Yes, but the other way around. TXR0 would have the same engine, graphics and handling system from WM PS2 and they both came out in 2001, only difference is that it features WM characters, the HUD is different and the cars are licensed. And a little fun fact, many of the sound effects from WM PS2/WMR and TXR0 are still used in WMMT today. edit: honestly fascinating that this game came out a month before TXR0.

It is, but it’s actually the way around. This game is just slightly older than TXR0, and TXR0 would use Wangan Midnight PS2’s engine, handling and graphics. The difference was that TXR0 didn’t have licensed cars, WM characters (obviously) and the HUD was changed.

Incorrect. Wangan Midnight was first, Wangan Midnight R came first. And the Tokyo xtreme racer series is a copycat of Wangan Midnights story, except it has its own quirks for Western fans, as well as Wangan Midnight itself being out since 1991.
