2002 or 03, I walked into The Hangar Bar, a gay joint on Christopher Street in New York. The crowd was a third black, a third Latin, a third whatever. Kings of Comedy was playing on the TVs at full blast. The entire bar was standing in rapt delight, laughing. But they completely exploded during this set. I've never seen a crowd so tuned into a performance-- not even during the Super Bowl. Never been in a room where everybody was hanging on the next word, everybody laughed together at the same times. It was amazing. And hilarious.
