Very impressive gp9 model from Walthers Proto, I may decide to purchase one of these models in the future however I am trying to decide between Walthers and Athearn Genesis for my choice.

Honestly get whatever one you can find for best price. The Genesis lacks a few lights in comparison, doesn't weigh much more either. Proto will give you the better running engine overall, Genesis is a bit noisier out of the box.

go for the genesis- they have far fewer premature motor meltdowns. i tell the guys in our club to get a kato brush & cap kit for each of their new proto locomotives. i go thru brushes like you wouldn't believe trying to keep up with the proto motor tune-ups.

So first off, I just found your channel, and I"m loving your content. The video I found it with though was the Athearn Genesis Durham & Southern Bicentennial GP38-2. IN that video, you have a Bojangles tanker. I *NEED* to know where you acquired that tanker. Like, in my bones I need to know, as a Carolina Boy (and former Bojangles Biscuit Making Champion in the region). At any rate, these videos are great. Love your camera work. Love the demos. Love the sound. Love your layouts. This one was almost as nice as the N&W Class J 611!

Thanks for watching! The Bojangles tanks are both custom made by myself. Went for cheaper car bodies and off the shelf yellow spray paint, decals I printed off from resized PNG's. One of these days they'll get a remake, until then those are the only two. Their existence made it to Bojangles corporate at the time, family friend had a connection there that loved them...Sadly I didn't get anything for the build effort 😂.

@@SCL3618 That is amazing. I was wondering if they were in fact custom. I've not quite went so far as doing custom work other than some weathering effects yet, though I did start looking at possibly doing some graffiti on some of my rolling stock, so... who knows? The fact Corporate noticed you, while you didn't get anything (not a surprise, really--all I got for winning fastest biscuit maker 3 years running was a lapel pin) is still pretty damn impressive in itself. Really, if you can't get them money, they don't care. But yeah, love your cinematography, honestly very soothing, and takes me back to the Ringo Starr/George Carlin Shining Time Station days. Good stuff, keep it up! Very inspiring, and as I slowly get back into the hobby (along with a 3D printer), I'll be looking to your channel for ideas!

I have the sd9 version of this only with tsunami sound that thing has the quietest motor I have ever seen on any train I have and I'm usually a nerd of athearn genesis. the only difference between mine and this one is that it has the big round blinking light and the markings that say "radio equipped" . Very nice find.

No question I'll trust a Proto drive over Athearn any day of the week. These are just out on the market, I believe this may be some of the first coverage.

@@SCL3618 Although I also like athearn drives for their pulling they may not be as quiet but man they pull. my sd9 struggles to pull anything above 9 cars by itself which suprises me because those drives in the walthers have helical gear setups which are supposed to be for heavy duty I would like the walthers drives more if they hauled like my sd45-2 which I have had 27 cars on by itself before having to add a second engine.
@SCL3618
@SCL3618 Жыл бұрын
@kurtisy6986 All they need is a bit more weight and it solves the pulling issue. Most of my Athearn geeps are nigh useless after pulling the rear weight to fit a speaker, so I've got no choice but to run them in tandem.

@@SCL3618 Oh remember your video on the lighted caboose? the second run of those cabeese released a few days ago I got the kodachrome caboose. You had mentioned the lights were too dim I'm happy to report that they made the lights brighter! I set the markers and interior lights to max and they can be seen really good now Maybe you can review the second run?

I always thought the older SP locos looked kinda odd with the 5 head lights on top of each other, now I realize it’s because there are no ditch lights
@SCL3618
@SCL3618 Жыл бұрын
Not quite, this lighting pack was in existence long before ditch lights ever came into the picture. Standard headlight on bottom, mars light in middle, emergency light up top. SP had lighting rules for all equipment starting in late steam era.
