01:56 phlegmatic = (of a person) having an unemotional and calm character. I learnt a new word from Danny. Playing the Dutch and getting away with it. He really is a bold player.

Wang Hao World Champion is somehow a funny idea, but it would be entertaining. And chess history shows that eccentrics like David Bronstein shouldn't be written off.

I usually follow the same strategy as Wang. Start with a selfcomposed opening that would leave the king exposed, then try to dodge check mate for the next ten moves or so. Wang just proved nothing wrong with that plan. So I'm impressed... Anyway, was already looking forward to the candidate, but these presentations work brillantly to turn up expectations :)

One example doesn't prove a point. Actually the point of this video is that Wang Hao is so strong he can get away with unnecessary risks like this. I would strongly advise you to castle, as does Daniel King ;) as Fixpoint said well, "it is easy to take risk against somebody who is 300 points below you".

Most of all I hope that all players will have their bright moments and score at least one important win. But personally I would love a close battle between Caruana and Ding at the top. Somehow I think that they are the biggest threat to Magnus. Caruana having been close once already and Ding being a difficult opponent for Magnus (+1 =7 -0 from Magnus' perspective).

5:55 I would actually pick black in here. Black position seems like so much fun, you can try a lot of different things there while white has a single path forward that's try to get 'em in the king side. I think black's position is very non-committal so it gives a lot of room to test wacky stuff

Unbelievable. For someone who does not differentiate win from loss (it's good to be calm) to be in chess elite. So, great play can compensate the lack of killer instinct.

what happens on 19.... fxe4 20. fxe5, Qe7? I am not seeing White's knockout punch in that line. Somebody help please? Also, simply 19...Qe7 (without even accepting the sacrifice) looks all right to me.

Its really simple. U just ignore everything as White and play 0-0-0 and Rh1 and threaten to mate on h8 as showed in one of the variations by Daniel.

At move 10 I liked white more, but at move 15 Hao's position looks better to me. I'm not sure if my intuition is correct here, but I find it funny how the evaluation of a position can switch just by making normal-looking moves.
@Badbentham
@Badbentham 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, as many stronger ladies do, she really went for it. 11.d:c5, indicated by Danny, was certainly a prudent choice, with a highly enjoyable position for white. Her choice of going all-in for the attack closed the position, and allowed black to coordinate; generally a bad idea against the bishop pair. ;)
