What the TV show did with creative license is amazing. That little village is so ... underwhelming. The museum is pretty neat. It's an old elementary school turned into the Walton mountain museum. I always thought the outdoor mountain scenery in the show never matched the mostly deciduous mountains of that area. Scenery in the show is western scrub pine on mountain tops. Like Idaho or northern California.

My wife and I and a younger couple rode our motorcycles up there a few years ago. The other couple had never heard of the show and couldn't understand why I wanted to go. Their loss! I still what The Christmas Story every year. Maybe if we all did the county would be better off

When the show was first broadcast, my husband and I were poor college students without TV. An older married couple I knew through the university were genuine hipsters- what people called hippies at that time. They loved the show and invited us to go see it at their house. It was a show that appealed to people of all ages. I still watch the Christmas movie each year. Good memories.

When we went a long time ago, it was more of a gravel road. Even had a dog in the middle that we had to drive around ! And the neighbors sheep were out acriss the street at the B&B !Definitely changed alot ! But the big museum in the old school was there, and the country store up the hill !

@@HardRockMiner it is much smaller than the tv version. But very cool to see the original.

This is the house of Earl Hamner. He created the Walton’s. Jon Boy’s character was based on his life. This is where Earl grew up and where he started writing. I don’t think this house is open to the public anymore. It was sold after he died. The museum and the bed and breakfast that does look like the tv house is there. You can tour the bed and breakfast.

So the whole story was made up? No mountain home No Grandpa going on top of waltons mt
@goldenheart058 күн бұрын
@@henner-x8u no the story was very much real. Just the house wasn’t as big as shown in the tv series. It is in the mountains, and is still a rural area. But the tv show was filmed in California so of course it looks different.
