Thank goodness Walter didn’t fall for this and also it’s crazy how he looked at the broken plate for a second and felt something was fishy.

I don't think he had any idea that Walt would faint causing the plate to break but yes he definitely improvised as soon as the plate was broken in front of him. Probably one of my favorite scenes in any TV show. It was just the scene that really hooked me into this show. The show felt like GTA up to this point. This is the point where the gravity of the situation they were in really hit.

This little detail he noticed was the point I knew this series was going to be awesome. It was so realistic and also by watching Breaking Bad you somehow feel smarter. It's like your brain is actively engaged in every little thing that's going on.

Absolutely fantastic edit. Best I’ve seen. I love this episode, we see Walter’s real struggle here with what to do. He really wants to let him live, but when he finds that there is a missing piece it breaks his heart and shows the darkness that is in the world he’s in and he has a tough choice to make. He takes a small step into becoming what he will become later. His emotions are on point here in Cranston’s acting here. He truly is a phenomenal actor.

That shot of Walter at the top of the stairs is so ominous and terrifying. It foreshadows the inner darkness that he has to begin harnessing in order to run with the wolves. While looking into that abyss of the basement, the darkness is looking back into Walt quite literally as shadows obscure him. He has to become a monster to fight other monsters.

You can really see Jesse's knowledge kick in for Walt here. IIRC Jesse mentioned how, in a situation where you're held captive, one of the first few things you'll do is look for a weapon to defend yourself with. Like "Criminals 101 with Jesse Pinkman". And it was fantastic foreshadowing to this moment right here.

If Walter let Krazy go he would have killed Walter though. That is why Krazy had that broken piece of plate under his shirt, so as soon as Walter let Krazy go he would have died. So it was either his life or Krazy’s life. So no, both wouldn’t have been fine.
