Just a frendly warning for your fire truck, its something that was drilled into my head when i was a new recruit in traning. Slamming the bail shut on your hose is really bad for all the piping and fittings inside your truck! Its called water hammer and basically it sends a big shock wave through the whole water system and can cause alot of internal damage. The proper technique is to just close it slowly especially when your running high pressure. Love the content as always!

@brians1793 I drive a pumper tender for my county FD. It can be sketchy to drive, especially over rough roads. Top heavy and the weight shifts. One of the first things that drill into you is to treat it like it can tip over on any turn because it can. Scott's engine isn't quite as bad because it is longer and not as tall as your average modern engine but 1500 gallons at roughly 8lbs per gallon is still a lot of weight before you add the engine. My tender tops out at 70mph pedal to the floor when fully loaded. We don't even run code (lights/sirens) when responding when driving on the interstate because normal traffic is faster than us. Any other road we will though.

Well half of me is like, "It's just a truck that was either scheduled for scrap or reuse some how, so it's not a huge loss." And the other half of me is like, "That's probably how a lot of other historical artifacts were lost to time." I can totally see internal combustion engines going this kind of route. Someone gets an old Willy's L134 engine and runs the sucker and experiments to see what it takes to blow it up and that just happens to be the very last one and we no longer know how to build them... That's probably how all the other things from the 90's became ancient artifacts.....1990's that is.🤣

I remember back in girl scouts, we visited a Fire Station, and they basically said that at full blast, the Main Nozzle/Hose on the average Fire Truck could and would literally strip your skin off, possibly right down to the bone. Or in better comparison, a simple spray at max pressure would be like being dragged behind an F-1 car, with your skin/muscle being ripped off, while taking a blast heading would be like getting slammed into by a solid steel wall at near 100-200 miles per minute (or something similar)

Hi Scott, When I was a firefighter in the 80's we used to have team competitions called "barrel rolling" played on an outdoor basketball court where 3 firefighters for each side handled the hose in the key of the court and 2 more from each team on the side and the points were scored by pushing the plastic barrel, about ⅓ full of water, from the center to the other side and hold it there for 3 minutes to win a point. Of course, when the other team pushes the barrel out of bounds, the linesman had to push the barrel back in, on the clock. Of course, to distract the linesman of the other side, you hit'em with the hose until the barrel was back in play😂 There was a referee and was played in full bunker gear for protection and if anyone had gear blown off, it was an instant win 🏆 This game made sharpshooting a fire 🔥 much more effective because of muscle memory and directing the stream where and when it's needed. ..and it was a load of laughs 😃 The solid stream hose nozzels are brutal at close range but always remember, never,ever let go of a hose under pressure and open because it will turn into a "wild-snake" if it gets away and I've seen a hose and nozzel take a corner off a concrete block building with gusto before the pumper operator could shut the line down in seconds so be careful with this toy. It's probably more dangerous than most of the other toys you have 😮 so play safe😊

It had lost one of the deck guns in a heavy storm and never got it replaced for the remaining duration of the ships use. I remember that. Anyways, we got to simulate an engine fire. And we got to learn how the hoses work. I got to be at the front, the one who opened the nozzle. Which had to be deliberate, as *as an adult now*, I am 5 feet, 2 inches tall. I was positively pocket-sized as a teen. The all clear came up the line of people holding the hose, I opened up the nozzle, and *WHAM!* went flat on my back from the force. To my credit; I did not release the hose! Though it took a bit of effort to close the nozzle. I was soaked and laughing my butt off.

@@brianhamalainen8817would be more like 1400 pounds of force per second because you have 200 psi and about 7 square inches of water exiting from a 3 inch nozzle meaning it would be 700x2 but I'm just now realizing you calculated for the weight of the water not the pressure like I did lmao

@@noodlelynoodle. Yeah, I was going to do those calculation, but I remembered that fire nozzles basically spray 'hollow' sprays of water so figuring out the water cross-section would be pretty tough. (How It's Made has a good video on fire nozzles, that was suggested from this video, and it shows the central core that spreads the water out)
@noodlelynoodle.
@noodlelynoodle. 4 ай бұрын
@@brianhamalainen8817 I feel like it would probably come out to about the same amount of total force overall even though it would be less surface area then cause I imagine if it's spreading it like that it's increasing the pressure past 200 psi in the nozzle and concentrating that force down into basically a circular knife of water lmao I could be totally wrong about that but like my thinking is if you're taking a 3 inch hose worth of 200 psi and forcing it through something to distribute it only around the edges like that the pressure must increase

Scott just says hold my beer and buys a ready made one that he really doesnt need just because his camera man showed him an ad for one. Being a GunTuber must be weird! With that being said, buying one just to see if HJ can survive it was an AWESOME idea and I think that the majority of people will agree.

That was just nuts! Also, with you standing with the fire hose between your legs spraying out, it looked very dodgy. The scarecrow looked far better when it revealed itself as a Terminator. You and Houston laughing hysterically as you destroyed the zombie, first by flowing his head off and scalping it, then seeing organs flying when you blasted it point-blank before driving it into the wheel arch of the truck. We saved this for our usual Friday evening Scotfest. You didn't disappoint !!
