Walter Murch: Hollywood Sound Design

As a film editor and sound designer, Walter Murch has worked on classic films of our time, including Apocalypse Now, The Godfather, and The English Patient, among many more. The winner of multiple Academy Awards, Murch, with his technological know-how, has helped to elevate the art and impact of film sound to a new level. His latest projects, which include editing Phil Kaufman's Hemingway & Gellhorn and directing an episode of Lucasfilm's animated Clone Wars, are quintessential Murch: eclectic, distinctive, and visionary. In conversation with Lawrence Weschler, CHF artistic director emeritus, Murch discusses the evolution of film technology from the creation of the 5.1 sound format to today's Final Cut Pro.

Hi! Congrats!!! Nice video!! I'd like to know how to make my voice sounds like I were under the water, in distance, on the telephone, using a mask, high above the mountain , inside a coffin, behind the door, in a church, robot voice.. etc. How to modifying the sound of the voice according to the ambient/atmosphere? What kind of software should I use? How can I learn to make voice effects? What name of the person who work with sound effects? I would like to learn all about this to improve my fandubs! :) Thanks.

Yep, with respect, he seems preoccupied with remaining "the boss" and keeping Walter in the back seat but this doesn't allow Murch the freedom or confidence to do what he does best. Frustrating experience given the high production values.

Ironically the sound quality is crap, poorly miked, the House PA system is so badly equalized and far too high in the mix, that the same frequencies keep ringing and ringing in the background is the guy asleep, I've heard better quality on local High School plays The Irony is incomprehensible.
