I own this pedal!! I was curious to see the buffer inside. Thank you as always 🤘

Nice work as always Joe, I just had a 2014 Wampler Hot Wired V2 od/distortion pedal in that I repaired and thoroughly cleaned (had to evict a colony of dust bunnies) and also noticed some of the odd shaped holes in the enclosure so that the assembly could be wiggled into place. I was glad that there was no surface mount components used on this model (Brent Mason signature) to deal with. Can’t wait for the next one 👍🤙🖖

This is a fantastic channel. I was toying with fitting a 1n34 diode to a conventional Tumnus, but, I’ll check out your upload as to whether or not ge diodes are worth buying. Thank you for the quality uploads.

Enjoyed this one Joe as I had a Tumnus on my board for a while before switching to a CTC Unobtanium 18 months ago. Unobtanium always feels more responsive even though the Tumnus has the 18v bump too. I'd like to see an Unobtanium teardown and your thoughts on the pedal. I enjoy your videos.

I love the Tumnus DLX its been on my board since it came out. I felt it was very similar to the Klon KTR (JHS Modded), I have compared the Tumnus to other K clones and the Tumnus is the Best to me.

So the pedal that beat the real Klon in the Anderton's blind test, is using SMD diodes. I wonder how likely it is that they are silicon ...and how furious BF is that, particularly being not being 1N34 from his select batch, it never really mattered anyway 😂 Not to mention the KTR PCB that says "These are essential" on the inside (next to the diode location) - and the message about "ridiculous hype" not being of his making on the outside. He is a card.

Components are not THAT important, good design is.

The advent of SMD in pretty much all mass produced pedals has really thrown me out of love with it all. It feels like when vinyl gave way to CD's.

I no longer care for boutique companies. I’ll keep my boss and Maxon pedals. And will only buy a new pedal if it’s through the hole. I really want the prs flanger tress in the wind
@sammo3033 ай бұрын
It makes sense to go SMD but it means the major assembly work is done by the pcb manufacturer and that doesn't really align with boutique does it? That coupled with the fact that there are user friendly tools for pcb design that are making the pedal industry so saturated, and the fact that most pedals are variations on established schematics sort of makes the boutique moniker a pretty hard sell these days, to me at least. On the other hand, I suspect the quality of construction is generally better these days, not sure if we've ever seen a single sided pcb on this series?

@@BlakeC27 I know . Others may define them as boutique though.

@@taky2686 i’m not saying that it’s a bad sounding pedal I’m just saying for that price I would much prefer it to be through the hole

Thankyou! Can you please do some of the boutique digital FV-1 based pedals out there - Walrus Audio, Chase Bliss, OBNE, etc? I am keen to see what the difference really is aside from the digital coding.

I just got the Germanium version of the Tumnus Deluxe. Now I’m curious how different it is to the Klon circuit given this one is different.

It doesn’t look like the powder coat was masked on the inside of the enclosure for grounding to the jacks. Are the sharp edges on the washers expected to penetrate the overspray of powder coat?
@graybenchelec3 ай бұрын
I didn't show it well enough, but the deeper edge of that side was raw enough for good contact. Good looking out though
@MrAletube3 ай бұрын
actually,smd chips are easier to replace than through hole components,once you have the right technique and proper tools,its faster and less prone to ruin traces on pcb
@Antron893 ай бұрын
Surely desoldering SMD chips is not simpler than changing socketed ICs.
