8 years ago I was a 29 year old adult who never took a physics class in my life and happened to watch one of his lectures some random late night. I ended up watching the entire semester of lectures, and eventually watched every physics lecture I could find before going back to college as a freshman in physics. I ended up publishing three papers in atomic physics and leaving with a Masters in physics 3 years ago. Not sure if he'll ever see this post, but my life is very different today because of Walter Lewin

This was his last demonstration at the end of his last lecture before retiring - hence the applause from such a full hall. He is a great man, but made some grave errors which MIT investigated concerning online messages to female students. Whilst it was wrong, I believe no-one was 'damaged for life' by his actions, as some posters below seem to compare with others who caused such. fitforlife95 Walter Lewin was a wonderful Physics professor at MIT for many years (and you can find 3 courses worth of his lectures here on KZbin). This clip is from his last lecture ever, filmed in the same room that he had done all of his other lectures in. He's very emotional because of this.
@ottrovgeisha21508 жыл бұрын
+Rathalos But this is not his last lecture for ever. He did several lectures after that and if I am not mistaken, even in that very room. I love prof Lewin, but I was disappointed about that decision I must admit. It became one of the "going on pension 7 times in a row with a tearful eye" things, just like some rock stars or movie stars tend to do. And sadly, the new lectures are not as good as the old ones were, many of them were just repetitions of the old ones, with no new insights. He did not do justice to himself with that decision. This is of course, my subjective opinion, I may be wrong. I wondered, however, what prompts a person to do something that will obviously not be as good as it used to be... so that was a bit of a disappointment for me.
@ottrovgeisha21508 жыл бұрын
+Omar Shahpo I think it came later, he sort of decided to go "on pension" way before that. He made this tearful farewell lecture and then "presto" he was back. Those sexual harrasment accusations when he was BACK again, after the farewell lecture. In that same so-called "last lecture", one can clearly see that his health isn't as good as it used to be, so the decision to go on pension may have been absolutely separate one from any abuse stuf.
