Fun fact: The reason Wano is separated into "Acts", is because Wano's story structure is set up to follow an old Japanese story telling format known as "Jo-Ha-Kyu". Which is really fitting considering Wano is just a huge homage to Japanese culture.

I wouldn't call it interesting more like the anime butchered the scene. In the manga luffy did one punch to Kaido which confused him a little. But just get up and one-hit Luffy. The anime gave a false hope that luffy is close to equal to Kaido. Which by that time wasn't the case.

Enel would only be untouchable for those who don't know Armament Haki because he had a Logia fruit. Enel would get smacked in the New World by so many people. Garp, the Admirals, Whitebeard, Katakuri. Oda said if Enel was on the Grandline he would have 500 million bounty so that gives some grasp of how tough he was.

On Kaido not killing Luffy: Not killing his enemy captains is a big part of Kaido's crew because instead he insists on breaking their will and recruiting them to serve under him. Very large majority of the Beast Pirates are former pirate crews slapped together to serve under Kaido. So it's not just protagonist powers, this is how Kaido has done things for a long time.

Exactly, plus Luffy was really not in any position to be considered a threat at that point, but a potentially very strong ally, just as Hawkins, Kid, Apoo, or really any member of the worst generation. Kaido's mistake was to underestimate the threat Luffy could potentially become, not necessarily by personal strength alone, but also by the effect he has on the country's people. Luffy is one of, if not the driving force behind this uprising, and Kaido misjudged that. He had the chance to end Luffy right then and there. If he had had a similar moment to Arlong seeing Zoro's wound, the story would have ended there.

Then they completely botched the moment when Kaido put Luffy to bed. In the manga it is quick and brutal, showcasing Kaido speed and how unmatched Luffy was. In the anime they created a clash where Luffy went head to head with Kaido and lost. The anime went for fanservice over faithful adaptation, as they often do.

Okay time to play "Remind Daniel of all the characters he forgot !" : 1. Hawkins is one of the Supernovas from Sabaody with the power to predict the future with his cards ( what is the % chance of X , Y and Z happening ) and the ability to transfer damage to other people with vodoo dolls 2. X-Drake is another Supernovas and former Rear-Admiral ( just 2 steps below Admirals , and don't forget this was pretimeskip ) and he is an Allosaur , not a T-Rex . He "joined" Kaido's crew just before the timeskip . Also he appeared briefly as a kid in Law's flashback 3. Kidd - the other Supernovas who got a lot of focus on Sabaody and Oda said himself that he would be relevant . Anyway Kidd wanted to make an alliance with fellow Supernovas Hawkins and Apoo to take down Shanks but sadly for him Kaido happend to land on his base after he tried to kill himself by jumping off a Sky island . Anyway Kaido beat Kidds ass and threw him in the prison because Kaido likes to break people's wills and make them join his crew

Though, every time I think about Toki I can't help but think about how angry Robin would be that no one ever asked her detailed questions about her life and experiences. Since, up until 20 years ago, she was the only person to have experienced the ENTIRETY of the the time following the void century. Plus how her existence does kind of negate the purpose of the ponyglyphs had anyone bothered to ask her anything. I mean they might have off camera, and it would make sense why they'd need to do so off camera, but it still is rather bothersome. Though, I'm not currently reading the manga, and there might be additional explanation given there that I haven't noticed or become aware of.

Also since she skips forward in time she could have just skipped it while time traveling. Also since the only people she really interacted with where the samurai that live in a closed country that doesn't care about the rest of the world. I'm surprised Daniel didn't recognize the significance of meeting Eustass Kidd in the jail. It was Luffy, Law and Kidd who walked out the Auction House together after Luffy punched a Celestial Dragon. So when Law was reintroduced in Punk Hazard he stuck around for... Well the rest of the series so far. I think Law might have more panel space than some Strawhats. Kidd has been around doing crazy stuff in the backgrounds. He robbed Big Mom's ships during Fishman island, he created a pirate Alliance to take down Shanks, and we saw him run into Kaido after Kaido jumped from a sky island. So Kidd has been a mover and shaker of the One Piece world and on pretty much even level with Law and Luffy. Most likely ending for Kidd is he's going to be a Yonko of the next generation.

Mark didn't just use clips though. He used long uncut segments, actual audio, full scans of manga pages, and filled his entire videos with them while he talked over the ongoing footage. It sucks but his videos getting flagged was... kind of legit. Daniel is much more using them in 5 second chunks briefly inbetween a lot of talking. Closer to "fair use" a its intended. But yeah, maybe play more careful with them in the future.

I believe Oda said that Enel would have a 500 Million Bounty if he was roaming the seas instead of chilling on Skypiea which would put him around Ace Level. He is still fairly strong but probably not as strong as Doflamingo and definitely wouldnt stand a chance against Katakuri.

He doesn't know anything about that threat to him and believe himself as an invincible. Ace known about it. (Well, he wasn't prepared for darkness fruit, but it's much more specific) I can see that his offence is super high (probably higher than Aces, if you look logically at the volt numbers... Oh, and mobility.), but he doesn't have proper preparation (at being informed about important things) and not personally ready for surprises and etc (for example: if he would be a paranoid, he would be much more threat).

I would recommend mainly reading the manga. The anime has gotten better animation, but the pacing is still very slow. The anime also gives different impressions of certain events. An example is Luffy vs Kaido. If the pacing of the anime is too slow, I would recommend reading instead. There are key moments of animation that are better than the manga, but as a whole, the manga is a more consistent experience.

moments of animation that *look* better...I noticed this might not be a popular opinion but I really don't need the whole surrounding in a fight be spectacularly chopped into cubes when in the next scene everything is back to normal because originally it didn't happen. I'm mainly talking about Zoro's next major 1v1 fight, I don't think it needed to be so over the top just to introduce a glaring continuity error and that is really my main problem with the current anime. I don't think it got any better than even Dressrosa in terms of pacing and I wish they would've returned to making filler instead of dragging out everything. And now they even started spoiling stuff early and I can't understand how anyone wouldn't mind that...the anime feels more and more like it's treated as merchandise for the actual story.

About the time travel ability; it's very specifically stated I believe, that It only allows travel to the future, not the past. So I can't immediately think of any paradoxes with its use. Someone correct me if im wrong EDIT: also, I strongly recommend sticking to the manga, and watch only a few select scenes in the anime. Anime pacing is still rather terrible

I'm not sure if you arent remembering or just didnt find it noteworthy, but quite a few of the pirates are the rookies we were introduced to in saboady arc are gathered here. We have Luffy and Zoro and Law of course, who made an alliance. But there was an alliance between Kidd (magnetism guy who Luffy met in Saboady), Hakwins (straw guy), Apoo (guy whos body is musical instruments), and Killer (Kidds right hand man), shown back around the transition chapters from Dressrosa and Zou. In fact, Kaido was first introduced to the reader back then by landing on their base of this alliance and a fight was implied to have broken out. We now see the results of that indirectly. Hawkins is working for Kaido. Kidd is the one in the cell next to Luffy. Apoo's status and Killer's status is unknown (by the end of act 1). X Drake, another rookie from saboady, was said to be working for Kaido now, is t rex man. Sorry i couldn't tell if you didnt remember them or just didn't find worth commenting about, but yeah the person next to luffy isnt random, which is how you seemingly interpreted it, but im sorry if i misunderstood.

Hey Daniel, it seems like you're switching back and forth from manga and anime, which is great. But one criticism of the anime I have is the way they stretch out fights and it hinders how strong some characters really seem. For example in Dressrosa, Luffy destroyed Doflamingo immediately whereas in the anime it was this big pushing match. Just like in Wano it seemed like Luffy was putting up a good fight against Kaido whereas in the manga he got speed blitz one shot and he was out. Sometimes the anime elongates scenes to make them "cooler" but it can kind of mess with the power scaling.

Mark didn't just use clips though. He used long uncut segments, actual audio, full scans of manga pages, and filled his entire videos with them while he talked over the ongoing footage. It sucks but his videos getting flagged was legit. Daniel is much more using them in 5 second chunks briefly inbetween a lot of talking. Closer to "fair use" a its intended.

@@robbybevard8034 sorry man, I don’t wanna start an arguement but what you said is untrue. I’ve seen all of his vids, and according to the law what he’s done is Fair Use. He stitches together short clips which are edited together with no audio and his own voice as commentary. It’s 100% fair use, you see it done with games, movies and anime all the time. The key is that content has to be transformative, and Marks is very transformative. You can’t use any of his videos as a replacement for One Piece, and he never just like plays an episode or any long stretch of one. Also let’s consider that a few of the vids that were claimed have NO Toei content. It’s him drawing characters from their content. Toei abuses KZbins claim system in order to target him and control their content, Japanese media is obsessed with controlling their content. Even if Marks videos help actually grow their content, they still target him. But yeah I’m not trying to argue with you, but I’ve seen these fair use trials a TON of times on KZbin even not in the anime world. I know what Mark did is considered fair use.

@@robbybevard8034 your right in some aspect, but what you said about KZbin respecting their laws is false. How the copyright claim system operates is different, any company can claim pretty much any video they want, and KZbin keeps to themselves. The bad thing is that KZbin just lets the two parties duke it out on their own. You can contest the claim as a creator, telling let’s say Toei as an example that you would like to go to court with them, and most of the time the company never pursues it, and you as the creator get your video reinstated. The downside is this takes forever and is only 1 video at a time, for Mark to get all of his videos back it would take 37 years. So yes- Japan fair use laws are different, but Marks not in Japan, the act of creating and marketing the video takes place entirely outside of Japan. Also, the fact that Toei doesn’t even want to go to court with Mark, they are just using KZbin’s broken system to destroy him is fucked, especially considering that Mark even did promotion for them in the past.

Hey Daniel I know One Piece is a huge story and you haven’t even caught up yet so this idea is probably unfathomable to you rn BUT I think you would really benefit from a slow reread at some point in time. I’m sure all of us in our first read-through were excited to get to the end and end up glazing over a lot of story details in the process of getting there. Going back (even beginning at the time skip) can be really helpful in allowing you to appreciate the thousands of characters and Easter eggs in the story. Also Wano is broken down into acts because it is a reference to Kabuki theatre (an art form popular during the Edo period of Japan which Wano is based on)

Enel's fruit is pretty exceptional though, even if you hit him you still have to be able to take a huge discharge of energy. Plus he has decent observation. He wouldn't be nearly the strongest, but I doubt he'd have such a hard time in the New World.

how I've generally seen zoan forms is that they give a huge boost to durability and destructive power, but remove a lot of manoeuvrability. Usually the hybrid forms (take Rob Lucci for example) are the really scary ones. It's also worth mentioning that kaido wasn't really phased by being 'beaten' out of his zoan form, he was just wasted out of his mind during the fight lol

Pretty good analysis. From what we have seen, eating a mythical zoan automatically offers enhanced durability to the consumer even if they're in base form. Full forms reduce mobility and speed, make you a huge and easy target for the enemies but enhance durability to the fullest degree. Hybrid forms are the most dangerous, ALL your stats are boosted...strength, speed, durability as well as stamina. This applies to most if not all zoans.

the pacing problem in the kaido fight is actually an anime problem, where the studio added a lot of filler attacks that changed not only the flow of the fight but also its purpose. I reccomend watching tha Grandline Review video about the subject. (or just reading chapter 923) Love your videos man

I have no idea why people recommended the wano anime. People got fooled by a different art style + color scheme and some more sakuga moments, but at the end of the day it still sucks in pacing and has mediocre animation for the bulk of it.

Kaido has been recruiting members for his crew in this fashion for 20 yrs now. he takes bold rookis like Luffy, beats them toss them into prison until they break and accept working with him: This is not something he is doing because Luffy=MC is because that's how Kaido operates. Kudos to Oda for giving a plausible in-world explanation for why Luffy wasn't insta killed.

i personally feel like oda did a good job on implementing time travel for a non time travel story. the devil fruit can only send people forwards in time, not backwards. its essentially no different from cryo sleep with an extra teleport mechanic to it.

One thing on why didn't Kaido execute his enemies like when he one shots Luffy. That's not how he runs his pirate crew. He dominates strong opponents, breaks their wills, and then adds them to his Beast Pirates. That's why Luffy was sent to the labor camp and why Kid was already there while Hawkins was working for Kaido. Hawkins submitted, Kid didn't.

A couple of details you might have missed: Basil Hawkins and Eustass Kid (Straw guy and the guy in the prison at the end) are both characters that were already introduced in the Sabaody Arc along with Law. The Time fruit only allows people to travel forward in time, so there's not as many plot holes that can come from that. (Technically forward time travel is something you can do in real life too if you had a space ship)

The reason the Kaido fight was weird is cause I imagine you saw it in the anime. Anime, especially in Wano, will stretch everything out as far as it can, so it made the fight seem a lot more even. In the manga Luffy attacks him a couple times and then is immediately one shot

This arc is divided into arcs because it's written like a traditional Japanese kabuki play. The acts starts with a shamisen player and ends with the same music just like a kabuki play. And kabuki plays have a typical 5 act structure. So the theory is that Wano will have 5 acts. Currently the 3rd act is going on.

10:30 It's not the first time actually. Zoro's Kiki Kyutoryu is based on an Asura(a demon-esque figure in buddhism) and Sanji's Diable Jambe is literally Devil Legs. Chopper's monster point as well and also Brook is literrally undead. Not just these, further down this arc other Strawhats gets demon-esque power ups as well. There's definitely a pattern here. (also ironically, Luffy's is the only one based on a Ni-Oh Statue, a statue of a god, albeit a scary looking one)

Enel was insanely strong for when the Strawhats encountered him, but a good few of the antagonists they’ve faced since skypiea were stronger than him imo. Like Enel’s fruit was very powerful but he was very reliant on it to stop him from taking any damage, so much so that he really struggled as soon as he came up against someone like Luffy who could actually hit him. Since pretty much everyone worth mentioning in the new world can use armament haki to hit people with logia fruits like Enel I don’t think he’d do to well there. Like I don’t think Enel would be able to beat Doflamingo, or any of the high ranking Big Mom pirates, or pretty much any named character who was at Marineford.

It's an interesting question, though, because even though you can hit Enel with armament haki, would you really be able to stop his attacks? Every time you hit him, too, you'd be inviting a massive discharge. Especially with his good grasp of observation. Someone like Katakuri would have no trouble, and Doflamingo, but I think he could take pretty much everyone in the Doflamingo family, or the grand fleet (except the unbeatable Bartolomeo, of course), and I can see him matching Oven and Perospero. If you have no ranged attacks and you've not got crazy endurance, I think he could match or beat a lot of the people we still consider very strong.

I really suggest that you pause for a few weeks and reread a few things like sabaody archipelago. some of the setup have been build up even since back then and it would suck if you did not feel that set up. everything post marineford was building up to this arc so if you don't remember much it will truly feel like any other arc.

It seems like you might have forgot but Kid (guy locked up with Luffy who has magnetism powers), Hawkins (straw voodoo doll guy), and Apoo (piano keyboard teeth guy who has music powers) are all supernovas just like Luffy, Zoro, and Law, we met all of them in Sabaody pre-timeskip. After Dressrosa it was revealed that Kid, Hawkins, and Apoo made an alliance to take down Shanks, but then Kaido, trying to kill himself by jumping off a sky island, dropped into their camp. Hawkins and Apoo are now under Kaido, and Kid is the one in prison with Luffy. Drake (T-Rex guy) is also a supernova who clashed against Kaido's forces pre-timeskip, but it's also shown that he's under them now. Anyway there are currently six out of the eleven supernovas revealed to be in Wano right now, so that's crazy.

Also yeah the fight between Kaido and Luffy was completely different between manga and anime. Generally yes, the anime did improve a lot during this arc, but there's still a lot of padding especially during action scenes. Also, something especially unique here, is that the manga actually intentionally left some gaps for the anime to fill, so there are some anime-only scenes that could be considered canon.

As far as Enel is concerned... He was very dangerous pre-timeskip, yes. That's because no one who went up against him knew Armament Haki, though. Logia Devil Fruit users (in other words, the ones that can freely transform their whole body into an element/substance and manipulate it effortlessly and not get damaged by physical blows, like Enel or Ace or Smoker or Kizaru) were almost impossible to beat pre-timeskip unless you found some loophole in their abilities, but that changed when Haki came into play. Armament Haki is a hard counter to these abilities. Of course, the offensive capabilities of these people are still fearsome, but a Haki user can touch them and wound them just as easily as they could any other person. Their physical immunity completely disappears. So while Enel's lightning attacks would still be dangerous, I think there are a _lot_ of people in the New World who could take him down pretty easily. I don't think Enel knows how to use Armament Haki himself, and he wouldn't know to expect it or how to defend against it; he's really not all that strong compared to most big names we met post-timeskip.

With regards to time travel, the thing that I think saves it is the fact that so far it's only been shown to go *forward* in time. That basically means you can get around basically all the major problems with time travel, as you could effectively replace it with "they got frozen in ice for twenty years cryogenically" and it serves the same purpose.

Some points: Enel could arguably be considered more dangerous than any villain until now for anyone who doesn't use haki, but anyone who does know how to use haki would probably be able to handle him relatively easily... You got the Oden story pretty much spot on, though it is shown and described in more detail later if you are confused by it. Also there is still some mystery around the time travel powers and how exactly they worked, but there are some limitations we know about in terms of stuff we know the fruit can/can't do. Not giving away anything, but trust me, the fake out deaths get so much worse later this arc... I don't know if you experienced the anime first, but the fight between Luffy and Kaido plays out slightly differently than you described in the manga, it's a lot shorter, Luffy doesn't send that many attacks on Kaido before he knocks him out with one hit. Some of the characters you thought are new are actually characters that had shown up in the story before. Hawkins, the T-Rex dude (XDrake) and the guy in the cell next to luffy (Kidd) were all characters who first showed up in sabaody in the pre time skip as rookie pirates who are very famous like luffy at the time. his name is pronounced Ka-ee-do Final point but I would probably not put any anime clips in my video if I were you, just saying this kind of stuff is dangerous when dealing with properties of Toei Animation unfortunately.

Actually I'd the first villain who could take him down is Ceasar. But that's also because of hax. Doflamingo is the first to have an actual proper fight with him and I could see both winning, but I think Doflamingo is more likely to win. And Katakuri already stomps Enel.

Hawkins and Drake (T-Rex Guy [he’s actually and allosaurus]) are 2 supernovas from Sabaody. That’s what makes Kaidos crew so intimidating, it’s a crew of “conquerors” or captains that Kaido has beaten into submission. That’s why he didn’t kill Luffy.

So, little info that i can give: - Logia Types (or elements) like Enel or Ace, are really powerful because nothing can touch them, except for Haki. Yes, he was the most powerful enemy from a perspective, but at the same time i think that Caesar would be the one. (Smoker too, if they didnt run away from him everytime they see him) -The pirate guys that you are mentioning Kidd, Hawkings, X-Drake and Apoo, they were already presented. They are meant to be Supernovas, or people with a high bounty when they reached the Shabondy island. Thats why there wasnt that much presentation of them. -the time travel clausule i totally understand. But Odens wife explains that she can only go forward in time, and cant control how far. So, as much fear as time travel can cause, this power is just kicking a stone down the road. - The fight with Kaido was fucked up in how they animated it. In the manga we ended one chapter with the Luffy punch, and in the next chapters was quickly resolved, without him using the entire arsenal. -Last thing, Odens retainers followed him because they wanted. It wasnt a matter of looking to get out of the island. (And im not gonna say more bc i dont remember if Odens flashback was in act 1 or 2)

Kaido was drunk in his dragon form when Luffy tried to hit him. Luffy’s attack at best only managed to sober Kaido up, thus the one shot KO happened when Kaido turned into his human form

I don’t know if you remember but Hawkins is one of the Supernova’s that was introduced in Sabaody and along with Kidd and Appoo was planning to take Kaido down when he crashed into their meeting from the sky island

Wano is based on Traditional Kabuki Theatre Plays and hence the Act Structure. You can see that music and the curtains drop as a stage play would and that's kinda the theme. These plays have techniques of story telling called Jo-Ha-Kyu. And we can see Oda structured the story with that in his mind. Have a lot of fun and hope you like the animation. The pacing would definitely be off since u have read the manga so far, also filler scenes for padding - but nevertheless One Piece has never looked more stylish so enjoy!

No Spoilers: Oda said Enel would have had a Blue Sea bounty of 500m, the same as Ace at the time of his death and Luffy after Dressrosa. Kaido did not immediately beat Luffy because he was still sobering up. That's why his dragon form wasn't super useful. The time travel is attached to a fruit and is explicitly one direction, so it works more like magical hibernation.

The Wano act structure is based on Jo Ha Kyu. It’s the act structure of a Japanese play style called “Kabuki” basically it’s a slow start the becomes faster as it progresses. Each scene and line within Jo Ha Kyu has its own internal Jo Ha Kyu. Totally not Mark explains this rather well in his own review of Wano Act 1 Tekking 101 also explains this rather well.

To clarify regarding kaido when lufy first met he was drunk and the thing about his devil fruit power the fruits are divided into Paramecia, Logia, and Zoan. Kaido has a zoan fruit to be more specifically a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit and as you can guess the zoan devil fruit is further classified as ancient, Mythical and artificial zoan fruits and the power scaling done for it is as follows Animal/Beast form < Base form (no transformation) < Hybrid Form. Hence lufy was able to disorient kaido because he was drunk and in his beast form also not damaging him indicating how strong he actually is it being his weakest form and him defeating lufy in his normal human form. And also you got it right about the 20 year time jump.

Should also point out, The anime extends the Kaido vs Luffy In the manga Kaido goes back to human form and straight up one shots Luffy at the very start. There is no gear 4th no barrages. Just WHACK
