There's also an Oz museum down in Liberal, Ks, if you ever head that way. The population there is about 20,000, but it is an interesting town. By the way, if you're looking for suggestions for this summer's vacation drive, may I suggest the Great River Road? Which traces the Mississippi, & runs from Lake Itasca, Mn, where the headwaters are, all the way down to Venus, La at the Gulf Coast.

So glad that it seems the buildings are being kept up. The Wizard of Oz museum looks like someone or some group has put much time into it. Good way to keep your town on the maps. Just before I moved from Iowa, the small town of Riverside decided that they were the small town in Iowa that Captain Kirk would come from in the future. I have not really been back to see if they did as grand of things to tie themselves to a popular story as we see was done here. Thanks for another grand road trip! Always fun and Interesting to see these small towns and hear of there past. And it is so nice to see those still vibrant and alive today!

@@TravelwithaWiseguy As I said, they started setting up to be the future home town of Captain Kirk about the time I moved away from Iowa. How far they got, I do not know. There is a lot of history and small towns in the area. And they set up a gambling casino since I left that has great eating, lodging, and golf course. The area is full of small towns with history, and rivers and corn. How much corn? Listen to Heywood Banks's song "Interstate 80 Iowa"!

The outside of the museum used to look quite barren a few years ago. The colorfulness of the museum and water tower was done within the last 5-years or so. The murals and the Yellow Brick Road all were done about the same time.

Awesome video!!! I live about 30-miles from Wamego, KS - beautiful little town. The Oz Museum and the water tower got a face lift roughly 5-years ago, give or take. BOTH used to be quite barren looking before their respective face lifts. Vanderbilts is where I go and buy my work boots every year!! Also, Liberal, KS, has their own version of an Oz Museum. Do believe that Sedan, KS, has a version of their own Oz Museum as well. If you go to the intersection of US HWY 24 & KS HWY 99, at the SW corner across the street from McDonald's, there is a house that resembles Dorothy's house from the movie. On one side there are a pair of LEGS sticking up into the air as if the house landed on the Wicked Witch.
