Hello and welcome. Today we take a look at the ‪@Waltherarms‬ PDP Pro SD Compact. Not long ago I published a video on the full-size brother and loved it. The compact, I like it even more. This is one amazing polymer handgun.
Note: I don't know how, but I lost the shooting video footage of the PDP Pro SD. But trust me, it is a laser beam.
I look forward to your comments and please hit the subscribe button if you feel that I have earned it.
Thank you for stopping by and God Bless.

@LUCKY5000able from the factory they come with an 18 pound spring. The ZR tactical is a 13 pound spring but you can also put a 15 pound spring. Personal preference. For me the 13 pound has worked wonderfully.

Yes but…. There is no magazine stopper in the gun like a Glock. This is why you can fire a g17 mag in a g26. If the bottom of mag does not make contact with the frame of the pistol it is stopped by the ejector. So by not using the aluminum base plates for this mag you can damage your ejector by slamming a mag in.

I've been researching both full size and compact pro HD and I'm pulling my hair out trying to decide. I've handled both versions of the standard PDP 4" at the store,, compact felt good although part of my hand would roll off the bottom of the grip but I was able to get my fingers all in place so I contemplated going with the full size which felt good too but then again I want to carry too so......?¿😵‍💫😆 (Btw first handgun, I'm only 58 hard to believe I know but now money is tight. I've already had 3 back surgeries two were fusions therefore now I think it's time to have something to back up my 6'3" hobbled frame.)✌🏼

yeah but.. .. . but if you never run hot loaded ammo or a suppressor, you wont need the 18lb spring. I pretty much immediately went with the Factory Walther upgraded 50N Tungsten guide rod and whatever spring comes on it. some say it's the same spring already in the PDP. looks identical but felt every so slightly lighter. I know people are saying 50N translates to 11.24 lbs but I think that's the wrong conversion. no way it's that light as that would feel like a significant difference.

This gun doesn’t compensate well.. tbh idk why you would want to cause unless you run +p pressure heavy grain ammo you’re not really gaining anything from a comp.. you can get a little help with hot 115g rounds but tbh most of those are low powder and low pressure trying type rounds mostly.. The lack of a good oring on the cap drives me completely nuts.. I used vise grips and cranked the hell out of mine and it has been ok now.. As for the spring idk what you’re referencing.. I have the full size version so maybe it’s a little different? But the stock spring is a 12lb spring and the green suppressor spring they send is a 15lb spring. You did nothing but swap the same weight wiring for a ss rod which this is such an over hyped thing by people.. the glocks been running plastic rods of less quality then this one for a long time and enough proven rounds count wise wo a single issue I’ve every seen or heard of where you’re needing to replace it anyways do round count way before it breaks. The reason companies are moving to polymer rods is because it does help reduce recoil a little much like poly Lee frames because it flexes a little and absorbs some of the force.. I don’t run the magwell on mine cause I compete with it.. the entire over insertion thing is highly over stated.. you would have to really hammer the mags in there.. the thing you gain is the Glock like mag change where it releases the slide on its own when you modestly inset the mag.. The best thing I can say to do to these is to add a brass back strap.. yeah not legal for my comps but they make black ones 😅 haven’t been caught yet.. but that little extra weight in hand really takes this pistol that extra little bit.. I get 25y fist size bill drills with that setup.. One complaint I have.. I wear small gloves.. very small hands.. never did I have last round lock issues with my PPQ’s but I get a failure to lock every single time with this gun.. I have a very aggressive grip and maybe the design of this allows me to get just a little higher up then on a ppq or p99? Idk but I’ve not had a single lock back in the entire time I’ve owned mine.. some of that might be cause I’m mostly using +3 plates to get to 21 rounds with the factory springs still for comps but I still have the factory flush fitting 18’s and the 18’s with the factory alum pads.. they don’t lock either.. but my slide is and has always been super easy and soft compared to say my 4” ppq which has 10’s of thousands more rounds through it then my pdp does.. and this slide with factory spring is as soft as my m92 on about 50k rounds.. way beyond do for a recoil spring replacement on that gun but till it has issues I’ll run what I got cause it’s so light.. this one is just as good as that one out the box.. only going to get better over time.. One think I will say.. idc if you think you need or want the pro SD version or not.. you do.. I’ve been competing for 20 years now in both idpa and uspca with pistols and I’ve never in 20 years outside of some very high end and expensive 1911 and 2011 setups shot a pistol this good this fast out the box. Now I want a micro version of this gun for edc.. I’m small work outside doing physical work and in a very hot climate.. and although I can mostly get by with a compact size carry gun at work I prefer micros m-f.. WALTHER PLEASE GIVE US A SLIM FRAME MICRO VERSION OF THE PDP and do not mess with the grip texturing when you do! Something canick mc9 size that isn’t a thin as a 365 or shield plus but thinner then a regular double stack while still taking a regular double stack 15rnd or larger mag mike the mc9 does would be perfect.. I want it with the performance trigger.. the rail and the grip texture! It will out sell the 365 I promise

Question: At anytime did or does your slide "shake"? Before or after the ZR rod install. I just bought the 4.6" Pro, and noticed that the slide shakes/rattles. If I hold it one handed, and twist/rotate my hand, the slide significantly moves east to west. So much so (nearly a 16th inch) that I called Walther. They said it's normal. To me, it's loose. Does yours move??

This is going to sound really dumb but with every pistol I get I draw it from holster and fully clear start engaging the trigger back and forth to the wall and I try to stop at the wall without fully dropping the striker I just sit there pressing to the wall not intending on fully pressing and if I can do that in about a minute or two without breaking the trigger I’m good with it well I just couldn’t and since the aftermarket for this gun isn’t as extensive as Glock I can’t make the pull heavier where I place my finger I get about a 2.5 to 3 pound break on the Walther pdp with Glock I put in the factory plus connected with the increased power reset spring which decreases the trigger pull weight so that’s why I use the plus connector I also use a heavier striker spring if it’s still a lighter than I like which is 4lb to 4.5lb and what I usually get with that mod is a short take up with a solid wall and very clean break and short reset that’s just what I like and until I had the trigger in this pdp I couldn’t or I’ll say I didn’t want to carry it. The pull is still lighter but for some reason I’m able to get that clean wall without the surprise break and yeah I know training training training that’s what I’m going when drawing and dry firing or trying not to. I hope one day the aftermarket will grow and I can get that weight to where I like it but this configuration is sufficient

The regular 15 round PPQ magazine base pads will not clear the PDP Pro Compact magwell. However, the metal base pads used with the PPQ SF Pro will work in the PDP Pro Compact and the 18 round PDP Pro Compact magazines will work perfectly in the PPQ SF Pro.

Have you seen the YT video "Fatal PDP Flaw Revealed by Red Shirt" that describes the PPQ/PDP "feature" that unknowingly takes your pistol out of battery if the barrel/slide is pressed against an object when the trigger is pulled, which requires a re-rack of the slide??? Seems like a big problem (but supposedly Wather implemented that feature decades ago per German requests) if some type of close-defensive struggle occurs. If you look deep in the comments of that video, people say the 2023 frame and slide versions no longer have that feature. 🤔 Also, in those comments it mentions going to a lighter (e.g., 13-pound) spring, will make this issue happen much more often since the slide may not fully return, thus cause the same issue. Yesterday at my local gun shop, I bought a PPQ Q5 Match (polymer), which I looked forward to a lot of range time, and hoped to maybe OWB conceal-carry some day. I highly doubt I will experience a close-quarters encounter that prevents me to shoot (if needed), but it makes me think about it. I'm also sure other firearms have their own issues when not operated in a perfect setting too, it's not a perfect world, and needing to pull a trigger in a life or death situation already is always risky.

@@MDpolo I’m in no way the expert on that topic, but I thought to mention it. At first it bothered me to hear of the issue, but now I’m fine with it. If it’s true, Walther may have implemented this as a feature to prevent AD’s, who knows? Supposedly the 2023 models no longer have this “feature”. I may wait a few months longer to get a 4” or 5” Pro since I’ve yet to fire the Q5. I also wish the PDP Pro’s had a 15-round option (without needing to remove the mag well). I know my wallet would appreciate a few month wait too!
