I was thrilled this morning, as I dropped my 6th grade son off at school, to see 6 large raised beds with trellises at the back of the school. They are teaching the elementary kids how to grow food in their own school garden. Gary, TX.

Thank you Danny for your honesty, It was an inspiration. I am 71 years old and I will be retiring at the end of this year and just getting started in my homestead adventure. I am presently working on an air base in the Persian Gulf. My wife of 47 years and I have 2+ acres just south of Tallahassee and about 4 miles north of the gulf where I will be building our retirement home. It isn't a large piece of land but I think I can make it work. Both my wife and I have longevity in our families so we are expecting to have several good years yet. When we retire in January we are planning a first honeymoon because we eloped and never had a ffirst one. I hope we can plan a visit to your little bit on heaven. God bless the two of you.

Thank you for sharing your story, Danny. You are a tremendous blessing to us! We are in our late 30's. My oldest son is 19. We are all part of the "younger" generation you mentioned who are interested but haven't had any knowledge passed to us. We are so thankful that you are willing to make videos in order to help us. Blessings to you both!

Thank you for sharing your story. I am a disabled single mother of three and found I had two choices... homestead or go on welfare.... though I am grateful for the availability of assistance and see nothing wrong with using welfare programs temporarily... I decided for me and my family homesteading was the way to go. So with a little help from family, friends and even a few strangers... I and my children have been slowly turning 3 acres, 1 pond and an abandoned old farm house in our home. The lessons my children have learned and the bonds it has helped build between us in working our land have been priceless. The stability it has brought into our lives has been such a comfort... It has taught us to appreciate every blessing no matter how small. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us through all your videos and may God continue to bless you richly... Shalom.

I saw a great idea where used pallets were transformed into raised gardens to the height of your waist so that you did not have to bend down. They are lined with landscape fabric so that they can drain w/o losing precious soil. Some even put casters on them to make them portable so they can best best sun exposure all day long.

Danny, thank you for all your videos especially this one. I wish i was sitting on the porch with you with a tall glass of ice cold lemonaid or ice tea, looks so peaceful there. By the way, God didnt replace your wife with wanda, he sent wanda to make your life complete again after your loss. You and Wanda are beautiful people inside and out, my wife and i have grown to love you both in a short length of time even tho we have never met, it would be an honor to meet you both but being over 1300 miles apart, that may never happen. Thanks again Danny and Wanda, keep up the great work and God Bless.

Hi Danny & Wanda, I know this video is 5yo. I had watched your high tunnel vid from 11/29 and then arrived at this upload. If my parents were alive they'd be in their mid 90s - I still recall how in awe I was even back then of their knowledge. I'm in my 50s, the youngest of 4. I wish I'd been able to learn more from their vast array of real world know-how. They passed while I was still in HS. God has gotten me thru as well...the power of Faith and Hope propels us in His Holy Spirit that Love will sustain, overcome and provide. I'm the only "green thumb" in my family. Don't have space for hi tunnels in my HOA yard. TY for sharing your story. Hugs & Blessings to you both 💙 👍 🌈 🌺 🌠

Such humility while sharing your story. You've truly blessed & encouraged me. I was a late addition to my family, so all of my siblings are much older than I & my grandmother was only with me until I turned 18. So, I never was taught how to garden properly & can, but at age 50, as a single momma of 3, aged 17, 14, & 10, I have a very strong need to learn. I don't have much yard to work with, but small is better than not at all. Hollis & Nancy sent me, & I'm so grateful they did. I look forward to all you can teach me. I am praying for your health & prosperity. Love, hugs, & blessings to you both. ☺☝

Loved your story and how the Good Lord has worked in your life. I am also a born again Christian and also have some health issues. I had a heart attack Halloween morning which got me 2 stents in my heart. I had had a major stroke about 7 years ago but have very little side affects but it did slow me down a lot. I'm still healing up from the heart attack and looking forward to seeing how much better this spring I will be. I figure this way that the Good Lord kept me here for a reason and now it's up to me to figure out why! Heart touching video

Danny I ust happened across the video where you used your antique grinding tool to process rice into rice flour. Then you made gluten free bread. I have celiac disease so NO gluten of any type for me...ever.... and your video was totally fascinating.I thought * Who is this man....he seems like he can do anything with such patience and finesse*.Then I started watching your videos and WOW once again I fell over with being impressed at the amount of hard labor you put into your great property. Now hearing your story I am SO happy that two such decent hard working down to earth people like you and Wanda found each other. It just reignites my faith in humanity. There IS hope and yes God is good. Much love from California....a new fan,Cheryl

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm in my mid 50's too, disabled a few years ago and felt alone in wanting to still achieve a homestead style life. In Australia we call it hobby farming or small scale farming. I now understand to look at life in ways I can cope not in the ways I can no longer do things! I look forward to watching more of your videos and hope to see you do some straw bale gardens soon :)
@DeepSouthHomestead

You should always look for ways to do what needs to be done. At some point in our lives we have to accept that we can no longer do some things. Then move on. Life has so much to offer if you don't dwell on the past. Straw bales would just be taken over with fire ants here. Thanks

Just seen your January video, you are a sensible couple looking ahead to a secure future. My wife and I made a change two years ago to sell our large house and move to a smaller more manageable house with a large garden (I to have a chronic illness). We had 4 long raised beds built and with the bit of money we have left over are able pay a active senior citizen to do the work I am unable to do, good for him good for us. We now grow most of the veg we need, and look forward to a few more happy years together. Take note readers don't struggle in a big house down size and enjoy life. Bless God and grow old happily together. Life is a gift not to be wasted. MrA in the Uk.

Hi Danny and Wanda, Your comment about Hurricane Katrina struck a chord with me. We've owned a home in Louisiana for 12 years now. We lost power for Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav, and the floods in August trapped us (dry, fortunately) for a week because the roads around us were impassible. Being without power for 10 days after Gustav resulted in the loss of my frozen food and the freezer too. And I didn't take water in August, but several friends did. My environment has emphasized the need for a pantry that's shelf-stable at room temperature and flood proof. Canning has become my new hobby but also a food diversification option. We don't want to leave the grid, but we would like more self-sufficient. Two-weeks without power is our baby step. You have a great channel. Thank you for the time you spend making these videos.

Danny and Wanda, Your video came up tonight for me to view. About midnight I layed down and was praying and asking God if he heard my pleas. You see after a fire 7 years ago I'm alone now after 21 yrs of marriage. I miss being married and having a partner in life. I miss having my farm. I'm like Wanda, I know my herbs and plants. Now I live in a small town on 1 acre. I believe God has shown me that the man he has for me is not yet single. That he will lose his wife to death. So I've prayed for him. Then I asked God for confirmation to help me keep believing and your video popped up. Wow. See how God is using you!!. I'm keeping the faith. Robin

Honestly, your blessing has been our blessing. God saw a much bigger picture for you both than you probably ever imagined. You have shared with and ministered to hundreds of thousands of people. In life, there are times when you can feel so "small and insignificant" and be at a point where what you might think is that your disabilities, age, getting older, trauma, etc can have you so down and frustrated and even feeling hopeless. But here we are. Here you are. Something beautiful has blossomed in an unimaginable way. But that I/ we have faith....❤

Good advice about designing your homestead for aging. I have never seen anyone on youtube speak about the older person & the changes & inability to do the big gardens. I am a disabled nurse who lives in a mobile home in NY & enjoys container gardening. I can & dehydrate veggies from the farm stands or public market. I work on my garden when I am able to without being overwhelmed. It gets me outdoors & saves me money too. No one knows what the future holds.Great advise! Love your videos. you & Wanda are great together!

Love your story!❤️ Isn't our God amazing! He will never close one door without opening another. The key is it's always in His time, not ours. Wanda was out there to be brought into your life at just the right time! You are both blessed and I know your story is a blessing to others! As far as the gardening goes, I'm right there with you on the raised beds and pots. I'm about your same age and I love to garden, but the stooping and kneeling are pretty much out any more! Lol! This will be my first year to try some of the big tubs, so I hope it goes well! God Bless🙏

You are absolutely correct that unforeseen things can happen in life that drastically alter our situations. As I am also an aging disabled person I can seriously relate to the things you are saying. I know that I still have lots of dreams for our own homestead but I am hindered by health and financial situation. We take it one day at a time with God's grace and help. As you mentioned many people are realizing that we have lost a lot of the knowledge and general know how of many of ancestors. KZbin is a good media for preserving some of that knowledge. Thanks for sharing your story and may God keep His hand on you and your family.

At 61 yrs I find that my third cancer may be terminal. But, I've gotten through much 3 men I loved and adored died. I managed to escape a violent marriage. Miscarried 3 babies, gave birth to 3 others, the eldest died at 18. I've been dead 3 times. Futures appendix nearly did me in. But you can't give up. You pick yourself up, dust yourself off & get back in the saddle. Never give up! Never surrender! I've stumbled, and fallen & Jesus carried me when I thought I could not make it. First, thank you and praise God for His love and mercy for us all. I am now leaning towards some raised beds to supplement my garden. Although my back is reconstructed, I seem to be able to manage the garden with my son's help. Your plans seem to me to be a good commonsense way to build for the future! God Bless you both!

What a lovely testimony! I'm a new subscriber (came here from Big Family Homestead), and disabled as well. I grew up at the knees of grand and great-grand parents who were Ozark hillfolk, and as such have always lived the "homesteading" and self-reliant/preparedness lifestyle. I love the videos that you and Wanda and other fellow homesteaders/gardeners put out. Rather than having a nonsensical television programme on, your videos are more like dear friends stopping by for a visit and sharing a bit of what's been going on in your lives. Thank you! And may the Heavenly Father continue to keep and bless you and Wanda. Now I'm off to watch the rest of your videos.... :)

Thank you so much for opening your heart and sharing your story. I'm humbled by your openness and honesty and am so glad that God was looking after you during your times of distress by meeting Wanda, who you describe as such a wonderful and loving woman. I am so happy you were able to use your courage and determination to keep the homestead, which is absolutely a beauty. May God continue to bless you both and may you find much happiness and prosperity in the future. I, too, am blessed to have met you both through Julie at dirtpatcheaven and hopefully one day we will be able to meet in person when I travel down to Alabama to visit my brother. God Bless you, and again, thank you for sharing your story.

The unforseen happened to me at age 39. I had my life planned. I was a registered nurse and loved it. I was diagnosed w colon cancer. My world changed forever. Some changes bad and some changes forever evolving who I am . I have grown. I survived. I'm not able to work at this time and am on disability. we have started our journey to be more self sufficient. I want to know what I'm eating. I know what kind of life the chicken I'm eating had bc I raised it. Thank you for sharing. God bless

Danny I enjoy watching you and Wanda so much! I now have my husband watching. We learn so much from the two of you. We homestead as well. I grew up on a Plantation here in south Georgia and couldn't imagine living a city life. I love how we live and being self-sustainable. I absolutely dread when I have to go in to town. I was noticing this video was posted in 2016 and you talked about preparing because you never know what lies ahead and here we are in 2020 a crazy year that more than ever has woke me up. Yall have no idea how much I love watching and learning from the two of you. I am fixing to turn 40 next month. Oh and our last name is also King. ❤

I agree about the younger generation being interested in the country/homestead life style. I just started my channel in November, and I already have quite a few really young men and women that have subscribed and that really drives me to share everything I can with them and hope to have some positive influence in there lives so hopefully they make good decisions when bad things are presented to them in life. Thanks for sharing, all the best......Darryl, AML.

Danny my soon to be husband and I are 24 and 25. We are desperate to become self sufficient. We have turned our lives over to God and pray everyday to get to a time in our lives where we can live peacefully and prepared. I found your channel through starry hilder, and am so thankful and inspired. as a young couple beginning this journey, we have many questions. we have very little money, little to none assistance or education givin by family and do not know where to begin, is there any advice you can give on what we can do or where to start. I know it is a lot to ask but any wisdom is well appreciated. thank you
