Thank -you for posting. People below said the budget must've been low for this special. Not necessarily true. You have to understand that these three people were hugely popular at that time. Tommy Tune was a player in music, Lyle Waggoner was on both Wonder Woman & the Carol Burnett Show & Lucie Arnez as host; you couldn't ask for more than the daughter of Hollywood royalty (Lucille Ball & Desi Arnez). What may seem cheesy to some now was considered top entertainment then. It was a different time. Someday in the future people will look at what we think of as good now & judge it with the same condescension that others have shown for this video.

Christopher G Me too. The imagination seems to be disappearing from kids. They have everything at their fingertips so they don't need to pretend; ;it can all be simulated. I would rather watch old shows any day than the drivel that passes for modern tv.

So after paying for the talent they didn’t have enough money for film. Norman Lear’s penny-pinching ways had a ripple effect on the rest of television, and Disney paid the price most of all.

Tommy Tune was artist Ambrose Kemper in 1969's "Hello Dolly" -- he was romancing Horace Vandergelder's (Walter Matthau) niece (oh, yeah... his hair was a bit shorter, however. LOL). At 15:30 is the old tune "Holiday for Strings" (written by David Rose). Comedian Red Skelton used it as his theme for his TV show in the 50s/60s.

People who think this is "Cheesy" or a cheap production, persay, are obviously measuring it against how we think of tv today. You have to remember when this was done, 1975. Tv in the mid 70s was filled with this genre, called "The Variety Show". Some like this, were "variety specials" and then others were weekly shows. Disney had a number of these, back then, featuring aspects of their parks, be it a ride Grand Opening like this, their parks' landmark anniversaries, Christmas time in the parks etc. They were all shown as just another episode of the weekly "Wonderful World of Disney" shows that was on NBC in those days (ABC in the 60s, CBS for a while in the 80s) Remember too, that these were done in a time when there was a MUCH finer line between "family" oriented, and "adult" oriented television. Disney went after entertainment that was going to be appropriate for "the whole family" whether is was Lucy Arnaz, Lyle Waggoner, or those I remember on their other specials, such as Danny Kaye, Jamie Farr, etc. or the original Mousekateers all grown up. All the specials were done in the park and very often interacted with characters with musical numbers or "story line"... Disney wasn't into such heavy rock and pop back then. The Disney Channel and Radio Disney were still years away. Lets see, should they have gotten Black Sabbath, or Kiss (some of the biggest rock names of 1975)? I don't think that would have been a great idea, back then. Even the big awards shows (Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, Tonys etc..) were a lot less of a production than they are now. Disney was developing its (only 2) parks, the toys and kids records that they sold in stores, the movies et.. but wasn't AS BIG a media $$$$$$ mogul as it is today. Look at their "original versions" of some of the movies they've "re-done". The original Freaky Friday didn't have Jody Foster as a lead guitarist of a heavy rock band, but in the 2000s that idea, with Lindsay Lohan, worked. Disney wasn't about that kind of production in the 70s and earlier. Their other "family movies" of the 70s (The Herbie movies, The Apple Dumpling Gang, Pete's Dragon, etc...were not so over produced either. They didn't start getting REALLY BIG til Michael Eisner etc.. and when it comes down to it, many think that HE wasn't what Uncle Walt would have wanted.

Tommy Tune was a big name on Broadway too at this time. And for those who have reminded all of us that 1975 is not 2018 - thank you. Think Lawrence Welk and all of the other variety shows back in the 1960’s and 70’s. Times have changed.

Will the Walt Disney television weekly series started on ABC from the mid 50's to the early 60's. and then in the fall of 1961 the Walt Disney television weekly series went into NBC for 20 years and then they finally went into CBS for the fall of 1981 to the spring of 1983 so yep

I can hardly wait till we CELEBRATE JESUS! HALLELUJAH! 🙏🙌 Disney knew how to celebrate down here! When I rode Space Mountain in 1980 with my 10 year old son, I had NO idea all THIS had opened that ride! They should have had a video of the dedication playing! AMAZING!

What do you want, Shakespeare? It's an hour-long infomercial for a theme park, with C-list celebrities and made in an era when Disney entertainment was sanitized and out of touch with society.

If you knew what society was like in the 1970s, you’d understand why Disney wanted to be out of touch with it and why in hindsight they were right.

The Disney budget for hiring talent must have been pretty low. The 70's were tough times. Kudos to Luci but man...the rest of them....ouch!

It was also cheaper to use videotape than film, Rex. They used videotape to produce "THE NEW MICKEY MOUSE CLUB" (1977-'79), too.

I'm sorry, but the music was just so bad in the seventies and it reflects in the music used for this special. Great for nostalgia though.
