Appreciate that you did this. I was looking to upgrade from my homemade forge and did a lot of research, including looking close at all the Vevor options. In the end I spent the extra $100 and went with a Devil-Forge 2 burner with one door. All the flaws you pointed out on the Vevor forge area addressed on the one I ordered and it should be amazing. Plus it was only 7 days to ship free all the way from Lithuania!

I built a very similar forge as an enthusiast and can confirm all of your comments on this one. The burners turning into chimneys was a new one on me though O_O That said, I built a three-burner because I didn't know any better and have mostly noticed that it's too big and has too much volume for most of the piddly knives and blacksmithing I've done so far. Good tip on getting a better regulator too. I have the same little cheap one and it leaves a lot to be desired. All that said, mine totally works and this one does too. I learned a lot building mine, but also spent way more than two-hundred bucks. So it was more about the learning than the money for me. If someone just wants to jump in, seems like they could do worse than one of these. Thanks for reviewing all these inexpensive options, Walter - It's been illuminating!

5:13 You are supposed to close the choke when burner is not in use to avoid it.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised with Vevor products... I think you did a review on the 2 * 72 from them. Out of curiosity, I was just wondering if you ever use it and or if it's still running.

I've brought a few bits from Vevor and they are above average at a good price.

Hello, Could you recommend a forge to make Damascus steel with the appropriate gas consumption?

I bought a Vevor two-burner as an emergency backup forge, and couldn't agree more about applying Satinite before using it. Don't know what the properties of the fibers inside are, don't want to find out via a lung X-Ray.

With 1084 or 1095 would you quench then forge or is there another way to do it
@kevincervantes2 ай бұрын
Quenching/Hardening should occur after forging. Since you are going to forge it, you could anneal first to release any internal stress and soften the material, but it's not necessarily needed.

@@kevincervantes ok so I know someone who does stock removal but puts a forge finish on the knife , how is that done ?
@Dreweldeenknives2 ай бұрын
Like a carbon steel with a completely dark gun metal sort of look

He uses 01 and had a process he does but hasn’t demonstrated or said how so I was just wondering how that is done
@kevincervantes2 ай бұрын
@Dreweldeenknives if it's only a surface finish, I can think of two options. 1. He puts the knife blank in a forge to build up the scale. 2. Acid/chemical wash.

Why is your gas bottle in a tub of water?
@kevincervantes2 ай бұрын
It is used for "freeze protection/prevention". Propane is a gas. As it expands, it cools. Forging requires a high volume of propane, which causes the volume of gas in the tank to decrease. Cold propane burns less efficiently.

A Real man can make Any tool work. I get tired of watching dudes complain about having to use tools that aren't the Expensive Name brand ones. Harbor freight is great, if you actually know how to do real work. I used a 20 dollar sawzall to cut through tree roots so we could dig a trench and it cuts while covered in mud and still works. Those Glorious battery tools y'all pay 100s of dollars for wouldn't still work after that job.
