 27th is this year's Wayne County Canoe Classic running from the Wayne County Fairgrounds to White Mills, Pennsylvania. Paddle just for fun or compete for prizes! Lacawac Sanctuary has a long history in the Pocono Mountains. From it's connections to the creation of Lake Wallenpaupack to being the first second home in the Poconos Mountains and quite possibly the Pocono's first vacation property for rent. Lacawac is not only a great place to explore but it is also an important scientific resource known for being the southern most protected glacial lake in the United States formed during the Ice Age. This segment is part 3 of a 4 part series written and narrated by Chad Reed Watres, the great grandson of Colonel Watres, who had the original idea to dam the Wallenpaupack River to harness the Hydroelectric potential of the river to power local rail transportation. Part 3 covers the History of Lacawac following World War II and how the Watres Family restored the property and then gave it all away.
