Thanks for the great episode guys. I love the Simonson/Goodwin Manhunter. The final Manhunter story is from a collection released after Archie Godwin’s death. That’s why there’s no dialogue in the last story. Simonson wasn’t comfortable with having someone other than Goodwin script a Paul Kirk story.

I have a reprint of this story from the 80s, and seeing the Artist’s Edition makes me see this work, and Simonson, in a brand new way. Really stunning. Artist’s Editions are just amazing. Thanks for spotlighting this.

That 100 Page Cover was by Jim Aparo, not Simonson

I love Walt Simonson. Nearly unmatched for his ability to infuse his cartoons with energy and motion while maintaining a clear narrative.

Beautiful work! I read all of these books off the newsstand Goodwin & Simonson fast paced short stories jammed with action! There wasn’t anything like this especially in mainstream comics! Cathedral Perilous has always stood out for me by itself,a helluva lot of story in 8 pages! Amazing! Also nice to see other 70’s one and done tales! I believe that Metal Men is his first on going series! Later ,Walter popped over to Marvel to do B&W Rampaging Hulk with Alfredo Alcala! Nice variety of characters/stories throughout the decade !❤️👍😎👋

Always a great look at (a sadly, very out of print) Manhunter artist's edition. Yet another one I hope IDW bring out in artisan format, though I wish that for all of their editions !

You know I forgot about the Manhunter back ups. I definitely would want to revisit a trade or this artist edition.

That silhouette does looks a lot like FM, and I was also thinking FM cribbed the "throwing star on a nipple" (a la Elektra Lives Again) from this. 😆

Definitely see some Nino in Walt's work. Kirby too. I think we all wear our influences on our sleeves

Wasn’t Walt Simonson influenced by Sergio Toppi?

that's what I was thinking when they were talking about the interesting line work. Looked a lot like Toppi.

Check out the Simonson Star Wars AE. So good. Walt with Tom Palmer is unbeatable...possibly the best art of the entire 70s-80s Marvel SW series.
