American music forms: Spirituals, Blues, Ragtime, Jazz, Country, Gospel, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock n Roll, Doo-Wop, Soul, Funk, Disco, Punk, House and of course Rap and Hip Hop---all enjoy well documented Black American roots coupled with undeniable Black American influence---whether directly or indirectly.. Latinos -- puerto ricans particularly -- explain how you co-created or co-invented yet another installment in the legacy of Black Musical expression known as Rap and Hip Hop, yet didn't co-create or co-invent any of the elements of the 14 or so African American music forms that preceeded it? Or why you were nowhere to be found and absent during the creative and inventive foundation outlining the forms of Black American musical expression, brilliance and greatness throughout, or even prior to the previous 14 or so Black American music forms that are mentioned above. Yet then, all of a sudden--out of nowhere, you folks come along and falsely claim latinos and/or puerto ricans co-created and co-invented Rap and Hip Hop 50/50 half n half (which is the evidence-free and utter nonsense being peddled by derrick colon, radical latino, fat joe and numerous other un-informed and envious latinos---claims latinos never mentioned, verbalized or asserted during its inception in the early 1970's)---latinos claims of "50/50--half & half co-creation and co-invention just don't add up---it makes no sense and are increasingly coming under heavy scrutiny which is leading to these claims being easily debunked--as it should've been. Moreover, the heavy hateful and many times racist criticism directed at the Black American youngsters, by the racist white media over having created Rap and Hip Hop, latinos -- particularly puerto ricans -- and jamaicans NEVER came forward to denounce the vicious onslaught, yet 50 years later they want to take credit for this FBA art form that they didn't create.

The Latin tinge that jelly roll Morton describes is an essential part to the formation of swing and bop jazz and ragtime.

@@jxnglxst6874And only Jelly-Roll Morton called it that. Actually, he said "Spanish" tinge and was referring to Afro-Cuban. The generic term "Latino" is a ruse aimed at assigning the achievements of one group of people who speak a modified form of Spanish with others who do so as well. Yet, these groups all have different cultures, ethnicities, r*c*al makeup, traditions, and heritage. They are not one group of people. Nonetheless, Jelly-Roll, a Creole musician, incorporated that sound into *his* music. You are greatly exaggerating its importance as being essential to any FBA musical form. The problem with someone attempting to claim credit for the achievement of someone else is that they have to extremely exaggerate whatever little indication that they can find. One person admitting to some influence does not cover the spectrum of musicians. And, lastly, FBA Buddy Bolden was far more impacting on the FBA Legacy of Jazz than Jelly-Roll Morton.

@@randted Never claimed that the efforts and inspirations of a collective culture were to be assigned to a singular patron. Yet how overlooked are the details we study today? Just like how Stanley Crouch would describe the paintings of Tiziano Vecellio. Listen to some of his discussions there are only few here on KZbin.

@jxnglxst6874 OK, I'll have to look that up. I've seen many interviews featuring Stanley Crouch. And my point was that lumping the many ethnic groups and nationalities that speak a form of Spanish together, as if they're one group called Latino, does not create a singular entity. These people groups are decidedly different beyond the Spanish influence, and many of them object to being categorized with others of them. And, honestly, that's to be expected, naturally. I'm referring to regular everyday people. But an example involving a famous person is how Afro-Cuban, Mario Bauza, did not like the renaming of Afro-Cuban Jazz to Latin Jazz. He is on record and on film rejecting it. That Spanish tinge is of African roots in its origin.

I disagree wholeheartedly with this man's take. Again, let's be weary of people trying to sow division between groups of people. He does not represent the majority of people.
