Fan Zhendong came back, and showed every doupter what the World Champ is made of!!!😎💪👏👏🏓Incredible, even after Wang came back from 0-3 down, Fan stayed composed, and finished the job in the seventh. He played really smartly, adapting to WCQ game by more short touch shot combinations and more creative play with the forehand, nice tactics to disrupt the opponents rhythim.🧠 Hope he wins Paris, honestly! I think he deserves it!

I think Fanzhendong was tired after the first 3 games. Wangchuqin is younger and has more energy reserves.

Fan played so disciplined. It seemed instead of trying to initiate and bomb every ball he really used the table and countered, more spin and placement over power. Almost the same recipe Ma Long used a few weeks against Wang.

Wang chuqin seems to be injured, no? And I'm not saying this to justify his loss, I already noticed against sora matsushima that he has less body action and uses his right side way less. Meaning less power. I also saw that a comment said he has ankle issues, is that true? Because, when I was comparing this match to his match against lin shidong recently, I thought that wqc was really giving his all then and throwing his body into the balls, and then thought if he was doing that this time as well, but he wasn't as much.

I'm happy for both Fan and Wang. I feel that this game despite a bad ankle from Wang shows a much competitive effort from both of them. Mentally wise, Fan seems to have an edge over an impatient Wang. But Wang stays more patient and focused while playing against Fan. Now this is indeed impressive especially when he came back from 3-0 down. Fan has upgraded his serves from his recent slump. I won't say Fan is at his best with his fitness. He's still suffering from that slow speed due to his weight. But his tactical brilliance won him this competition. That's what we fans want to see. I'm looking forward to a fully recovered Wang challenging an improved version of Fan (hopefully he's slimmer by then). It would be an epic matchup.

To be the GOAT, you first have to be GOAT contender. Even if FZD wins the Paris Olympics, he won't be a GOAT contender. If FZD wins the 2025 World Championships and the 2024 Olympics, he will become a valid contender for GOAT according to a minority view. But still not the GOAT. What sets Ma Long apart is his longevity and his adaptability to the changing nature of table tennis. Ma Long is still winning at age 35 (Asian Championship 2023 and World Cup 2024). Ma Long's lesser known achievements include being 6 times ITTF Finals winner, 4 times Asian Championship winner and 4 times Asian Cup winner, which are all record numbers for these events. It is a tall order for Fan Zhendong to remain at the top after 2 years, given his playing style and body type.

Ma Long and Zhang JK are born to play Table Tennis. They are gifted with what I call the Table Tennis body shape. That means quickness + adequate power with perfect form which IMO is trainable. WCQ is another one with this body shape.

Ma Long couldn't beat Wang Hao in 3 attempts. If he were the most tactical player he would've beaten him just like Ma Lin did.He is the best of the plastic ball era. Plus,Ma Long's forehand dominant style is extremely rare these days so FZD never had much tactical input from his coaches because coaching against teammates is strictly prohibited whereas ML enjoyed tactical coaching against players who had similar style to FZD like Ovtcharov. Both of them are cogs of CNT system against foreign competition and FZD had more success so far.

The debate arises and one is now left wondering what will happen when WCQ and Fan Zhendong meet in the olympics finals. And yet, I can't help but wonder if someone who we don't expect at all, to simply knockout at least one of them before they reach the finals. Who would it be, and if it would not happen, would WCQ or FZD win, and if so? Well, what would the score be and how would that set up FZD's potential GOAT status if he were to win? All interesting questions, but soon we shall we see...

Fan zhendong is not the goat, and will never be. Even if he wins these olympics, ma long has won more, and also achieved other things that fan did not. Also, in this match, and the entire tournament really, wcq was for sure injured. First looked like his right arm or something was, but when I looked closer at his movement, he was moving his right leg and especially his right ankle way less. That's also why he was slower, more unstable, and had less power. Fan zhendong may be back at full form, but I don't think it's gonna be enough to beat a recovered wcq.

​@@michikatsutsugikuni3098 That's an interesting take, though I'm assuming based on your response that you aren't aware of something: FZD has also been recovering from countless injuries, therefore his recent losses are partly as a result of those, therefore WCQ beating him has not much to do with skill deficiencies. Furthermore, in my prior comment, I gave an opinion and a prediction, to which you simply said no. Unfortunately, you cannot say an opinion is wrong, since it is not misinformation or spreading lies, but just an opinion. To add to that, a prediction is but a prediction; you can say whatever you wish, but the fact remains that FZD is close on Ma Long's tail, and soon it won't be as clear cut an answer. We shall see

@@FJRallyz I know that fzd has had many injuries in the last few months, but he's recovered from them. So this fzd is a peak fzd, while wqc was not at his peak. Fzd sure has a much greater winning chance than before, but I still would say that a peak wcq is better than him right now. And for your last point, no, fzd is not close on ma long's tail. Ma long has won 2 olympics, he has won more world championships, more asian and chinese championships, was on nr.1 for a longer time and also for a longer consecutive time (the consecutive time is longer than fzd's entire time on nr.1). So even if fzd does win the olympics, he's not gonna be close to ma long in terms of overall achievement. He would probably be like 3rd or 4th place overall.

@@michikatsutsugikuni3098 Yet you're still a missing a key point. That's the problem. Fan Zhendong is at a very similar stage in his career as Ma Long was when he was the same age. That's the thing. It's not about now. It's about long term. Of course there are very strong players who have the capacity to beat FZD, (and tbh that wasn't as much the case when Ma Long was No.1) but if he rises to the challenge, then it won't really matter. Further to the point you made about ranking, let's both agree that the new system was made nincompoops, favouring participation over actual meritocracy, like a 'certificate of participation' some silly club at school gave you when you were 7. If Fan Zhendong were to get back to No.1 and remain there, as I said, it wouldn't be as clear cut. Your points about Olympics and WCQ vs FZD's peak forms are valid tho, but once again, only time will tell what happens cuz ultimately we don't know and that's part of the reason why I'm such a huge fan of table tennis and its unpredictability (at times)
