I love following these journeys on an OS map. Really helps me imagine what these lines must have looked like.

Absolutely wonderful - I have been looking at vintage photographs of Walnut Tree Viaduct ever since we moved into Pentyrch 40 years ago. I walked into the tunnel on the lower Garth as far as I could in the dark [when it was still possible ]. I am trying to find a good map of the train route too. When we first moved in, our neighbour across the street told me how he had first moved here to demolish the viaduct. The towers are built of engineering bricks and extremely tough. They removed one of the towers with great difficulty and had to resort to using dynamite as conventional means were not working. After that a decision was made to leave the others in place.

Thank you Ben I grew up literally 5 mins from Wenvoe tunnel and walked the track bed north and south. Happy memories of the tunnel and the drope viaduct.

Absolutely cracking animation of a little known part of the Welsh network. There clearly is no better way of reliving past railway journeys than animations like these. Many thanks Ben.

@@TheOpenBoatDAFFODIL no we didn't have wellies just shoes and 1 flashlight we wasn't very well prepared for it and we entered the tunnel at 19:30 we was very surprised how long a mile is.

Another masterpiece Ben. Loved it,with some great highlights such as crossing Walnut tree Viaduct, and the footbridge at Cadoxton Sidings. Wenvoe Tunnel and Station were great, I never realised there were Sidings at Wenvoe, so there was a lesson for me as well. ! Roll on your next Trip, I'll be on it. ..

I would love it if you could recreate the Neath low level to Brecon run. I recall being on one of the last passenger trips as a youngster in the early 1960s . Terrible shame they scrapped the line as the scenery in the upper Swansea Valley from Colbren on was spectacular.

Hi Ben,are you going to complete the journey from Penrhos down to the viaduct? Also how about the Cardiff Railway from Coryton to where it joined the Taff Vale Railway? I'd eally like to see both of those.

The folly of ripping up railways because of the age of diesel and petrol is becoming evident with oil supplies in decline. Electric road vehicles are a mirage.

Enjoyed watching this. Were you aware of the aquaduct just north of where the M4 now crosses and the stone footbridge immediately on the south side of the M4? Not many pictures of this aquaduct but I have some saved in a file and can send when I locate them.
