I've played this for a competition back in around 2015. This song is definitely one of the most aquatic piece I've ever heard, by my perception of 'aquatic', the equivalents are jeux d'eau by Ravel and arabesque by Debussy...

How gentle and lovely! I think this style, Western classical/Chinese folk is some of the most wonderful music. This sounds like gentle rain on a summer day

Very beautiful and pianistic. It reminded me of some pieces in Godowsky's Java suite. The ending seems a bit perfunctory. Lovely performance. Thanks for the posting !

Such a creative way to end it, on a held dominant fading away underneath the melody all in one arpeggio

I think this is best version of Liuyang river song on the Piano. Better than Yundi. The lightness and sonority is perfect. Not too loud.

From merely seeing the word ”Chinese” I recognized the music style before I pressed the play button. These people almost always build their music upon the [Tone-(3/2)Tone-Tone-Tone-(3/2)Tone] scale.

Debussy anyone?

That's very different.
@schuwennz.68654 жыл бұрын
Mr Peco I mean Debussy might use pentatonic scales but apparently not in a folk Chinese taste. That has something to do with six-tone and seven-tone Chinese folk modes, and the way of using these scale degrees is very strict, which is much more complex than a single pentatonic scale. I don't think Debussy knew that kind of thing..But, yes.There are some similarities....just some.

Yes, Debussy was heavily inspired by Chinese music :)
