Waltteri Väyrynen: Opeth - Paragraph 6 (§6) - drum playthrough at Rockfield Studios

Managed to dig out this footage of one of the takes for 'Paragraph 6' from the actual album recording of 'The Last Will and Testament' at Rockfield Studios, Wales in February 2024. It's not the take that we ended up using on the album as I wasn't completely happy with everything here. Couple of fills are a bit off and different from the final version and there's some overall sloppiness here and there but thought it's good enough for a drum play through video and I guess most of the essential stuff that made it on the album version is there anyhow. Plus it's fun to share some raw, unedited material from this session. Huge thanks to our producer/engineer Stefan Boman for these original drum tracks of this particular take! I proudly use and endorse Pearl, Sabian, Wincent, Evans.

2:40 FINALLY a drummer who will play the kick under the snare for a groove like that. It makes it so much more impactful to have the kick and snare hits land together and I see too many drummers never playing kicks under the snare hits because they think it's somehow wrong.

That fill at around two minutes and the transition out of it through another double bass part until you bring the whole thing into a straight four-on-the-floor is my favorite sequence of drum parts this year by far. I love the way it moves from really busy to ridiculously straight forward so smoothly that it sneaks up on you. Great composition.

Loved both Lopez and Axe but it's great to see Walt not only totally kicks ass, but inspired the band with some new energy. Your playing on the album rules and after listening to the record numerous times, it just keeps getting better. I think Paragraph 2 deserves more love, such an old school type song with the classic outro. Paragraph 4 might be my favorite, loving every song actually.
