June-July 2024 UP Laramie & Rawlins Subs, Big Boy UP 4014, US Army Train, UP C44ACM, ES44AC, SD70AH!
On Union Pacific's transcontinental Overland Route, articulated steam locomotive 4-8-8-4 no. 4014, the Big Boy, traversed the Laramie Subdivision westbound, from Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Rawlins. On June 30, 2024, steam and diesel trains pounded across the western desert, loosely parallel to Interstate 80. At sunset, the Department of Defense (DODX) sent a train of military vehicles through Rawlins, including tanks. More UP freight trains traversed the Rawlins Subdivision the following morning, July 1st, near Daley Road west of Rawlins. Classic UP diesel locomotives included C44ACM, ES44AC, AC4400CW, AC44CCTE, SD70ACe and SD70AH units.
