I have many books about Mickey Mouse, because he is my favourite cartoon character. But this book is the most inclusive book about Mickey Mouse. The book is edited by Daniel Kohtenschulte who also edited the Taschen book The Walt Disney Film Archives The Animated Movies 1921-1968. I already made a video about that book and I will leave a link to that video below this video. The two authors that worked on this book have written a lot of books about animation and Disney animation.David Gerstein and J.B. Kaufman. They were able to write a thorough history about Mickey Mouse. The book has 496 pages and weighs 12.5 Pounds. The book is so big that I had to lay it down on the ground so I could film it. As with all Taschen books the design and binding of the books are astounding.
The book is divided in three era’s: The Golden Age, The Silver Age ad the Modern Age. Every era has it’s own design with a circle cut-out. It is these little visual what makes the design of this book special.
What I love about this book are the photo spreads that show a lot of details that you won’t find in any other book. It shows all kinds of artwork. From modelsheets, to storyboards, backgrounds, movie posters and poster cards. Through the pictures you get a better idea of the time the movies were released in the thirties. It shows other artwork of Mickey for advertisements, comics and merchandise.

Jus bought this amazing book at a 1/3 of the price through Taschen. Worth every cent. Just make sure you have a big enough table (preferably with a stand...) and good lighting. I only regret the book doesn't mention the last comic adaptations for the french market and the new animation series.

There are three chapters in the large edition that do not appear in the small edition. Two of them are "Mickey in the Air" and "Unfinished Rhapsodies". I would like to know what these two chapters are about (I am thinking about which edition of the book to buy).

Mickey on Air shows artwork that was made for the promotion of Mickey Mouse on the radio in the 1930s. It is 8 pages. Unfinished Rhapsodies shows 55 pages of artwork of preliminary sketches and artwork of Mickey Mouse shirts that were never made.

I’ve bought this book today for €20,00. There’s also a version for €107,- (Euro’s). With a cardboard case. Is there a difference in size? Don’t care much about the case.
