With unseasonably warm weather, the ice was too thin to play pond hockey at Wally Ice Fest, but in recent years the event has focused on music and creating a winter festival to celebrate the community. With two music stages, activities, vendors, food and drink, there was plenty to do and record crowds turned out to enjoy the beautiful sunny winter day. The Two Rivers Race Marathon will be held in Lackawaxen on March 16th and 17th. Get up off the couch and start training now for this year's race marathon! There is a race for every level of athlete. Lacawac Sanctuary has a long history in the Pocono Mountains. From it's connections to the creation of Lake Wallenpaupack to being the first second home in the Poconos Mountains and quite possibly the pocono's first vacation property for rent. Lacawac is not only a great place to explore but it is also an important scientific resource known for being the most southern protected glacial lake in the United States. This segment is part 1 of a 4 part series written and narrated by Chad Reed Watres, the great grandson of Colonel Watres, who had the original idea to dam the Wallenpaupack River to harness the Hydroelectric potential of the river to power local rail transportation. Rohman's Winter Olympics is coming up on Saturday, February 24th. The community even is in its 38th year and is often lovingly referred to as the Redneck Rodeo of the Pocono Mountains. It is definitely worth checking out in its 38th year. Sign up now as the events fill up quickly!
Eagle watching in the Pocono Mountains peaks during January and February every year. The Delaware Highlands Conservancy runs bus trip, tours and operate eagle blinds throughout the Northern Poconos. For more info go to DelawareHighlands.org.
