The ‪@Waltherarms‬ SSP was born in 2005 due to the new rules that were put in place for Olympic and ISSF (international shooting sport federation) shooting which restricted the types of dimensions, grips and trigger pull weights that were legal to use. This series of rule changes saw companies like Walther making bids to design completely new pistols to conform to the requirements of the Olympic sport and ISSF. One such pistol - the Walther SSP. The SSP replaced the OSP which was rendered obsolete by the rule changes in 2005.
This particular pistol is the SSP Right - L model chambered in 22LR and it is the most customizable pistol that I have ever held.
Many thanks to Bill B. for lending me this amazing pistol for the review.

@@MDpolo It's only anecdotal evidence, but I know someone from my range who owns the SSP-E with the electronic trigger and it has been a nightmare for him. That thing has been sent in for repair at least half a dozen times since he bought it because of serious malfunctions and it always came back the way it was before. And by serious malfunctions I mean it sometimes shoots when closing the slide (no finger on the trigger!) and it often double-taps when pulling the trigger once. The owner is a really good target shooter and he's a military professional shooting trainer, so it's definitely not him. As I said, it's just anecdotal evidence with one single SSP-E, but still... I just ordered the mechanical SSP because I never heard anything bad about it.

Yikes! As we all know, anything can fail, but to have it sent so many times to Walther without the issue being fixed is surprising. This regular one has had zero issues whatsoever. The only hiccups with it have been 100% ammo related. Thank you very much for sharing.

The Pardini has significantly better recoil management so it'll be the superior rapid fire gun. The SSP, though, has better options for grip adjustment. Trigger wise both are world class and fully adjustable. Accuracy-wise both will shoot half-inch groups at 25m with good ammo and possibly quarter-inch groups with carefully selected ammo. The SSP has a bit of a reputation of being finnicky with its chargers while the Pardini has a reputation for weak firing pins.

Unfortunately SSP is less reliable as its predecessor the GSP. I had a few reload issues with one of the mags and after a lot of rounds the trigger pull adjustment screw loosened itself so it got a bit of blue Loctite. The old GSP i was putting 5k-10k round a year without any issues and cleaning once a year. Some parts of the SSP is impossible to clean, unfortunately. Unloading the SSP is a bit complicated just as loading the sixth round needed for some competitions in Sweden. The recoil of the SSP is a lot different than the old GSP which had more jump up, so even though it is less reliable and with its quirks it is a better gun. My favorite is though the Steyr LP50.

+Rider’s-Range lol, not sure I can see the target at 50! Perhaps I’ll use the Force... on a serious note, I completely agree with you. This is a single purpose pistol for the competitive shooter. It's pretty common here in Germany. ISSF 25 meter one-handed .22 lr pistol is one of the most common competitions around here and all these guns are really expensive unless you find a decent used one for less than 1000 Euros. Other options (Feinwerkbau, Pardini) are even more expensive and you just can't compete even on the lowest levels with a "normal" .22 lr pistol. Around here it's not as easy to just buy a bunch of semi-autos, you basically need to shoot competitions with every single one of your guns to even get it. This is why people tend to buy the best of each caliber/type because you're usually not going to get another one of in that caliber/type (unless you are a serious pro who can prove they needs backup guns)

It's beautiful. In competition, what distances are these shot at? What is typical for accuracy when shot from a rest at 25 yards? I don't have any knowledge on pistols in this category so I'm just wondering what is possible with this type of pistol. I have a few 22 cal pistols that are very accurate, so I want to see how accurate they are compared to something that is shot at the highest level of competition. Thanks for the great videos
@thatsquidwardfeel5567
@thatsquidwardfeel5567 2 жыл бұрын
They're made for the 25m ISSF ruleset, though I think in the US they're also often used at 25 yards (~23m). Dispersion wise, these guns will produce quarter-inch groups with carefully selected ammo, half-inch groups or thereabout with just regular match-grade ammo.

@@frankbrowning328 They are very comfortable to shoot (1kg+ guns shooting 22lr) and most have fully adjustable *everything*. Among high-tier shooters it's fairly common to have the grip modified with epoxy paste to get a perfect fit to your individual hand. The downside is they're a bit like race cars. Great if you put them on a track, but you wouldn't want to drive one daily.

It's just a different manual of arms to learn, but functionally speaking it works the same (and has the advantage of a fully adjustable grip since you're not restricted by the angle the magazine needs to sit at but without losing as much barrel length as say with a Pardini).
