Hooray, swords get their 3 minutes of fame!! I always felt that sword collectors are like Jan Brady, the middle girl in the Brady bunch series. She was always playing second fiddle to her older sister Marcia. She was always ranting about Marcia, Marcia, Marcia, with sword collectors its daggers, daggers, daggers!! As always, a great video, keep up the good work and I’m loving that NSKK dagger I recently purchased with the black paint on the grip. I also found traces of black paint on the scabbard fittings.

Tom; You and a few others have done so much to research and shine a light on the manufacturing and difference between these amazing WW2 pieces of history. We all owe you guys a great debt! This being said, there is still so much more that can be learned….but in some instances time may be short. There may be still some alive in advanced age we can learn from. Unfortunately this cost money. Travel cost to Germany, researching files ect ect cost money. What a gift to the hobby if there was a charitable trust set up where people could donate funds to further research these items we all love. Maybe a scholarship for a young researchers. The Death of Mr. Johnson should have been a warning to us all. The old guard isn’t getting younger and the hobby needs people who are as dedicated as you guys were.

Some notes to the swords: The diplomats sword/ Diplomatendegen. When the german empire was formed in 1871, it was basicly an enlarged Prussia. But the smaller states had the right, to get some Reservatrechte/ special rights. The smaller or northern states had/ wanted few Reservatrechte, but some, especially Bavaria and to lower level Württemberg and Saxony ( Kingdom!) had a lot. For example some states had still their own postal/ railway service, vor the bavarian army jackets in colour ,bavarian blue'. Bavaria, Württemberg and Saxony had the right, to still keep an own war and foreign minister, but i don't what those three states did in reallity, so very few diplomatic swords of this states COULD exist. To the sabers of justice or fieldmarshall series. When the name Lützau is written Lützow, the ow is not spoken ,au' but , of', see the napoleonic era song ,Das ist Lützows wilde verwegene Jagd'. Sabers of this look/shape are still produced by WKC and Eickhorn, but no more used by Bundeswehr or Police etc.. They are still used by the ,officers' of target/ competition shooters clubs in northern german regions when parading in ,target shooters uniform' (green jacket, white or green trousers and a black or green civilian hat), by ,officers' of some bavarian target shooters clubs using traditional bavarian dress as uniform, or by ,officers' of historical militias. This militias wear 19th century uniforms, when they appear at historical events, their bands play march music, the ,soldiers' show some drill and they fire a salvo of blanks, but up to mid 19th century they had to support Army and Police.

What is sad for collectors is with all the Allies bombing of Germany, so much information has been lost to history about these daggers. That being said there still may be a few old timers alive who might shed some light on the subject….but time is short.
