+marsha Eisner: This is where unions should step in. Have all employees cash the checks on the same day en masse, then file massive grievances and class action suits against WalMart for violating court orders when these employees are terminated. Also, follow up when the stores attempt to harass and discipline employees for trumped up charges. I know this is EXTREMELY difficult seeing people have to earn money to live, and being a union rep for my craft, I know management intimidation/manipulation tactics well. I very rarely shop WalMart for the fact it is SO unfriendly towards unions. Stay strong.

In the long run even the unions are controlled why do you think Bobby Kennedy went after them ruthlessly. No the answer is and always has been in Washington. A government that is truly for the people would stand up to these national and international corporations and kick ALL of the ones out that will not follow the law of the land. Even under penalty of death. That is because the country is being bled dry now and our livelihoods are at stake! The solution now is to vote for a political party (a new one) under a new system of government that is not controlled by the two-party politic system. This party is called the National American Liberation Party--->GOOGLE THIS NAME.

@@ututheavenger I'm from latino américa, unions are like a desease , for society. If you want a better job, study something specific with demand or build something for your own, imagine stop a national port for 3 days, damaging the economy of a nation and try to make fractures in the economy just with the intention to ruin a government, that happens here in Latam, the people who are benefited are the unions and the political parties that represent not the workers.

My son worked for Walmart and it was crazy. I also know a friend that lives in another country, and they(Walmart) treated her badly. She had to work long ridiculous hours. I believe it was like 12-14 hours, and only 8 of those hours were on record. She had to work the other hours off the clock in order to continue to have a place to live. If she didn't then she would lose her job and home. The company provided a place to live with no running water. She had to share it with 8 other girls. It was a room about the size of a 10 by 10 storage unit. My son's fiancé at the time had just got hit by a car on the road in front of Walmart, and they fired him for going out to see if she was ok. Does that sound fair to you? I'm all for working hard for your money, and not complaining about your job. However, not when treatment is beyond reasonable grounds for human decency.

I have worked at Walmart for nearly 2 years now, I'm currently 20, and being honest, I love being there, mostly just because of my coworkers, for anyone who has worked there, I'm a second shift unloader, when I started my job was relatively nice, we had on average, about 8 unloaders a day, our day consisted of: Unloading a GM truck, Processing one touch, break, setting up for pullout, lunch, pullout pallets, bin and pick, break, continue, go home. Our day months after all the way till now: Unload GM truck, unload grocery truck, unload frozen dairy truck, process one touch, break, break down grocery process apparel, lunch, unload gm freight, unload grocery freight, process shoes, clean the entire backroom, bin and pick, break, return, and go home. All of that, with on average about 6 unloaders, occasional 8 on maybe 2 days a week, on top of that a coworkers back is out, and has been out for 8 months so he can only do one touch, and can't even unload it on his own. Most of the mangers don't respect us, or appreciate what we put into our jobs, especially for such little pay, virtually pointless benefits, and no respect from them, or customers, all in all the only reason i stay is because when i sit and work with people i have known for a long time now, working in such rough conditions we have almost become like brothers, and if anything i can take from walmart it is that, and lucky for us a small amount of managers see what we do and appreciate the hell out of us, and honestly i dont even really blame the store managers for how the store runs, i dislike corporate, since they pretty much are the reason for everything in my eyes, although the managers put alot of pressure on everyone, i feel that if corporate would give an adequate amount of money to spend to the store maybe they could actually hire the people needed and give a decent amount of pay, i honestly am disturbed knowing that what my shift does is the spine of the store, yet some guy in the deli cooking chicken gets paid more than a dollar more than me, but still. Its been a unique experience.

Do it to a song, like 'They don't really care about us". That'd be better. (But then, I guess that'd be more fitting for 'OurWalmart' than 'Walmart', wouldn't it?)

I work at walmart and we hate these people who come in.. they are NOT walmart workers.. they are people from labor ready work today paid today type services and are hired to do this..I have seen the same people holding pizza place signs as well. And they break stuff and pour soda on the floor and pretty much fill carts full of stuff that we have to put back... why would i wanna join them?.. dam freaks.

I am really happy to see that so many people support these workers. Those common people standing against workers are not bad people, they are victims. They have been led to believe that they and all other human beings are nothing more than wage slaves. The message is not blatant, but think of the message these people get. They listen to what the TV says to them. It's time to turn off the TV, people. The TV is never going to tell you the truth, because the TV shows you media that is owned by rich people who want you to work for them for low wages so they can make more money. They don't want you to see yourself as a human being, they want you to forget that life is short, and they don't want you believing that your life is precious and means something. Please, don't listen to those people who tell you that. Life is precious, and if you are going to spend your valuable time working, you should be compensated well. Don't let yourself be devalued by an impersonal system that doesn't care about you. Peace and love

It's funny because when I went to orientation for a Walmart job they showed us a video about why we SHOULDN'T strike against Walmart. haha. I geuss that big corporate business feels threatened enough to where they have to show their soon-to-be associates that striking against them wouldn't be good.

I liked the part when some of the customers split too. I loathe Walmart. I refuse to go. This was long before I learned of how Walmart treats their employees. Once I found out, my response was simply, "Not surprised one bit". And solidified my boycott.
@tiffanyferris320910 жыл бұрын
out of all the protests I've seen this one isn't bad. . and I have seen plenty of people working part-time at Walmart being fired for ridiculous reasons. Everyone deserves to be respected regardless of who they are and were they work. There is no excuse for a hostile work environment none what so ever. If there is one than in is management's responsibility to fix it.
@PaulOtt11 жыл бұрын
Instead of protesting Walmart's firing practices, why don't we protest their importing of products made in overseas factories? If we had local manufacturing, these workers would have higher paying job choices available to them.
@trollinirl11 жыл бұрын
mmm I hear you but it's not an either/or issue. Both the bad labour practices and the use of cheap labour overseas are the fault of capitalism trying to squeeze more profit, both should be fought against.

OK, couple of thoughts here folks. I have a few friends who either worked or their wives worked at Walley World and you know what, after couple years, they were well above minimum wage and had benefits. No, they were not management, but after five years, one did work her way up to that point. Look, Walmart is a starter job or, one for a retired person who wants something to do. Its not a full time, pay all your bills job. I do feel for these people but as a consumer, Walmart and Target are cheaper on their products. We see what unions do to business, jack up prices, cause lay-offs and eventually, close the doors cause its too expensive to hire people. Has to be a happy medium. If walmart and flipping burgers is your idea of a full time raise a family job, you need to go back to school.
@rcrbrewster784010 жыл бұрын
Dude... Blah blah blah.... It's NOT just Walmart or McDonald's. Nor can you oversimplify and say that Walmart is a "Starter Job" because it isn't. It's ALSO a job for the uneducated. Simply put.... Minimum wage needs to be at least $15 an hour to be able to keep up with inflation.

More Meritocracy bollocks. Why are there demonstrations against Walmart around the world? Look at all the videos on KZbin with striking Walmart workers.
@stringslinger550410 жыл бұрын
A study of the last 30 yrs will show how wages have not kept up with inflation, whether it's gas, rent, groceries, clothing etc...the STAPLES of survival. Corporate greed and mismanagement are huge contributors. Instead of coming up with a better product or better marketing and a better business plan with less corporate fattening, the easiest way to make a profit is buying cheaply overseas and getting away with treating employees like slaves. Profit at all costs is costing working people their standard of living. Once the bastion of the free industrialized world envied by all, the United States now falls far behind most European countries in quality of life. Where once you were entitled to a two week vacation every year, now you're threatened with job loss....in parts of Europe including Germany, Finland etc...it's MANDATORY 4-6 weeks vacation per year. An employee is an asset and needs to be given motivation through reward, not fear. And thank you corporate America for being a sellout and buying overseas and shutting down factories and creating the state of the economy as we know it. The more dependent you are on other countries the easier it is for you to fail and fall, it's not about get an education and a job and provide better for your family...because even that is being farmed out to visa'd workers or customer service centers abroad. America needs to get back in the game of manufacturing and save itself.

String Slinger the ruling class don't care about using the carrot anymore, they use the stick instead. Unemployment and poverty is deliberately cultivated to serve as a deterrent against strikes and workers asking for better pay and conditions. Karl Marx describes it as 'The Reserve Army' and most countries use this tool, although it's never admitted.
