Wow. All under the baton of the great John Scott who, until his untimely death from a heart attack, was organist and choirmaster at St Thomas Episcopal Church in New York City. Prior to that, he served here at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. When he was contacted about the New York City job, he had one request of the Rector at the time…that he not be forced to “audition” or “compete”. The Rector took the contract out of his pocket for John to sign. Even as a Houstonian, I knew of his outstanding musicianship and worshipped any chance I got at St Thomas. Through coincidental scheduling, I was in NYC for his funeral at St Thomas. The congregation got to sing one hymn “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” (Blaenwern) while the St Thomas Choir of Men and Boys handle the rest (along with a few alumni from that choir). A glorious service, touched with sadness. Note here, he conducts the congregation (the choir and orchestra know what to do…ha)

+Michael Patterson He's looking for a promotion ;) Or maybe he's showing off for someone in the audience. Made me smile, for sure. But "J Russ", I seriously doubt they are "like little angels". I bet off the stage, they are your typical young boys, with all the trouble and misbehavior that automatically entails. Just because their parents got them to dress up and go sing for the choir doesn't mean they are automatically well behaved little angels. I mean, beyond the automatic innocence any child has....but most of them are getting to the age where they're getting near the cutoff point for that. Wherever that point may be....I always wondered about that. They say all children are sinless and will go to heaven, but exactly when does that expire? Does it depend of the kid? Is it sudden, or a transitional thing. Kind of interesting to think about.

When I first visited London, I went to this church 8 times in two weeks! It is just overwhelming. The wooden model downstairs is simply awesome, and it is such a pity that they did not build it the way Wren wanted it to be built. Some Canadian tourist mocked my admiration for it. Although I have met some very nice Canadians, some of them (even grown adults) seem to be always waiting to hurt the feelings of an American. A friend of mine from Seattle said it's sort of "big brother vs. little brother."

we should rather pray for all religions to unite and not to separate each themselves and pray to stop islam nationalizing and attacking everyone else outside their means. Every single religion share all the same thing and that is believing in the existence of something extraterrestial: creator of our universe, world and it's messengers that were sent here to earth and the differences between all religions are minor and only real difference is culture difference. This is only problem with the religion every single one tries to take over the world and to prove that only they are right and everyone else lies

I will bet my left nut that religions will NEVER unite. This religious division has been going on for millenia. Tons dead because they talk to the wrong God others do. And if God didnt stop them then, what makes you think he will do so tomorrow? This is an honest question. If you dont know, that's fine. Just my observation.

If Christ were alive he would have probably hated being called Lord or King.

@@aslscott78Sorry, but that sounds racist af ☹. You can have a different opinion, but this really is just a stupid and racist comment.

Everyone is most certainly allowed an opinion on taste, but for the life of me, I can't fathom how 165+ folks nixed this piece. IMHO, this rendition is so spectacular in any sense. Gorgeous. Thumbs up from this dude.

The Methodist revival inspired such beautiful hymns. This is just one of Charles Wesley's masterpiece. He would give the glory to God who is the source of all good things. Glory to the King of kings.

Samuel Sebastian Wesley, related to Charles and John, was an Anglican cathedral (Winchester ??) organist-choirmaster who wrote a great hymntune, "Aurelia," usually set with the words "The Church's one foundation...."

I agree. I was raised Catholic, but love hymns by Wesley, and have heard a couple of them used at Catholic masses because the spirit of them is totally "catholic". Many think that Wesley composed all of the music used for his hymns, but that isn't true. The music that we hear now was adapted from a work by Mendelssohn. My favorite setting for "O, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing" was composed by Thomas Jarman, a tailor. Also, the original music that Wesley used for "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" was actually quite somber, not joyous.
