I'm religious. Specifically Christian. And I have to say. My opinion has not changed of Achievement Hunter. I was taught to love and accept people. My church has multiple gay people and a couple trans people. I don't treat them different. I actually have helped one of the trans people move twice. Yeah, you don't have to believe in what I believe. I'd like you to, but you don't have to. Moses also took place in the old testament. The new testament and the new covenant teaches love. There are churches that fail to see and practice that. We aren't all jerks. I personally don't always go around and say "oh I'm a Christian and blah blah blah" because it tends to turn people off. I just want people to be Happy. I'm not always perfect or always happy. Doesn't mean I can't love others. All that to say, Achievement Hunter can have there opinions. And while it sucks they may not end up in the afterlife my religion depicts, I will not hate them for their choice. I'll keep watching and supporting them for all the good they do like their charity livestreams. That's all. Please have a lovely day and I sincerely apologise if I have offended anyone.

Tyler Beals, you're the man. I completely second what Jackjohnson15 said, and I really want to empathise how great of a feeling I get when I see and talk to people like you. I don't personally believe in God, but I believe in how much good religion can achieve. For billions of people, religion is a pillar, something that helps carry the weight of responsibilities, grief, or anything you need. Religion is always personal and is never the same for two people. Naturally, there are dark sides of religion, there has always been and will probably always be, but to the many people that say that the world would be a better place without religion, I beg you to consider how many good people, such as Tyler Beals, live with religion. Once again, I'm not religious, I'm agnostic.

So about that 'Moses took place in the old testament' thing, I have a legit question about that, as an atheist. So the Bible is the word of god. And that includes the old and the new testament, right? Christians do believe that the old testament stuff actually happened right? Like the Ark and Sodom and such? So.... What happened between the old and the new testament? Cause from my view, the god in the old and the god in the new are like completely different gods in terms of behaviour and what they preach. So did god change his mind? Did he have some sort of revelation and stopped being such a vengeful god (cause old testament god is... yipes)? Or is it just a different god? But if it's a different god, but the Ark and such did happen, then who did that? If there is just one god... It just confuses me....Because Jews and Muslims and Christians worship the same god, but you also don't and it's confusing...

You guys were right about Fred Rogers. He wasn't trying to suppress the actor's sexuality out of hate or bigotry. The actor said, "The Bible Belt people really, as much as they talk about love and the life of Christ, they don’t love gay people. And I know that. I knew it. So I understood that if a gay person was on television, they were not going to watch that program. They were going to do everything they could to shut it down. Had I been an openly gay person on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” that would have been the end of the program before it began[...]"

There is a difference from being authentic and realistic. Battlefield V released a British woman with a metal arm that is not authentic. The Americans and British did not allow women on the front line. That being said the French, Polish, and Russian had women very active during the war front line.

Wruce Bayne it's probably because they're from a country which Christianity is the dominant religion. What would you expect them to say? I'm sure they know even less about Islam. The point is you don't have to know much about any religion in order to disbelieve the outlandish claims of religious text like the Bible. Anyone without bias comes to the same conclusion that these stories are likely entirely false.

I have never understood the "representation" issue in media. I watch stuff, and play stuff, and read stuff to have an experience I can't have in the real world. I want to see a story from the perspective of a woman, or a child, or another culture. Those are way more interesting! I want to escape from reality, not insert myself into an fps.
@alexanderdumas870
@alexanderdumas870 6 жыл бұрын
I think its a great thing to be immersed in a person totally different from you in media, but media companies are more interested in jerking themselves off over how inclusive they are rather than just doing something because it sounds cool, or will be fun, or impactful, etc. I'm positive that there is a huge overlap of people with gripes over the trailers for BFV showing cyborg women with cricket bats and rugby makeup in WWII who love Aliens, or the Rainbow 6 Siege roster, etc. Instead companies put women on the covers because they know that they can deflect all criticism. "Oh, you thought our trailer looked dumb as fuck and is more cringy then when they added dabbing to Call of Duty? You just hate women. Have fun on the wrong side of history."
@TheBAGman17

It really depends on the game in RPGs where you're expected to be the character and make choices you would make then limiting my choices or forcing me to say things I don't want to say really takes you out of it. In Persona 5 you're constantly bombarded with options to try and romance the girls but I wanted none of it. on the other hand there was a guy called Mishima who I thought was cute but all the options were of varying degrees of being an asshole to him. it was a minor thing but being constantly told by the game I'm playing wrong was fucking aggravating In any game that doesn't rely on playing as a set protagonist there should be always be as much customizable options as possible not because of some agenda but because that's just good game design.
@Fangtorn
@Fangtorn 6 жыл бұрын
Alexander Dumas - I really don't think game companies put women on their covers as a cynical ploy to deflect criticism as sexism. I'm sure _some_ have tried to dismiss legitimate criticism as sexism, but I don't believe it's the pervasive problem in the gaming industry you seem to be implying it is. Most companies make covers they think will sell the most games, and I think their interest in inclusiveness is less about self-gratification and more about adapting to a market that has grown to value and expect that, just like how companies that promote being environmentally friendly aren't just being hippies.

Necroing a little, but whatever. Representation is justification. Without representation in media, people (kids especially) who are under-represented are trained to not belong. When you are treated like your subclass doesn't exist, you feel like you don't belong in normal society. This isn't about getting to take the role of someone with whom you more closely identify (but that is a nice possibility too, one that Millie obviously wants to take advantage of and you do not care to), this is about validating people who may not be hetero-normative and empowering those who may feel left out because they never have representation in certain genre. A little representation goes a long way.

As a Catholic who has taught high school Freshman in religion there are several things I want to state. First, at Catholic school and what I have taught to my students is that the Old Testament is more symbolic than realistic. Second, Original Sin isn’t just, “you exist, now apologize”, Original Sin is just the belief that innately humans will sin and that humans aren’t perfect; we are flawed, we argue, we hate, we fight. We are made in God’s image and loved by Him, but because we have Free Will and can make choices, we can often make mistakes and poor choices (sins). Anyways, if you agree with me or not is up to you, people are entitled to there own beliefs. This comment is just to be informative.

Since they brought up the Chris Hardwick thing ill throw my two cents in. I dont like how we as a society have somehow grown accustomed to tqking drastic measures agaisnt someone who has been accused of wrong doing. People now presume someone is guily until proven innocent, this idea is antithetical to how Americas courts opperate. We have grown used to people being fired for a mere accusation, words with no proof or leg to stand on, on their own. If the court system worked that way most people would be fucking furious. Now dont get me wrong allegations of some wrong doing shouldnt be brushed to the side like they are trash, but neither should a persons innocence. If somene is proven at fault for any allegation then and only then should punishment come their way, otherwise we could very well be throwing punishment at someone who doesnt deserve someone who could have their life ruined by it. Im not defending Chris Hardwick and im not attacking him, because i do not know the truth.
@youtubeuserssuck3394

Bro, the American Court system isn't the perfect example of a just system. Many can argue that the innocent until proven guilty idea is the reason why alot of lower courts are so busy and barely have the time and resources to give everyone a legitimately fair trial. The guilty until proven innocent is just a reality of how people function.

"She's into girls, move on with your life." I think that sentence describes exactly how I feel about sexuality. When my friend from Kindergarten first came out to my group of friends my freshman year of high school, while some people were bothered by it, I was just like "Huh. Okay. Doesn't change anything about who he is." My best friend told me she was bisexual. I basically told her it didn't make any difference to me. No one has any right to critique someone for things that cannot be changed. It's not like a belief. Even with them talking about Fred Rogers. Reading the Jezebel article Geoff was referencing, Clemmons talks about the fact that Mr. Rogers said: "I want you to know, Franc, that if you’re gay, it doesn’t matter to me at all. Whatever you say and do is fine with me, but if you’re going to be on the show, as an important member of the Neighborhood, you can’t be ‘out’ as gay. People must not know … Many of the wrong people will get the worst idea, and we don’t want them thinking and talking about you like that. If those people put up enough fuss, then I couldn’t have you on the program. It’s not an issue for me. I don’t think you’re less of a person. I don’t think you’re immoral.” Sexuality and gender, in my opinion, is literally like eye color or height. It's a simple attribute a person is given, and, honestly, you're pretty damn petty if you're bothered by what someone else's is.

so someone who has been watching death stranding has some ideas surrounding the babies and everything that seems to follow along logically. Their thought is that because we know the monsters age you by touching you, you carry a clone of yourself that is gestating in case of your imminent death, it's thought that once you die the baby becomes you so that you aren't just dead when you are touched, but it's also thought that a person can only be cloned so many times in the game giving you a limit to the amount of lives you have. The monsters themselves can't seem to see you but can see your footsteps like you see theirs making this almost a horror/psychological thriller about escaping an early grave. My assumption is that you won't resist the woman in the trailer for long and you will begin to help her and her cause, and aside from those things you are essentially the courier from new vegas but in a shittier world.

Tough episode for me, I am a Christian. I am educated and hard working. I'm married and I volunteer in my community. I have studied other religions and world views. I lived in Europe for 6 years and I've traveled all over the united states as a military brat. I understand Geoff's frustration with religion too! I would love to have an opportunity to talk with him some day. I hope he doesn't actually think that I'm stupid.

I think the "stupid" ppl are the ones that believe every word in the book (old testament specifically) as reality and not just parables on how to be good person. Admittedly not that knowledgeable on how they frame old testament but if someone didn't say "The Bible" and gave you the synopsis you'd like it some insane fantasy novel.
@grenmastermike
@grenmastermike 6 жыл бұрын
CButtonshaw I appreciate that! I think I probably believe the whole old testement though. I even believe in miracles. There's something to be said, of course, for reading those books in context and not singling out one side of the story, like any History book. I just wanted to say what was on my heart after listening to that podcast. Don't get me wrong though, I'm a long time follower which kinda makes me feel like Geoff and the others are almost like friends. It kinda hurt when Geoff was so critical, and I reached out to try and remedy that.

Miracles are complicated. I believe weird, unexplainable things happen but I don't know if the Noah or Moses things.... hell even the Jesus things happened. Do I think people like Moses and Jesus existed? Sure. Did EVERYTHING happen as stated? Doubtful. I respect the spiritual side of things but you have to admit some ppl go too far and give a bad name to religion by being close minded and awful towards other ppl. It's organization of religion that's the issue not the ppl... well not MOST of them
@grenmastermike
@grenmastermike 6 жыл бұрын
CButtonshaw I think you have a good point about bad people and bad organizations. I think you would agree that religion or no, the purpose of an organization should be to love and help people rather than ostracize and hurt them. Any religion or organization that doesn't at least do that is no bueno in my experience. It's obvious that you and I have different views of the world, for example, but that should make us want to understand and help one another. Care for your fellow (wo)man is the beginning.

The whole "historically accurate" argument, particularly for the battlefield part. It's not that gamers don't want a female protagonist, it's people complaining that 99% of the time; women didn't have combat roles during this time period. (Let alone having the capability of shooting guns with prosthetic arm and beating German soldiers to death with a cricket bat) Dice could have made that character a female fighting for the French Resistance, and I bet you nobody would have batted an eye (because that would've been more realistic than what was presented). Ik a lot of other people feel differently about this topic, but that's just my two cents

@Toneill029
@Toneill029 6 жыл бұрын
Bounty Hunter Bob I think it just evolved from that into the women bashing. And it's not as far fetched as in ww1 major advancement came to the prosthetic industry and technology, some biopic concepts were in place if you read the western front remember when the main character told his legless budy on how he could get a prosthetic that connects to the nerves to move the fingers. Even then simple and possible stuff existed her hand is a series of three hooks just to hold her rifle. Plus it's no different form the call of duty soldier creator where a black woman could fight on the German side, it's not historically accurate but it's multiplayer it's not supposed to be, none of the series is historically or realistically accurate, so there is no reason to be as upset, so logically it's people upset about women player characters and they're hiding behind it, with lame excuses.
@Puckosar
@Puckosar 5 жыл бұрын
@@Toneill029 Really? The only complaints i've ever heard are from people that want more historical accuracy. Never actually seen anyone hate on the women specifically. But yeah BF5 is not trying to be historically accurate, and to my knowledge never claimed to be, so having women infantry is fine.
@Toneill029
@Toneill029 5 жыл бұрын
Puckosar Exactly but I’m pretty sure it is about women for most of the people who bitched were for the most part upset about women being portrayed in the war effort as having an active field role. Guarantee if a guy had that prosthetic had not as many people would bitch about it. The Nordlys level was about a father and son instead of mother and daughter then people wouldn’t have cared that in reality it was a long standing mission of the allies and it took the efforts of tens of Norwegian saboteurs trained by the SOE.

I actually liked Prince of Egypt alot. The plot is pretty good if I'm honest, some of the plot points (other than the whole whether you're religious or not) are pretty easily defended per movie. Like, Ramses is an asshole because they said he's the king of egypt.
@aserta
@aserta 6 жыл бұрын
Except he's not. Since he's the pharaoh of Egypt and his concern is his people. We've already disproved that the concept of slavery in Egypt was bullshit and that the pyramids were built by Egyptian people, skilled, paid, well fed labor force. The book of the bible is nothing more but a curated lore book that's been changed and censored more times than the front page of Reddit.
@erick388
@erick388 6 жыл бұрын
That's not neccesasrily wrong, but it isn't true. Slavery in egypt was a thing, as it was in most of the early civilizations in the middle east. During the later half of the the middle east in olden times, slavery kinda died down (revolts and all that nonsense were alot of trouble). And on the bible being curated lore that's up to the reader to decide. If you wanna read the og and say it's nonsense, be my guest, I won't stop you. If you find it to be true, also be my guest. Religion is as open as it will ever be, simply because religion is something you chose for yourself or ignore completely. Back to the movie though, we're talking about answering the issues plot wise (imagine it's not real for a sec). If Ramses was a total asshat, it's because of a very simple reason. He had been shown (in his own way) the will of his gods (because he had all that he ever wanted and more, a sign of the gods loving you, yada, yada). Compile unto the situation that your distant adopted brother comes back from exile and tells you to let go of your work force (imagine that egypt is still in it's early stages) and you can see that it's the fear of A: A people revolting or B: The lack of said work force would require people to work in said pyramids, or whatever the government said, and they'd have to be paid fairly. All other movie issues can be explained if you simply don't think of it as real. If you wanna explain the real story of Moses, that's up for interpretation as literally every story (including some of Jesus' own stories mind you) are more metaphorical than literal. Good Day Sir XD Edit: And if I'm not mistaken (history wise) the Great Pyramids we're made by locals of the egyptian populace after a flood season where they couldn't work on crops. There is no way to tell that out of the possible hundreds of large or small pyramids lost to the sands that slavery wasn't used.

@erick388 6 жыл бұрын
You only read the first part. He hardened it the first time, and allowed the first few miracles to be shown. The subsequent miracles and times when he was asked, he hardened his own heart without gods' intervention the following times. God, in the Bible, gave way to the first plague, the rest came from the Pharaoh's own choice. Not to mention that each plague was punishment for the suffering the Jews had been given if I'm not mistaken.

I think it’s more of acknowledging our faults and that even the people we hold above us are not as perfect as they seem, Einstein was a genius and revolutionized quantum and atomic science, but his blatantly racist commentary is off putting but it doesn’t destroy what he did and what he stands for today. It just makes us realize that he wasn’t what we made him out to be.

Tim O'Neill there absolutely are agendas in entertainment. All you have to do is look at the changes that are being made to properties that have existed long before any of this nonsense began. Just look at Spider-Man homecoming with it's black Mary Jane (which is absolutely not who that character is meant to be), Solo with it's pansexual Lando (even though pansexuality didn't exist when that character was created), The Last Jedi with it's inclusion of an overly powerful female lead that did nothing to earn her power (unlike every other Jedi in the franchise), and Battlefield V with it's British female soldiers fighting on the front line (which NEVER happened in either the British, or American armed forces during WWII). These are the symptoms of a political correctness movement that is sweeping through every entertainment industry there is. I'll cap off my point by stating that being annoyed at the forced inclusion of every sex/race/sexuality under the sun, is not the same as being a sexist/racist/homophobe.

Ethan Pegouske so, out of everything I said that's the part you wanna focus on? That one small example? This proves that Lando being a pansexual is a recent development of the character, which also proves my point that they did that intentionally to pander to people like you, who focus on unimportant details like that.

The prince of Egypt gave me nightmares as a kid. I’ll never forget the scene where the kids are being taken and killed. That musical scene flashed through my head as kid in the dark it was terrifying rofl

I am incredibly saddened by what people assume Christians stand for. A few "Christian" groups have twisted the Word to keep people down, to treat people badly, just to make themselves feel righteous (when really they're just self-righteous). "Love your neighbor as yourself" seems to be an inconvenient truth for some. It's easy... everyone was created by God, no matter whether they believe it or not, and everyone deserves unconditional love, same as God loves his creation. No matter your beliefs (or non-beliefs), I'll treat you the same. Name any part of the gender or sexuality spectrums, and I guarantee I've got lovely friends all along them. We're not all the same. I'd ask AH to not lump us all together... I don't lump them in with "stereotypical" Texans :)

I'd argue that you probably hold beliefs that are at ends with your religion. For example, according to christianity, nonbelievers will rightfully suffer eternity in hell for the simple fact that they do not believe. I wouldn't say that that is a particularly loving scenario.

Messy Nessie um no whoever murders or is lgbt is not someone who you put with Christians. They can be forgiven Or can be accepted if they change but if they keep there ways it’s against the principles of god

+Penguin124 I would point out that it depends on the branch of Christian belief, some believe that only true sinners will be sentenced to hell whilst the non-believers will be left on earth or in some form of purgatory until they embrace god. Others believe that you're only in hell until you let god into your heart and that's hardly eternity in hell. To these ends his beliefs are not against the beliefs of his religion. But your perspective on Christianity is a very American perspective. Not saying that in a rude manner but your point seems based mainly on the more famous examples and groups, the majority of which are most present in America. Whenever I was growing up I was never taught that you'd suffer in hell for eternity if you didn't follow god, I was taught that god was a loving father but could not help you so long as you did not allow him to help you. Though it must be said I am not Christian and don't often hold Christians in high regard due to the amount of fanatics the religion breeds. But I cannot say they are inherently wrong, as I personally do not know so to each their own.

It's not a "few" or minor renegade groups or sects as you'd like to paint it. To pick one of many examples, the Roman Catholic Church actively shields pedophiles among their priests to the detriment of thousands of innocent children. There have been rumors of abuse for decades, the story broke majorly 20 years ago, and they continue to perpetuate evil to preserve their image. This isn't a small group or a few deviants, it is a global institution that has diverged from the core tenets they claim to profess.
