Waloyo Yamoni Clip - Lyrics

This clip has been traveling around the internet lately, so I thought I’d add some lyrics! The song is Waloyo Yamoni, from my album The Drop That Contained The Sea. It’s sung in Lango, a language native to Uganda, with text taken from a rainmaking litany. This clip features ‪@royalphilorchestra‬, ‪@AngelCityChorale‬, and soloist Jimmer Bolden.

My Late Uncle was named 'Alele' (born during the heavy rainstorm) listening to this maestro and remembering him gives me goosebumps. I first encountered this clip on Instagram. The person who posted it captioned it "This Should Be The Soundtrack To Humanity". That day, I was this obsessed little thing, rolling on the floor, my skin breaking out in goosebumps over and over again. I have since listened to The Drop That Contained The Ocean and Calling All Dawns over and over and over again. Songs written in languages I'll never speak or understand, that speak to me and understand me in a way I cannot describe. I don't know if this is too much, but Christopher Tin is like a god to me. The mere fact that you exist and I can encounter you and your artistry like this means the universe has a great plan for me. The universe is saying 'Ber' to me, and will say many more in times to come. Thank you for the honor of listening to your art, Christopher.

I am crying and getting goosebumps. I love when he yells like that, you can hear he yells from the depths of the rawest, purest place in his being. And then the choir in the background and the strings backing up. This is truly inspiring. I have always loved African music, I wished for the African children's choirs album as a child and was so happy when I visited Uganda at 15. Such an amazing experience I will never forget.
