Welcome to another Don't Starve Together guide! Today we'll be looking at Wanda and her teleportation powers which, in my opinion, are among Wanda's strongest perks. Her backtrek watches are the cheapest and easiest forms of teleportation we've ever had in Don't Starve Together, and her rift watches allow her to transport anyone and anything along with her. Wanda the Timekeeper has arrived in the Constant! She is a skilled clockmaker who will stop at nothing to outrun her future. Wanda's timeline is broken, causing her to age faster than the other survivors. Her health meter has been replaced by an age meter. In old age, she learns how to utilize shadow magic more effectively, and relies on it to make up for her declining strength. Wanda can craft pocket watches to restore her youth, manipulate her space in time, return fallen survivors to their point in time before death, rip holes through space and time, and harness shadow magic to defend herself. Wanda can be woven with 2700 spool or purchased through the Steam store.
From 2019-2021, Klei has released a series of game updates available to all players, under the single thematic focus entitled “Return of Them."
"Eye of the Storm" is the final installment in this series of updates and adds the Moonstorm event, a surprise NPC character, and the Celestial Champion to the game. This will complete the Mysterious Energy quest which begins with the discovery of the lunar island and completion of all three celestial altars. It is the longest endgame quest in the game and offers a number of unique benefits to your world and character, such as infinite full moon nights, renewable moon glass, and infinite light in the form of a crown and shards.
"Reap What You Sow" is the seventh major release of updates under the Return of Them in Don't Starve Together and replaces traditional farms with a completely revamped farming system which includes tillable farm plots, unique farming equipment, crop displays, and numerous fertilizers. The system is considerably more complex but provides a system for year-round farming and the potential for highly-accelerated crop production.
The debris from the moon didn't just reach the forest. It's influence has penetrated down into the caves as well, not only mutating its already strange occupants, but opening areas that had been long forgotten. Forgotten Knowledge is the sixth major release of updates under the Return of Them theme and adds two new cave biomes: the Lunar Grotto and the Ancient Archives. It also adds several new mobs, three new crockpot recipes, and two crafting stations including another moon altar and a station for crafting natural turf.
Troubled Waters, the fifth Don't Starve Return of Them update, added new ocean mobs, foods, craftables, structures, and eight new crockpot recipes. It also added leafy meat as a crockpot ingredient and renewable volt goat herds.
She Sells Seashells went live in April 2020. An Island fragment of the moon has left a lonely creature stranded. Is it friendly? Time will tell. New features include messages in bottles, the moon fragment island, the Crabby Hermit, Crab King, new seasonal fish, the Wobster and Wobster Den the Winch Boat structure, sunken treasures, and singing shells.
"Hook, Line, & Inker" will be remembered as the big fishing update. We finally have the tools we need to go sailing and fish around literally anywhere in the ocean. This update added over a dozen new ocean mobs, three new crockpot recipes, and tons of new craftable items and structures. Most of these new additions are tailored toward the goal of dramatically expanding the fishing experience in DST.
Don't Starve Together is the standalone multiplayer expansion of the uncompromising wilderness survival game, Don't Starve. Now including Reign of Giants; adding new characters, seasons, creatures, biomes, and Giant new challenges to Don’t Starve Together. Cooperate with your friends in a private game, or take your chances with strangers online. Work with other players to survive the harsh environment, or strike out on your own. Do whatever it takes, but most importantly, Don't Starve.

@@TheInfectedGamerYT shard is world that needs loading when entering. The surface world is one shard, the caves is a different shard. Most teleports like the like the Lazy Deserter or Telelocator will not teleport you across shards (will not teleport you from caves to surface) but Wanda's teleport will.

I have been asking for a character who is able to create wormholes for years. I dont care about her 143 damage unbreakable weapon but that teleportation skills are just top tier. Just by using purple gem, we carried marble pieces, skiped travelling through a biome full of killer bee hives and we can just visit Ancient Fuelweaver whenever we want! This is all I was asking for all these years. Thanks a lot Klei. You just made a character for my personal desires :D

I was so mind blown when i realized you didnt bring the watch with you if it was in a container. I genuinely cannot imagine playing late game as any other character from now on. The ability to go all the main parts of the ruins without needing a nightmare amulet, bone helm, lazy explorer, AND all within a few seconds too? I hope if these items get nerfed, its in price, not ability. So late game can still afford it without the expense of utility.

I think it gives decent challenges in the expense of using her. Imo majority of new players couldn't deal with limited healing and tight inventory management Wanda kinda needs in order to unlock her true power against bosses. Tl;dr: I think it is for experienced players and it really requires skill to use her so she is balanced I think

@@umutruzgar2923 to add to that, a lot of wanda's potential is mid-late game oriented. backtrek needs tusks only available in winter(unless you're luck to get a cane and enough green gems early). alarming needs shadow manipulator. and thulecites for time pieces, but that's more forgiving since archives is a godsend early on. majority of the time you'd only have backstep and ageless on the early game so she rather balanced than other characters.

this might help someone organize their watches, i have something in my world called the teletransportation backpack, basically a bunch of backtreck watches amd next to them someething to help you remember where it goes, for example, the one to the moon island is next to a moon shard, the one to the ruins is next to a thulecite, the one to my base is next to a electrical doodad, it helps me organize them, and like you said its a great way to travel! edit: i just realized you said it in the video, but still i use the backpack lol

I don't think it was... well at least I think she is quite balanced, because now that the second chance watch is nerfed she is a character with a high skill potential who has a high skill cost to unlock that potential. She is quite risky to play and her clocks cost "end game material" which further locks her potential to less-able players. Yes she certainly seems strong but do keep in mind that to unlock her combat strength you put yourself at a high risk where healing is very awkward and inventory space consuming. Furthermore, her dps is actually lower than wolfgang due to the fact that the attack speed of whip-weapons is slower than normal melee and wolfgang gets his 300 hp while doing that much damage where as wanda gets 35 hp with limited healing methods that don't really work mid-fight. She is a risky fighter that requires a lot of skill to play to her full potential that is actually weaker and more costly than wolfgang early on, but she gets her tp utility to make up for it.

Also: if you're not using a shadow weapon you actually do less damage the lower hp you have which is especially painful in the early game where you tend to take relatively high amounts of damage you can only really heal slowly over time (not everybody has a clean early game like jazzy) which further emphasizes her skill cost for high potential.

One other thing to keep in mind: Rift's from the rift watch can spawn on the ocean and thus could be inaccessible. This was reported as a bug but Klei has labeled it as a feature.

I didn't know keeping backtrek watch in a chest means you travel without carrying it..I have been using rift watches to travel! This was such a game changer! Thanks so much Jazzy! Also the OP inventory storage idea is fantastic!

Let’s not forget that you can cancel out damage by using your watch to rewind your time (hp) before it finishes. Aka, you take a hit and supposed to lose like 40 years, use a rewind watch to give 8 years back before those 40 years are lost and you might be able to save like 29 years if your fast

Wanda is already one of the best utility characters without her alarming clock. With her alarming clock, she's also the best fighter. She is absolutely broken, and I absolutely love it.

Fantastic video, Jazzy! One question: Can Wanda use her backstep and backtrek watches while riding a beefalo? This could be pretty handy, since riding a beefalo basically eliminates the "glass" part of "glass cannon." You can ride into battle with no armor, tank almost 1,000 points of damage... and take 0 actual damage to your character. Then heal your beefalo with food instead of a watch (so no cool down) and go fight some more. And since you don't need armor while riding, you can even carry a backpack (or a piggyback, with no loss of speed!) full of watches into battle. To me, the hardest part of fighting bosses on a beefalo is leaving the fight long enough to dismount and heal your steed. But if you can teleport to a safe distance, dismount, heal, re-mount and teleport back... problem solved! Also, riding doesn't protect you from ranged weapons... but the backstep watch can! Granted, a beefalo will never do as much damage as an alarming clock. But the alarming clock is a late-game weapon, and the best armor is late-game stuff too, and you have to go through a ton of danger to get there. Rushing beefalo taming in your first autumn could keep you alive in the meantime. It works wonders for Walter, our other "glass canon." Walter on a beefalo can fight boss after boss without worrying about sanity, and can use his slingshot while mounted. What about Wanda?

You can make a Wanda Healing Station ™ with a chest full of ageless watches and maybe use the valentine skin for the chest because you know hearts and healing,i did this on my world and It works like a charm + you can set up a backtrek to go there. Also here are good places to set up a backtrek anchor point: lunar island, grotto/archives, ruins/pseudocience, base, spawn, antlion (or generally any bossfight like toadstool/BQ/Klaus that you yourself trigger,or even a dfly box), pig king, farms (For example a werepig farm that only works on full moon and isn't close to base), Pearl island,etc.

Another idea for organizing the backtrek watches is you have a regular chest and above that regular chest you have mini signs with each item to represent the place you're trying to teleport to. The benefits of doing it in this way is that you can label and place more backtrek watches in a normal chest rather than your method of labeling it with an item inside of the scaled chest. It is good idea to make one central teleportation hub, but you can save a lot of walrus tusks when you make only one rift watch that lead to your base in your inventory instead of every station chest

Wow. So many salty comments. Most people who say she's OP probably haven't played with her at all. Wanda's pretty balanced, and very experienced-player-oriented. Want to play an easier game? Try Wigfrid, she has little to no complexity. Or Wendy, who has a ghost that literally does the dirty work for you. Hell, you can even try Wortox, who is not an easy play but has a lot of perk as well.

An easier way for red gems is to dig graves, that doesn’t really require rushing anything. Also you can get thulecite frags from archives I’ve heard, so no need for a ruins rush :)

@@Obama8mycatHQ. im late, but if someone need it: archives entrance always connected to lunar grotto, biome where your sanity turns into an eye, lunar grotto is always connected to blue mushroom forest. archives dont containt any hostile mobs and you can get 100+ thul fragments from clearing it, the only danger in archives is light, if you run out of light, you are no more

I think it is true that the fastest way to move statues is through the rift, but it does cost 3 walrus tusk and purple gem, or 1 walrus tusk but you have to go back and forth to set the anchor point to remake the watch and wait 8 minutes, much slower than beefalo

Using the rift watch does not consume the backtrek watch, just the purple gem. So all the materials it consumes is the 3 purple gems, if you don’t count the items that you can get back basically for free by unmaking the watch

Exactly, all watch ingredients can be repurposed. There's no "consumption" of tusks at all; just dismantle the watch when you're done and use it for a brush or cane or whatever.

I wonder if she's got potential for speedrunning. I'd love to try a DST speedrun, but there's so much RNG in seed generation and I'm not that great at low equip DST combat that I don't think it's possible for me personally. Speedrunning also just isn't big in DST for the RNG probably, but now that I'm spending a lot of time with a speed game that's all I can think of lol. Joeschmocoolstuff's FW speedrun kill had always fascinated me and I wonder if it'd be faster now with the new stuff and characters. Edit: Oh, nvm, you mentioned speedrunning at around 7 minutes lol. I really hope someone takes up that idea!

My main issue with wanda is that the character is a lot less about "Don't starve together" than "Don't starve". You need her to use any rift watches, she eats up rare resources in fairly large amounts, and one wanda can be bad for another if they don't have the courtesy of planting marble trees or leaving their watches behind when they log off. There's also way too few red gems early game. So whilst thulecite is relatively plentiful in the archives, good luck finding any red gems once all the graves are dug up. Stalagmite farming isn't exactly reliable, and it's very time consuming. Not to mention that it's more difficult during both spring and winter, the seasons that dry out her supply of red gems.

Let's be fair , till this, purple gems (or blue and red gems) had very little use . I found myself storing them for no particular reason in late game . Sure it's not cheap to have to use a purple gem every time but its a late game benefit and it's not supposed to be cheap. It's teleporting everyone anywhere on the map.. plus ,I usually get plenty red/blue/purple gems from ruins clearing and hound waves. I don't think I will use them very often cause I mostly play solo or duo ,but the cost seems reasonable considering how easy could be in late game to clear ruins with friends every year.

I mean, the fact that by the first winter you could have pocket teleporter (only for Wanda teleportation) for this price seems quite good. It's a powerful perk that saves plenty of time and resources in the long run. A similar question could be asked ,like" why other survivors can't use the watches ?" Because then Wanda maybe would be treated like Winona. I understand it's a bummer to have to use a purple gem but a) I don't think it's supposed to be an early game perk. It's too powerful ..and b) if you think it's unfair, do you a favour and spawn some gems. In the end of the day what matters most is you, having fun

@@NicolaVoid I mostly like to play on random servers. Which frequently reset and the players rarely play to the second autumn. Before they either die or reset during low hours. I don't think this side of the community should be neglected. My complaints aren't about the purple gem cost, but just marble and red gems in general. Hell, thulecite is common if you know where to look for it. But getting more red gems can be tricky in the first year.

They already released several early game top tier supports back to back like wortox and wormwood. A good early game speedster that is walter, along wurt a mid game hybrid of support and fighting. I honestly think this is a really bad choice on klei's end. Like I think convenient teleportation is great, but as it stands it makes Wanda pretty much the only viable lategame character by a massive margin if you're playing solo. This is something that should have been made as a general item, with wanda's being in some way more practical (cheaper maybe, I don't know). And no, telelocators are not the same thing. They're prohibitively expensive, come with large sanity drain, don't work in caves at ALL, and you're limited to 2 per world if you want them to cover a significant distance. This is like if you removed all weapons from the game, but made it so wigfrid has exclusive ability to use her battle spears, and they also deal 100 damage per hit. Or if the lazy explorer didnt exist at all, and teleportation was waaaaaaay more applicable in general use. Wanda's advantage over the other characters is unreasonable, and the fact that she invalidates beefalo for the purposes of transporting heavy objects and travel just makes it worse. Either spend hours of time and effort training a beefalo, who can potentially be killed by hounds or bees or just plain old lag, or spend a few tusks on a tool that'll do 2 of it's main uses, with better speed, and essentially 0 chance of losing them. I don't have any problems with them making her strong for combat or whatever, but this gap in transportation efficiency is totally ridiculous. Maybe if she were a free character like winona, and her watches werent limited to being used by her I'd find it more acceptable ala catapults, but neither of those are the case, and I don't think it's fair that people who don't own her have to deal with tedium if they're not willing to shell out cash or unweave stuff, nor do I think it's a good thing that people who play solo are pretty much pidgeonholed into a single character later on in the game. I'm in the fortunate enough position to both have the spools to weave her, and a friend who's willing to play as her so I can keep playing as wurt, but I'm well aware that a lot of people don't have that benefit, and I'm pretty sure my friend would have preferred to keep playing wigfrid.

Why some people act like she is the best damage dealer? Wolfgang still hold the highest damage possible per attack and he still have the highest dps. The thing that makes Wanda good is her utility not her glass cannon type combat style.

For a solo play id say she is better if you are playing with friends wortox is good with the aoe heals, also wanda is a little harder than wortox since you need magic crafting and constant nightmare fuel to function.

Probably not. The watches can only be made after getting a tusk and day 21 and to make her alarm clock you have to get marble, thulecite, turn it into fragments, make a prestihatitator and shadow manipulator. Where as wolf can eat some carrots kill some pigs and he is ready to go. She seems really cool for long term world's. Just haven't been able to make speed runs work with her. Possibly better for like a all bosses speed run

@@greoryryryryryr Wanda starts with 3 time pieces so no need to get thulecite. All you need is 4 marble, 8 nightmare fuel, those three pieces and a shadow manipulator to prototype it. I can usually get the alarming weapon by day 6. Fastest time i heard is day 4.

Could still be breaking the speedrunning of this game by destroying AFW which has a cap of more than 11 days to beat. Or champion, which needs a summer item to beat. So there's time to craft an alarming weapon and still "break the speedrunning of this game."

@@yPrimeape so if you look at my original comment you'll see I did concede that she would be better for kill all boss runs. FW needs 3 fights (AG, shadow pieces) and CC needs crab king and bee queen. So yeah for these 2 runs she may become an option. But breaking speed running implys she will be the default speed run character. And that is clearly not the case.

The only thing I hate is that the developers have done so many things that all players needed, available only to her. Seriously, there are no abilities or structures that could even mimic her power. This kind of teleportation and the weapon that can be refueled are too powerful for one character, I think they are even worth being a boss drop. And what we have from the bosses? A shitty crown that can't even do its job properly?

Hambats are not hard to make, Telelocator Focus and Lazy Deserter can mimic her power to an extent (albeit not in the Caves, and are more costly) Nothing mimics Maxwell's shadow minions, except for just using the tools yourself, which is more costly and far less effective. Nothing mimics Wortox's soul hop, except for the Lazy Explorer, but its far more costly than just killing a random butterfly. Don't even get me started on the switch characters (Winona for example). Seem familiar?

mmmm yeah I played 100 hours with her already and I realised that I don't want to play her anymore (ever). She breaks dst completely. Like -hounds -depthworms -grinding healing -travelling -charly she makes dst a joke and I didn't even mentioned all her perks lol best description for Wanda is: "Who is that Wolfgang you are speaking of?" also for her clock pieces lol you can just farm Tham at the portal and you would get 4 per 1 blue gem and 1 moon rock (also you get marble but who cares right?) also the weapon clocks she has due to their range are op Ancient guardian between statues and you won't get damaged once 24 fossil fragments and hounds are never gonna bit you again (well they won't anyway if you have just two backtrack watches which go from ruins to the surface and back omg I would ask to nerf her but dev won't as this character is stupidly made to be "PAY TO WIN" and I start wondering is it cause the Tencent???

Such a ridiculous character. She really needs to not be the best utility and best fighter. Can you imagine playing any other character in a long term world now? No? That is a ridiculously large problem. She either needs to be gutted or there needs to be significantly more of her utility baked into the game for all survivors to get. Yeah, I really just hate this character. As developed as she is and as interesting as she is, it feels like the rest of the game has been stomped on and made unfun.

Chill out my guy. Idk if you ever tried to play her but without ruins or archives rush, shes not that powerful in the early and the mid game. Even though she is powerful at the late game you still need to carry like 5 watches to be sure you wont die on the way. Because there is no other way for her to heal. Also remember that you are aging every second which means you are supposed use those clocks all the fucking time. Last thing is if you want to make use of her insanely powerful damage, you need to be 1 hit (or at most 2 hits) away from certain death. So believe me, as someone who played her for 3 ingame years, when I say she is balanced.

Or would you rather get Wanda as she is now, and Charlie later as the final character addition? Most people want Charlie.
