Jackson made up this bass line, chords for strings and other licks with his mouth for Quincy to replicate. He did the same with Billy Jean by layering beatboxing on to tape recorder then writing the lyrics.

i love that clip of him showing the courtroom how he constructs music with beatboxing. its amazing. and Quincy! what a treasure to the world of music.

@@luffegun to be fair to Michael, Quincy was handed some of the greatest songs of all time on a plate. Jackson’s home demos were already arranged pretty much as you hear them before Quincy even heard the track. Obviously Quincy had to bring that concept into real life and polish it but he takes a lot of credit as a pioneer but his only major success was Jackson’s projects and Jackson was the pioneer in that creative process. Jackson seems to be the architect while Quincy was the builder.

I don't have the right amount of words to express how amazing and genius this song is! I also like the message Michael was spreading - yes it is meant to uplift people to live their life but also be intentional, show up, have integrity and be our best selves. This song ages like fine wine. I think this stream was great by the way - the views clearly show that 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 keep going and thanks for the analysis 😊

Your brilliant for sharing! btw the chant at the end says: Mama say mama saw what Micheal saw" Michael spoke about it in a interview back when the song was popular! They decided to just chant it in an African type dialect and diction!
@chefmaster20018 ай бұрын
I’m sorry, but this isn’t true. Michael took this line from an African singer. In fact; he got sued for stealing the line without crediting the original writer. They settled out of court. When Rihanna later sampled the same line in her song, she got sued again by the same original writer and also settled!

He got that technique for making songs from his Mentor James Brown. James Brown would hmmm or sing each part of his songs and have his band play what he was hearing in his head. But some of the musical sounds and melodies of this song Michael got from Quincy Jones song he produced and wrote for Donna Summer's song called State of Independence. If you listen to that song you will hear a similar melody in that song that sounds just like this song. Quincy Jones is a Musical Genius and Michael was his student.

Rod Temperton wrote Thriller originally called Starlight

Interesting fact: jackson only wrote half of the songs on the thriller album whilst simultaneously writing all of the albums biggest selling hits. He also puts a serious stamp of his own written adlibs on songs he didn’t write, such as all those cool bits towards the second half and final quarter of thriller were all MJs. On Bad, he wrote all but 2 songs. Of the two he didn’t write; such as Man in the mirror, he rewrote many parts of man in the mirror and compeltely wrote the final section with the Andre choir which was his idea, all those adlibs “gonna make that change; today, stand up for your brother, stand up for sister, “ etc all his and he never took a writing credit although he was entitled to it.

@@luffegun Linn drum for sure! We need to go back in time too get one! That dead but groovy sound! Prince defo used it more than MJ! But differently! :) MJ! Scatting is him showing the musicians, how he wanting it! He wasn't a sheet music reader! It's a bit mind lowing tbh! 90% of his songs he thought of, from percussion, melody, etc! Make music with what you've got! Hence the suitcase! ;)

I find this very interesting and I always wonder: how does the music artist prepare this for the concert stage. Especially if he has sung the background vocals himself and these run simultaneously in the recording. In the concert, the music artist performs with a band. Is it then a mix of live music and background music and how do you get that so exactly that it sounds homogeneous and like on the recording?
@luffegun2 жыл бұрын
What a great question, there are so many factors that have to be considered in a song like this too. and then in something like thriller with all the little parts and different sounds layered over each other its amazing that they can pull it off so well on stage too.
