The flote feature lets the boom come down but does not apply pressure to push down. I would be a bit concerned a little with the high oil level. You could be leaking coolant into the oil or there may be fuel in the oil from blow by. It may be worth your wile to pull and oil sample and have it analyzed. If the dip stick is popping out while the engine is running you are building pressure from some where. You may also check to see if the PCV valve is blocked or stuck. I think you rock has the spirit of Easter Island.

So far, so good Tim. Changed the oil yesterday and did some cleaning on the bottom to keep an eye on things. No popping the tube since I've had it, but I'm keeping an eye on things. Thanks for sharing your mechanic opinion/concerns. Good looking out 👍

Thank you, Andrew. Appreciate the tip. I just did the engine oil and filter this afternoon. Ran it for about an hour after and I can't find any leaking. Next up is hydraulic oil and filter. Can you recommend a good source for the filter?

Great machine. If the oil is high enough to pop the dipstick...ya don't want your main seals under any extra pressure. Sounds like it's running beautiful. Figure out how to adjust the track tension. Keeping them tensioned properly will help the longevity of the tracks. This thing is powerful enough to shoot a rock or tree limb right in the cab. Be really careful when pushing trees over or lifting heavy stuff overhead. If a big rock would break or shift or a tree snap in a funny direction....ain't no where to hide inside that cab.

Hey Steve - changed the oil yesterday and cleaned up the old stuff from the bottom shield. So far, so good. Everything is dry and it's purring nicely. I agree about that engine sound. That's one of the things that sold me on this machine. Sometimes you just have to trust your ears. Also, yes, I agree about snapping and getting wacked. If I don't see stump movement, I'm backing off.

It is almost always a good choice to add a skid steer to a farm or homestead. On tracks grading is easier as well as going over rocks without pushing them forward on the driveway like wheels. It is so much tougher than a tractor of equivalent size.

Good choice for an addition. Check locally into the price of Agriculture/off road Diesel from your local farm supply (no road tax) Without a doubt, get a manual and pay particular attention to location of grease fittings. Often an item ignored on previously owned machines.

**PRO TIP** When trying to load up the bucket obviously start at the bottom but think of yourself "shaving" material off the pile and letting it fall into the bucket. Then with the smallest amount of practice you can throw the material to the back of the bucket. That will allow you to either get more in or keep you from spilling as you travel. BTW.. When you squished the rocks down even in the driveway that's called "walking it in" and is helpful in compacting soil as well. The float function is used by most novices for back dragging but with practice you can go forward and adjust the angel of the cutting edge for shaving high spots and filling in the low to a lesser degree. Use caution letting the tracks slip. Tractor tires also for that matter. Neither are cheap as I'm sure you know. Some companies will run an operator off the first time they do it. You guys are doing great! You are all beautiful inside and out and it's a pleasure watching your progress. 😎

Jon, remove the two bolts on the bottom idler wheel cover. Inside is a grease zerk. This is the mechanism to push on the front idler wheel and increase tension. Pump in grease until there is almost no slack in the upper track. The video that I hope I don’t see you post is “trying to re-install a track”☹️. As others have said, do a service soon and note exactly the amount of oil on the dip stick. Monitor this level for a few dozen hours to make certain it does not change. Check out the length of the grapple hoses. I noticed when it was tilted all the down, the hoses appeared pretty taut. For ripping shale, a tooth bar on a short bucket would be the best bet. Come on Meg, when Jon got the art installed, we’re you tempted to say, “did dum-dum bring me gum,gum?” (Night at the Museum random reference”). Congrats, y’all, I think your subscriber base is about to double again.
@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries 2 жыл бұрын
Haha! Knocked both off in one day. The first one took an hour. The second took about 20 minutes. This machine's tension adjuster is right in the middle of the front and rear idlers. There's a tiny panel that gets removed and the grease fitting is right there. Pretty convenient vs some other brands. Needless to say, I upgraded my mini grease gun to a bigger one. I can't justify a battery operated one though. Those a ridiculously expensive.

I believe the Takeuchi has the dual flow controls on it so the machine goes from tractor to excavator control style. I don't like tractor as much as excavator because u have more control with the hands an less with the feet thing... be a while so see if google can tell you which lever back by the radiator or someplace by the pump that switches it. I've had a dozen skidsteer and loved most of them... Kubota was broken most of the time and not as much power but did ride nicest. Takeuchi was really strong and fairly dependable ... no mater what, all of the accessories is what makes them. I loved the brush hog on them but must have a windshield, no exceptions as limbs just don't taste good when force fed. A mid size excavator, and a single axle dump truck plus a tilt trail are absolute must haves.... your getting a mill for lumber right??? Of course you are as its family operated.

Have you checked out the logging track to check how steep that is compared to fighting with large rocks on the switch back virgin road. Maybe less steep slopes but longer runs between switch backs around more of the hill. Something that cars and trucks could get up without 4WD., maybe even towing the camper up to the house site. I'm a retired aussie veteran who grew up in the country and grew up in various jobs always working out the safest ways of doing things without future dangers to people and vehicles.

Consider using a strap from the center hook of bucket... wrapped around the rock and through the strap loop on one end, ultimately cinching the rock in a sling... then lift from the center hook of bucket... this will give you significant control on placing the rock (MOVE SLOW TO AVOID SWING)... but watching you place that Magnificent art Rock I was like... sling that .. could have easily picked up placed, turned, angled with this method... when done if strap is under the rock... just put one end on hook and back up slowly... should slide right out from under... I have owned allot of loaders. First things first is drive it up onto some railroad ties and remove the covers underneath and wash out the underside and inside it. Then you can start looking for problems. People forget that part all the time and the frame fills up with dirt and breaks the oil pan and ruins the engine. Do that before before you do anything.

There was 2 inches of dirt caked up in there. I did exactly that when I did the oil change. Waiting on the hydraulic filter to change that next. This machine actually takes engine oil as it's hydraulic fluid. Thought that was interesting.

@@WalnutsandWineberries yes the newer ones do take engine oil for hydraulic fluid. Don't forget to add antigel below 30 deg. Reason being is that the fuel will gel easier on a loader because all the cold air being sucked in goes over the fuel rail before going through the radiator.

I think an extreme test is boring a hole and seeing if dexpan has the strength to crack the rock unearthed, since I'm only trying to remove the top section of the rock. This is in the works and should be out as a video soon (next few episodes).

I can just see some of those big rocks you moved into place. Come the rain the mud the ice the snow and then the earth does it's little shacks that we may not feel, and some of those big rocks you have just laying on top the ground are going to be rolling right on down the side if your hill. BECAUSE you have nothing holding them where you want them... I'm sure you've seen rock slides on TV from heavy rains well that's what your building up for sooner or latter. You need to talk with some old times that know about building up road sides. Lying in the big rock is very smart it's the way your lying them in that not so good.... Just a thought... I likes your new to you toy. I'd be having me one good time on it myself... LOL

Keep watching, Bobby. You'll feel better when you see how I'm going to do it. I'm confident it won't move, especially with the clay compacted in between all the yards of fill. And if there is a natural disaster, I have the machine to fix it and have a good time.

Jon, I see there are holes on the sides of the skid loader bucket. Did it have a piranha bar on it before? You really don't need the toothbar since it has more power/weight than Ricky, but you might want the piranha straight bar to increase bucket capacity and to protect the front edge. I just got one for the RK25-arrived today. Same Skid Steer quick attach as your tractor, it sounds like. it's nice that your grapple can hook right up. Hopefully the skid steer isn't too powerful and damage the smaller grapple. Hey, No flat tires!! does it feel tippy on the hills compared to the tractor? What surprised me most isn't the skid steer but the grapple! It's really keeping up for being "inexpensive". Are you selling Ricky? You made your case on justifying the purchase! I didn't think so at first.
@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Bryce! I had the same thought about the holes on the side. Maybe there was a tooth bar there at one time. I'm going to buy a 3/4 in. cutting edge and weld it myself. The one on there is pretty thin and you can bend the bucket pretty easily if you plow into a hidden rock top. The grapple is small, but pretty great on the skid steer. I need to discipline myself to use it only for brush stuff so I don't ruin it, but you'd be amazed at how much material it picks up vs the tractor (and doesn't even flinch). As far as rollover risk, it's night and day. I can do a 180 turn on areas I would even think about making a k-turn with Ricky. Ricky's fate is undetermined. Meg likes the idea of a 2nd machine, but we agree it's mainly for the backhoe now. We could easily sell Ricky and take the cash and put it to a 35hp mini-ex and have a really nice setup. We will see...

@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The grapple is lightweight for this machine and I definitely need to discipline myself to use it for brush only. Crazy how much brush it can lift at once and not even flinch. I like I can use it on the tractor or the skid steer, but I need some heavy-duty indestructible attachments for sure.

Hi, Check the " small Tube " Coming off the "Top of the Engine / Valve Cover "? This is the " Engine Crankcase Breather Vent Tube" . This hangs down On the Side of the engine block. That "tube" Will Get plugged with dirt ( or a Wasp Nest ) . try to get a " Oil / Fluids Sample Test Kits " (Available at any Construction Equipment Dealer IE; Caterpillar, John Deere ect. ) This Machine uses 15-40 SAE Diesel Motor oil. (For Both the Engine AND Hydraulics, See Service Manual). Check the Radiator and Engine at the bottom For Dirt , Packed Up Inside!!! This can lead To "OVERHEATING"!!!! BE Careful !!!!!! Be SAFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really appreciate all your shared knowledge. I did the oil change already and I'm glad you mentioned the hydraulic oil, because that is next on my list. I was researching it yesterday and I found many different results and opinions as to what oil to use. I found it interesting that the hydraulic system uses the same oil as the engine and was wondering if Takeuchi would still recommend that for this machine with today's oil performance enhancements. It seems like TO-4 10W would be a good modern alternative, but I'm not one to go against a service manual. I thought I'd share this forum with you and maybe you could tell me your thoughts after reading if (if you want to): www.heavyequipmentforums.com/threads/takeuchi-hydraulic-fluid.76728/

Do you still have this machine? If so, has it been pretty reliable and what’s the heaviest you have lifted? Looking to use to to clear woods and unload 1800lb round bales of hay off a trailer.
@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries 7 күн бұрын
Yes, I still have it. Just got off it a few minutes ago. VERY reliable and so strong it would probably break itself if you let it. Its max lift is rated at 1600 and I've exceeded that easily I can't tell you how many times. More than likely it's only rated at 1600 because of its counterweights. I don't know exactly how much I have lifted, but I can say I grab a half cube of 80lb concrete bags (around 2000 lbs) and it doesn't feel like I'm damaging anything. You should be fine with that hay spear. Good luck!

@@WalnutsandWineberries I appreciate the info! One last thing if you don’t mind, idk what kind of deal you got on yours. I guy is offering me his on trade with cash for a tractor I have. If the value of the skid steer is $12,000 or more, I break even with what I was wanting for my tractor. It has 2,400 hours but runs great and the loader is tight and the undercarriage seems good. Can’t find many of them for sale.
@WalnutsandWineberries

I negotiated mine down to $22k. I think he was asking 25 or so. I wouldn't be concerned with hours under 3000. If you have the ability to test the machine, get it running at full throttle after it's warmed up and move the lift and bucket cylinders around. See if they wander on you under high rpms. It's a good way to check your control valves. Hope that helps.
