Hi Mavis! 🙋🏻 Cheers and, yes, it was very much an off-road experience. A mountain bike is probably the right choice, with a gravel or cyclo-cross bike a close second, although I reckon you could make it on a road bike in the dry if you fully committed to it.

Yes, and remind me to only go in the summer after a dry spell ... assuming we ever get one of those ... 🌧️🌧️

I can’t wait to see some 8k s5’s go up there😂

🤣. It would make for excellent spectator sport - I'd even consider paying to watch...

Not sure how that made it into the books to be honest... Not a climb for a road bike. "the corkscrew" was pushing it but this is something else... Same route back down?

I wonder if he might have been running out of climbs to make up the 100 for the X-List; Old Kilpatrick Hill is just a … rocky path, Afon Ddu has a surface which looks like it’s been laid for tracked vehicles. Even Bamford Clough is, IIRC, a tarmaced BOAT. This one, though, just felt like a short cobbled berg to nowhere so I had to walk back down most of it…

I really didn’t like this one. My newly brought GP 5000 tyres didn’t after either 🙈 this and the corkscrew I just decided to walk most.

You and me both, I think - and on the Corkscrew too. Old Kilpatrick Hill is in the same category...your GP5000s may struggle to forgive you for this one as it's rather longer than the Corkscrew or Waltonberg...
