Almost dropped what I was eating when the question what does it mean to walk in the spirit came up. I was asking God that question yesterday and today just finished reading through Galatians. I like the verse professor went to Col 1:27. After that the Spirit led me to earlier in Galatians 3:2 and Romans 8:5 and 10:17. We receive the Spirit through hearing the word of God. It would be very nice if Amazing Discoveries would put these out as a series...maybe 10 in a series. Living in America in a rural area with limited options for the internet...it is hard to watch w/o constantly having to try to catch up...We've purchased most ( if not all) of Prof. Veith's DVDs and have watched them many times over the years...each time learning or understanding more as our Christian walk has grown. We have watched Total Onslaught playing out...especially recently ... and knew enough not to get caught up in the political theater....and other traps we have not fallen into because we knew signs to look for. So many thanks... Anyway...I believe many would like to have a "hard copy" to have for further study ...I know we would...we are old and sometimes it takes a while to sink in. Please consider it....It would be a great service for us slow of learning. The Fundamental Belief in Question is number 24. Not only does it give us the statement, but it gives us key verses to establish this belief. With that, I have evaluated every verse mentioned in the document and am still waiting for an answer. Here is the Fundamental Belief Statement and my response to each verse it provides. And yet, my question still stands. I find no Biblical foundation for Belief 24 outside of simply stating that yes, there is a Heavenly Sanctuary. And yes, Christ is our High Priest. And yes, it is His blood being used in this Sanctuary. And yes, there will be a judgment. A connection between the 2300 days ending in 1844 causing a transition from the Holy into the Most Holy remains unseen, which is something that the 24th Fundamental Belief clearly claims. 24: Christ’s Ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary There is a sanctuary in heaven, the true tabernacle that the Lord set up and not humans. In it Christ ministers on our behalf, making available to believers the benefits of His atoning sacrifice offered once for all on the cross. At His ascension, He was inaugurated as our great High Priest and, began His intercessory ministry, which was typified by the work of the high priest in the holy place of the earthly sanctuary. In 1844, at the end of the prophetic period of 2300 days, He entered the second and last phase of His atoning ministry, which was typified by the work of the high priest in the most holy place of the earthly sanctuary. It is a work of investigative judgment which is part of the ultimate disposition of all sin, typified by the cleansing of the ancient Hebrew sanctuary on the Day of Atonement. In that typical service the sanctuary was cleansed with the blood of animal sacrifices, but the heavenly things are purified with the perfect sacrifice of the blood of Jesus. The investigative judgment reveals to heavenly intelligences who among the dead are asleep in Christ and therefore, in Him, are deemed worthy to have part in the first resurrection. It also makes manifest who among the living are abiding in Christ, keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and in Him, therefore, are ready for translation into His everlasting kingdom. This judgment vindicates the justice of God in saving those who believe in Jesus. It declares that those who have remained loyal to God shall receive the kingdom. The completion of this ministry of Christ will mark the close of human probation before the Second Advent. (Lev. 16; Num. 14:34; Ezek. 4:6; Dan. 7:9-27; 8:13, 14; 9:24-27; Heb. 1:3; 2:16, 17; 4:14-16; 8:1-5; 9:11-28; 10:19- 22; Rev. 8:3-5; 11:19; 14:6, 7; 20:12; 14:12; 22:11, 12.) Lev. 16 - the people aren’t forgiven until after the scapegoat is let loose in the wilderness, symbolizing Satan’s assent into the bottomless pit for 1,000 years. How does this correspond with the timeline that Fundamental Belief 24 establishes? The goat is released into the earth (bottomless pit) in verse 10, and it isn’t until verse 14 that we see Aaron in the Most Holy place. Num. 14:34 - This only establishes the day year principle and does not address the transition between the Holy and the Most Holy. Ezekiel 4:6 - Same here. This is only the establishment of the day year principle and has no bearing on a transition between compartments for Christ in 1844. Dan. 7:9-27 - this is only validation of the day year principle in regard to the 1260 days. No relation to a transition between the Holy and Most Holy in Heaven in 1844. Verses 26 and 27 mention the judgment, but it only speaks of the Final Second Death, No relation there either. Dan. 8:13-14 - Again no mention. Still, the end of the 2300 days gives no mention of Priestly transition at this stage. Dan. 9:24-27 - This is the 70 weeks, giving us insight into the time at which Christ would come and the message would go forth to the entire world. Still, no relation to the statement made in the 24th Fundamental Belief that in 1844 Christ transitioned from one compartment to another. Heb. 1:3 - Christ sits next to God. Again no Sanctuary statements made here. Heb. 2:16 - Establishes that Christ is the High Priest. Again, no 2300 day Most Holy transition mentioned. Heb. 4:14-16 - Same as 2:16, this only establishes that He is the Heavenly High Priest. No transition. Heb. 8:1-5 - Again, same pattern. Christ is sitting next to God. He is the High Priest serving in the Heavenly as Aaron did on earth. No mention of a transition in service placement or transition thereof. Heb. 9:11-28 - Yet again the same. Yes, Christ is the High Priest. Yes, it is Christ’s blood in the Heavenly that was presented as the offering rather than that of animals. The only mention of judgment here is actually after a man has died. No mention of a transition from one compartment to the other related to the 2300 days of Daniel. Heb. 10:19- 22 - This passage actually contradicts the SDA teaching on this transition from the Holy into the Most Holy in 1844. Because, as we see in Lev. 16 Aaron sprinkled blood on the mercy seat in the Most Holy after the scapegoat was cast into the wilderness. And yet, here in Hebrews it states that Christ has already entered into the Holiest while simultaneously mentioning the word sprinkling in verse 22. This is an absolute contradiction to the first three sentences of the 24th Fundamental Belief. Rev. 8:3-5 - I see no relevance here to the question other than yes, there is Heavenly Service. Rev. 11:19 - Again, yes there is a Heavenly Sanctuary. That point is abundantly clear. But there is no foundation in this verse for the first three sentences of the 24th Fundamental Belief of the Church. Rev. 14:6-7 - Yes, God’s judgment message gets sent forth to all the earth. What support is this for Fundamental belief 24? Revelation 20:12 - This passage not only contradicts Fundamental Belief 24, but shows that all the dead are standing during this judgment process before the judge and during a span of time starting in 1844 before they have the change to stand there. This then must be the judgment of the lost. Rev. 14:12 - Keep the commandments. Got it. Not relevant to the question I am asking. Rev. 22:11-12 - This passage shows a close of probation much like that of the 70 weeks for the Jews at the stoning of Stephen. But, how is this foundation for a transition from the Holy into the Most Holy in 1844 as Fundamental Belief 24 clearly states? His reward is with Him indicating a pre-advent judgment of the saved. But, still… what connection does this role play in switching from the Holy into the Most Holy?

Hello brother. I think the answer you look for is in Daniel 8: 14 where it says that *after* the 2300 days the Sanctuary is cleansed. The cleansing of the earthly sanctuary always took place in the day of atonement. Since we know there is a Heavenly Sanctuary, and that there is a service there as well, then we know the cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary must be related to what the day of atonement is. And obviously this passage must be referring to the Heavenly Sanctuary, not the earthly one. Now, who was the one who performed the cleansing ritual? The high priest. There you have the type of the Lord Christ. Since He is the High Priest in the Heavenly Sanctuary, then He is the one who does the cleansing. Also remember that the only time of the year when the Holy of Holies could be accessed was on the day of atonement. So, if the Lord is doing the cleansing of the Sanctuary, then it must mean we are on the typical day of atonement and He is in the Holy of Holies. If you want an explicit Bible verse where it says "the Lord moved from the Holy place to the Most Holy place", you won't find one. You have to discern it from what is given and what the Lord tells you via prayer. I also want to tell you that in Hebrews 9: 12 and Hebrews 10: 19 there is a mistranslation, even in the KJV. The word there in greek is not the one used for Holy of Holies (Ἅγια ἁγίων - Hagia Hagion, basically the word "holy" repeated), the word used in Hebrews 9: 12 and 10: 19 is "hagia" in 9: 12 and "hagion" in 10: 19. Only one word, which means it is talking about the Holy place, NOT the Holy of Holies.

Blessings Brother Martin and Pastor Veith. I was instructed to comment on your take on the question posed on 1 Peter 3 about Jesus preaching to the spirits in prison. There were two aspects of the death of Jesus. The "cut (ting) off" {Daniel 9:26} of Jesus from the Father is how He paid for sins. He had to pay what every man would suffer without Him. He did not suffer in the flames, only the extreme agony of being cut off from the source of life. It was such agony that He sweat blood. This is the first phase of His death, represented by fashioning the serpent to hang on the pole, and it represents the second resurrection. The Desire of Ages testifies that the sign of the Dove appeared over Jesus after His agony and baptism in blood before they took Him to the cross. The second phase of His death was the physical death on the cross which is symbolic of the second death. Both of these elements are included in the three days three nights Sign of Jonah. So we need to present both of these to really answer the question on the subject. Many biblical symbols are represented here, such as the Red Heifer which was "slaughtered in that very spot" (Spurgeon) in Gethsemane, where Jesus sweat blood over every inch of His body for receiving our sins upon His head. The Testimonies call this sacrifice His second baptism or His "Baptism in blood" as the Desire of Ages puts it, where the sign of the dove was also seen as it was at His first Baptism. This same issue was the first thing that Peter Preached about on Pentecost in Acts 2:31 "He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, NEITHER his flesh did see corruption." These are the two phases of His death which directly deal with the three days and three nights sign of Jonah. His soul was not left in hell, meaning being cut off from the Father, experiencing our second death outside the gate, NEITHER did His body begin to decompose in the grave, the corruption of the flesh deals with His stay in the grave. So what I am trying to convey is this. The key to that whole subject of 1 Peter 3 is at the beginning of verse eighteen "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins.." "By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison". The structure of the verse proves this. So what is trying to be conveyed here is the process of the Atonement. To bring a sacrifice to the Eastern Gate of Eden (Gethsemane) and lay your hands on His head, confessing your sins, then SEE Him carry those sins to the cross to die with them. This is the Atonement. I have a question about something that was said in this chapter : Where in the bible do we find the statement that every one has been written specifically in the book of life? As an adventist I have always heard that those who accept Christ and get baptised become part of this book and that we all , according to our deeds, could eventually be erased from the book. Been watching the What's Up Prof starting from the 1st episode and have thoroughly enjoyed and learned from them all. But in this current one I respectfully disagree on the question when will Satan impersonate Jesus before or after the close of probation. I believe that in Matthew 24 Jesus states that Satan will masquerade as Jesus after the close of probation. In Matthew 24 the last days are in chronological order. The word "then" is used seven times. In verse 21 Jesus states the great tribulation begins, as we know this is the close of probation. 'Then' in verse 23,24, and 26 Jesus describes Satan in action. And in verse 27 Jesus describes His Return in verity. Why does Satan wait till after the close of probation, I have no idea as to why. Thank you for all you and Martin do for the body of Christ.

Please elaborate when you say that everyone's name is in the book of life? Isn't it ONLY those who have accepted Christ's atoning sacrifice and all those who has ever entered into the service of God who's name is in the book of life? Disappointed: I am the one that has been asking about the investigative judgment every week. And sadly, my question was not answered at all. I already know that judgment takes place before the second coming. My question is for you to show me from scripture the following; in what way does the cleansing of the Heavenly Sanctuary considered the start date for this investigation? The end of the 2300 days of Daniel line up with the 70 weeks as seen in Daniel 8 and 9. But, how can we affirm from scripture as Adventist that the investigation is a starting point of 1844. I see no “start date” for any such investigation. And yet, we as Adventists attach it to the cleansing of the sanctuary. That is my question. How is 1844 the start of this investigation from scripture?

There is a book every Seventh-day Adventist should have and read titled Daniel and the Revelation by Uriah Smith. That book will answer your question. The short answer is found in Daniel 8:14 where it says, "Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." The question then is, what is the starting point. That is answered Daniel 9:25 where it says, "Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times." Both the 2,300 days and the 70 week prophecy started when Cyrus commanded that Jerusalem be rebuilt in 457 B.C. Doing the math from when Cyrus' decree was made to 2,300 years later takes you to the fall of 1844. To understand what the cleansing of the sanctuary means, you need to know a bit about the Jewish sacrificial system. Every year, on the Day of Atonement, all the confessed sins of Israel that had accumulated symbolically in the tabernacle or temple were put on the head of the scapegoat, representing Satan, which was then sent into the wilderness to die. In that way the sanctuary was cleansed. In 1844 Jesus Christ, our high priest, entered the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary to review the lives of all who had ever been entered into the Book of Life. If, after review (an act of judgment), unconfessed sins are found, that name is blotted out of the Book of Life. The sins of the righteous will be put on Satan and he will bear the punishment for them. That is the way the heavenly sanctuary is cleansed.

I will try to answer. When you are reading Dan 8, he is in vision about the Goat and the Ram. In verse 14 of course it talks about the 2300 days, in verse 15 it starts talking about Daniel being overwhelmed and not understanding what it all meant and it talks about him praying to understand. In Chapter 9 his prayer for understanding is answered. in this chapter Gabriel tells him the beginning of the whole prophecy as well as adding in the 70 weeks to the beginning because Daniel was disturbed thinking his people might be in bondage for very long time more. As you know the 70 weeks is just the beginning of the 2300 day prophecy so when that began, so did the 2300 days. 70 weeks were just (determined or cut off) appointed for the Jews at the beginning of that time. The command to rebuild and restore Jerusalem began in 457. Some people use other start dates like 444 because there were other commands given that they could rebuild the temple but it was just the temple or a restatement of the command given in 457. That command gave them permission to reinabuild not only the temple but to set up their form of government. I think you might find an better and fuller explanation if you watch a segment from the total onslaught series called 1844 & the Final Onslaught. It is number 232B.
