Flair, catfish bait is not complicated. Slice up some hot dogs about half inch thick and put in a ziplok baggy and pour in a cherry kool-aid packet. Let the bag set a room temp all day then go fishing.

Large mouth bass taste different from a private pond or lake, no pollutants etc. you don't get that 'grassy' taste. NOW, I had a good idea (they happen now and then). Turn your little shed by the pond into a bunkie! build up some bunk beds on the side, couple solar panels on the roof, battery bank inside (for charging batteries etc), and you can do pond challenges much easier, protected from elements (so you can do it there year round). Just need your buddy heater, mattresses and sleeping bags. You can even clear a fire pit outside for cooking, or just use that old bbq.

Snowstorm camping/ice fishing for sure! We did that in Alaska, in the heart of winter, called "cold bagging," for army training; without a tent. You'd need some slightly warmer sleeping arrangements and cold weather clothing/layers.

Great catfish bait is chicken livers or hog shoulder (cut into cubes). Can get at local meat market. For chicken livers, I soak in garlic powder and Koolaid (strawberry or cherry) undiluted.

You should use a minnow trap to catch your bait before you go to Wal-Mart. Then you'll be ready to go for catfish. And drier long is a good fire starter.

I use 7 foot heavy action for channel catfish and have caught 50 pound blues and the best bait is shrimp for smaller cats normally 15 and under and use bluegill or shad depending on what the main food sources are but normally a bluegill head on a circle hook with 60 pound power pro braid or mono (any line works) but I use braid because there isn't many sharp rocks in my lake that I fish and normally I use a 3 ounce lead with a bead then swivel then 29 pound leader to a circle hook that's it.
