Walter Keeler is a British studio potter, born in London in 1942. He attended Harrow School of Art, London where he was trained by Michael Casson. He established his first pottery at Bledlow Bridge, Buckinghamshire in 1965 then moved to his current studio in Penallt Wales, where he lives with his potter wife Madoline. He was professor of Ceramics at the University of the West of England and in 2007 was named Welsh Artist of the Year. www.goldmarkart.com
Keeler makes salt glaze pottery influenced by early Staffordshire Creamware. Writer Oliver Watson described him as 'one of the most important and influential potters of the 1980s'. Keeler's work is held in a number of public collections including Victoria & Albert Museum, National Museum Wales, American Craft Museum, New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, USA and the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.

I was lucky to have Wally Keeler as my tutor at UWE and his guidance was invaluable not just in clay but also in life too. I still am passionate about ceramics and all that goes with it. Thank you Wally, if you read this.

I heard several years ago that the art school system in the Uk had changed in the way. Walter describes here. Students have to write complex essays instead of learning arts or crafts. Which is heartbreaking for real students who want to learn art . As an art student in l975 we had so little attention from our tutors that many students left out of boredom, For my final exam I was threatened I would fail by the assesor from London because my work was a critisism of the art school system. Minimilism at the time was in vogue which to me was the' Emperors new clothes' in most cases.. I greatly admire Walter Keeler's pots for years and wish I had had a teacher like him. Instead I taught myself pottery after I left art school which was difficult. As Walter says, students are being robbed, not only are the art courses expensive, but they don't teach art. Academia is not art, it's a shame.

Thank you for this soul filling series! This series is the most fulfilling I have found. As a former student at Alfred, living very rurally, this is the best series I have found, bringing it all alive again. Thank you!

That was eating and drinking for my creative clay soul. Plus now I realise I must own a Keeler pot, even if it’s only a mug, though my eyes cry out for the branchy stuff. Top work Mr Keeler and Goldmark!

En algún momento entre 6000 y 4000 A.C., se inventó el primer torno de alfarero en Mesopotamia. Esto provocó una revolución en la forma en que los pueblos antiguos podían crear objetos de arcilla.
